Question if I pre-buy to play the beta: Can I play it on another computer? Because I just bought a laptop but won't be able to get it connected to the internet for a while, so I was wondering if I could just buy it on my PC now and play it on my laptop later?
You can load your Steam games/account on any computer you feel like it. You can only play it on one at a time (so you can't have 5 friends log in with your account to play together) but you can install it anywhere.
Is there any rhyme or reason to getting critical hits with the heavy? Sometimes I get completely unfair strings of crits, but sometimes I just can't get any...
Critical hits are based on momentum. Live long and rack up a load of kill or assist points. I believe healing and teleport points also work towards your critical hit rate, though it would be a bitch to reliably test. If you perform particularly well, you are rewarded with more common critical hits.
So crits aren't entirely random? My god, this mechanic just went from cool to the most fucking awesome thing ever.
I like playing Sniper. CSS AWPing has made sniping in TF2 a breeze.
Sniping in this game feels completely different from CSS to me. I move soooo sloooowwwwlllyyy.
I really like the dot that tf has always added to snipers I think all games should have that so there is some kind of tell, ive never had much problems with snipers myself though. I'm one of those people who plays a scout and goes running across the top of the bridge on two fort double jumping like mad.

Oh TF2, how you make my math homework suffer!
They haven't really explained the exact mechanics except to say that it's about your "momentum". So people on a spree are more likely to get some criticals in. Happened to me when I was a heavy and waded into combat and took a couple of people. Medic then ubercharged me and I got my critical streak in at the same moment. Following which the entire enemy team in that area suffered from acute lead poisoning in the space of maybe 5 seconds.

Well, I saw one guy on a public server today get kicked for his steam account logging in somewhere else, so I assume yes.
You're Steam account goes with you, so you can login anywhere.
However, you can't be logged in at two places at the same time.
someone explain to me why TF2 is stuttery on all low settings when other source game are run on all high with no problem
I basically have the same computer and have some stuttery only for the first min or 2 of the map, that or I stop noticing it cause i am having to much fun. And I have the setting all to high too. But I believe it is my hard drive that causing the problems, since I have the newest Video drivers.
It was awesome last night teaming up with other engineers. We lost that one sudden death, but the other team couldn't crack our sentry gun nest of doom!

Man, I am getting sick of being a medic. I always join a game and it turns out they don't have any, so I play one and run around healing people, and I stay alive a long time get a few kills in with the needle gun (bonesaw not so much because it's not as useful a panic button when I need to get a pyro before he gets to me, and therefore I never have it mapped to Q and it takes forever to scroll to). But I am getting so goddamn sick of holding down the left mouse button constantly and I just want to kill something.
The sigs will be back up in a few hours guys. Don't fret. I just have to figure out why my bandwidth is getting so hammered with them.
I can't get mine to work wtfmate
as in set it up (been tryin for a few days)
It's off right now. I'll post when they're back up. I changed the password for a bit. I'll put it back to wang and announce so when they go back online.
Adapt your class to what you team most needs, a demoman if you are overwhelmed with turrets, a pyro if you're being raped by spies, or a heavy if there are like 5 medics on your team circlejerking

Do what I do: Bitch and complain to your teammates that they suck and the only reason their parents had them was because they were a mistake... and they were drunk. Also tell one of them to become a medic and heal you because you're "going heavy and dem bitchz gunna recognize."
Wow the Steam Community TF2 forums are a scary place. A guy wrote a "final review" of the beta, (he played the game for 7 hours) and it was basically the same old shit die hard TFC fans who hate change come up with. No grenades sucks, SGs suck, melee is to powerful, everything is to slow, and I hate respawn timers.
I was surprised at how many people agreed with him completely. Is this the only place where just about everyone likes TF2 despite perhaps a few balance tweeks that it could use?

Yeah, if our team already has three medics, I'm the first to switch to something more useful.
I believe that a team needs a well-balanced class makeup, and thus will also play Medic if the team has one or none.
I find myself having to play Engineer a lot when my team is on offense, because people are all "durr durr, engies are only good for turret defense"
Teleporter + Refueling Station at a well hidden point makes an offensive so much more effective. Playing Engi really makes me appreciate how tough Spys can be, because as a demoman we pretty much never run into each other.
My strategy as Heavy involves both never stopping shooting and always shooting. Basically, when in doubt, shoot. When not in doubt, shoot. Also, yelling does help. Along with shooting.

"They took out bunny hopping and grenades and I can't conc jump and now the game lacks skill and Valve is catering to noobs and console players with this shallow gameplay!"

It's my experience that this is how the "hardcore" fps game community behaves. The official Halo forums are exactly the same.
new drivers and lower settings later, and I still stutter.
Is this a constant stuttering or an occasional one? Once in every 3 or so hours I'll run into some stuttering that lasts for about a minute then dies off inexplicably. I just kinda clench my teeth and hope some bitchass spy or scout doesn't run into me at these inopportune moments of weakness until it goes away.
I haven't tried anything else, to be honest, but it does go away in my case.

your strategy is sound, except when I do that I run out of ammo in 20 seconds

I feel the same way about being an engineer. I get sick of babysitting my stuff and just want to kill something. (So usually I switch and kill something)
Hey, spies: a red guy with blue teleporter sparks ain't very subtle.
Also, three engineers bunched up in a corner with turrets and dispensers, and 2-3 spies trying to take them out. And then me as a pyro flaming everything coming in.
My strategy as Heavy involves both never stopping shooting and always shooting. Basically, when in doubt, shoot. When not in doubt, shoot. Also, yelling does help. Along with shooting.
Your ideas intrigue me and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Step 1. Complain over voicechat that the HWGuy lacks ammoz by yelling "NO MORE AMMOZ!" in a burly bigman russian accent.

Yeah, they are. And its amazing how little understanding of the game some people have. Like the "pyro is slower than a soldier" comments. WTF? He's actually middle of the pack, much faster than the soldier, and only a little slower than the engineer or sniper.

I mean, the hardcore people have been playing the game, for what, 8 years? And suddenly new people can beat them. Of course they don't think, hey, new game, new rules, gotta adapt, gotta learn, gotta re-master.
They go, I'm a pro, noobs are beating me, game favors noobs, game sucks! RAR!

on TF2 everyhting is on low, and it still stutters quite a bit
must be a BETA problem but jeeze
updating my drivers...

TF2 is a much newer version of the Source engine than HL2-based games. In your case it's probably a beta compatibility thing though.
