Yeah, his weapon skills are decent. I gave him a bow, an axe, and a horse and let him loose.

Why can't I garrison any troops at Radoghir? I could in previous versions. Oh, and while I love the fact that there are people in the towns now, they should still let you walk around on your horse, glaring down at the peasants at your feet. Y'know.

    Rohan on
...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

yeah there's a mod called the Stop Being A Princess mod. It's really good, and free too.

So this release is pretty good. Trading still a bit fucked, and fiefs don't really do much, but it's cool. You'd have to play hundreds of hours to be high enough level to really fuck anyone up though.

What does the mod do, and can you link to it, tube?

Why doesn't the tavern keeper offer me any options? I only get "guess I should leave now"... couldn't you buy food and lodging in there previously? (At the starter town, btw.)

Yeah, all the features previously handled by the tavern keeper are handled differently now

Go to a different town and you'll see

Holy crap, that seriously sucks! Why the fuck would he REMOVE features?

Also, I can't find the general trader in the starter town anymore, and there doesn't seem to be any caravan escort jobs either. Where the fuck did all the Privateering go?

Has this game turned from a Pirates! free-roaming game into some sort of war sim? :(

It's just the starter town, you can still buy food and goods at other towns through the Darklands-style menus. The tavern things seem too minor to be considered actual features, and they were more moved around than actually taken out. But yeah, I can't find any quests right now, caravan escort or otherwise. Well, I still have a quest to beat up river pirates, but that's all. My actual liege lord doesn't seem to have anything for me to do.

the starter town is bugged right now. so are quests. if you want to rest at a town, go to any town that's not hostile to you and choose 'wait here'. if you want to recruit troops, you talk to troops at an inn, rather than the inkeeper. the mercs you can hire are much better quality now than the old farmers and peasants you used to be stuck with... Hired Blades are uber, but expensive.

You can still get caravan escort quests by talking to the merchants. Note you have to go to the town center, enter the store and talk to the guy. If you use the menus it takes you right to the sales screen without talking to the merchant. The traders in Zendar are a little wonky, but there's a fan made patch that puts them in their proper spots: http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,26647.0.html

You'd think someone would care if you walked into a town and started hurling hatchets at a guy standing on a roof, but obviously this is not the case.

What's even better is when you talk to a guard and he says "Just mind your manners and we'll have no trouble" or something like that and then you shoot him in the face.

I suppose you could say that, I captured it and the Vaegir king Yaroglek gave it to my as my fief. Managment options are null in this version, which, among other reasons, is why it now needs a patch so very badly. For example, how are allied or enemy armies able to lay siege to a city, but I'm not? And nothing ever comes from these sieges, the cities aren't taken, there are no battles fought... you could argue in favour of cutting off trade and food supplies, but the ultimate goal in besieging anywhere is to capture the place. This doesn't happen yet in this version of Mount & Blade.

I'm half thinking of uninstalling it all and then reinstalling the previous version :/

Cities do get taken, I've seen the king of the Nords take one from the Vaegirs. The name changed colour on the world map, and I could go into the city and use all the shops(my character is a Nord, so I couldn't do that before), but it was flagged as 'under siege' for the rest of time and the Nords never put a garrison of any kind in it.

not only can they get taken, but they can be given to you as fiefs =D my Khergit Khan took Reyvedin (or whatever it is - the Vaegir capital) and gave it to me. it was awesome - 24,000 gold in taxes the first visit, at least 10,000 more each further time I visited it. don't have to worry about money for this game...

I have been offered both cities and castles but haven't taken them. It's enough trouble keeping my border town fief from being raided every weekend as it is. Besides, money isn't really an issue after a point. Once you have reached the top tier of equipment, which doesn't take very long, all you need money for is paying your wages, which are never going to be more than you can get by looting a small villiage.

    .891 was released today.

    http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,26743.0.html
    Hi All,

Version 0.891 which fixes various bugs and problems in the previous version is ready. I want to thank everyone who reported problems and gave feedback about the last version. Without your help, fixing all those problems would be incredibly difficult if not impossible.

I also want to thank all our team members here (Cem, Ozgur, Mustafa and Ipek) who worked very hard on fixing the various problems, Ganbat who sent some new wonderful artwork for this version, and rejenorst who had sent lots of new voice samples to the previous version, and helped the game sound so much better. (Edit: Also many thanks to highelf who helped me sort out the community credits. )

If you have downloaded and installed version 0.890 all you need to do is download and run the patch below (14.85MB):

    http://www.filecloud.com/files/file.php?user_file_id=598636

Otherwise you can get the full installer here (114.3 MB):

    http://www.filecloud.com/files/file.php?user_file_id=598632

I hope you find the new version enjoyable and bug-free.

Edit: Forgot to say that this version is not backward compatible with any-previous version. You'll need to start a new game.

    EDIT 2:
Here are a couple of mirrors of the 14.85MB upgrade patch for people who have 0.890 installed:

.893 is out, and Armagan actually included a changelog this time:
And here is the change-log for version 0.893:

Transition between animations is smoother now.
"Reduce damage to player" option now affects player's horse.
    Archery accuracy has been increased.
Gold gained from looting a village has been reduced.
Number of trees in forests has been reduced.
Terrain not near mountain areas is now less rugged.
Heroes at castles under siege can no longer hire new troops.
Hero parties can no longer be respawned at centers under siege.
    Heroes respawn less frequently.
Fixed bug where a besieged commander accepted to abandon the castle to you, all subsequent castles would yield without fighting.
Horse hitbox is now slightly smaller.
    Horses can have varying hitpoints.
Item modifiers and prices have been re-balanced.
After conquering a castle, you are now presented a menu and can ask for ownership explicitly.
Added "show on map" button to Location Notes.
Fixed bug where couched lance damage was delivered when it should not.
Bug fixed where you could bump into an invisible dead horse.
Some problems with archer and horse archer AI fixed.
AI battle tactics have been re-enabled.
    Miscellaneous other small fixes.

And of course you have to start a new game.

There also appears to be a bug with the new "AI battle tactics" thing whereby the AI just stands there in formation and lets you slaughter them indiscriminately.

This happened to me in .890.

'twas, at the time, quite the saving grace, as an enormous war party was headed for my village, and I only had a few men to defend.
