Somewhat inspired by all of those "Let's Play" threads on this site i decided to start my own. Of course it had to be something special conidering its ME doing it.
So, let's play...
Thats right folks, i pulled a real diamond here. It is of course an old game, still one of the best and most creative there is. Considering its MY thread there will of course be the usual amount of violence and blood.
It recived a lot bad press at the time of its release. PROBABLY because its violence levels. That was way before any age limitations bothered computer games. Considering the only time i remember somebody actually playing it giving it a bad reputation was as disk three gave up its existence after an two-and-a-half hour multiplayer match, wich is a sad but understandable reaction - quickly folled up by a smashed stick i might add.
So i will sort this out here and now for once and ever.
Prepare for being moonstoned...
Thats right... Moonstone can be played in multiplayer (up to four players) - rising the already excellent game to legendary status easily.
The mechanics of the game is pretty straightforward:
The druids call upon the best knights of the realm to aid them in the quest for the moonstone. Whoever obtains the moonstone wins the game and will be ascending t godhood (in a nice grapical endsequence of course). The stone is hidden in the valley of gods only accesible by four keys hidden somewhere on the game map. There are only four keys.
So we got to get he keys, easy, ain't it? Not quite. First there are only four and players will sooner or later compeding for it (stealing IS a part of this game). Secondly the valley has of course a guardian. And there is a dragon ALSO stealing keys (by mutilating players), in most cases SOMEBODY HAS TO SLAY THE DRAGON to get the key(s) back.
The world is dangerous, everybody tries to kill you so the druids gave you multiple incarnations (lifes). If you run out of lives you lost the game. Its possible to get an additional incarnation by fisiting their (stonehenge like) temple in the forest area giving them a magic item. You lives will INSTANTLY increased to three when visiting your home town (each knight starts in one corner of the map - in that corner is your respective home town).
There is a world map on wich each player moves during his/her turn, fights being resolved in glorious gory action sequences.
And... oh yes... each knight not commanded by a player will become a dark knight hunting you *g*
Enough of the chit-chat... lets pick a knight and get real.
After Knight selection we end up on the world map and its our turn to move. Naturally we journey to the closest lair (bottom right corner, the little house symbols are the monster lairs... yes quite a few places to search^^).
And we meet...
...a fucking troll. Prime draw. My usual jinxed up luck i guess. The outcome is not really surprising and ONE LIFE less *g*
And as i am playing solo atm of course a black knight takes advantage of the situation...
...the outcome is quite surprising but not really satisfying.
Being a little desillusioned about my fighting skills and having lost two lifes in the first turn already i decide to visit the city of waterdeep just north of my current location and call it quits for the time being (the locations on the map are NOT just eye candy, there are lots of special locations).
However i can not afford any equipment with the few gold coins i have at this time. To avoid making it a complete loss of time i visit the tavern and participate in some dice game (and probably loose the few gold coins i have).
But whoooooAAA! A stroke of luck! I win ONE HUNDERED GOLD COINS. I realize once again being afflicted to jinxed luck has also its bright sides. Of yourse i imedantely equip myself with the best armor and weapons this little town has to offfer.
You can see here also the stats and XP counter... yes... the game uses attributes...
Having such shiny new toys i decide to take my revenge upon the evil troll... and his girlfriend... probably... i don't really wanna know ^^
Having my revenge and it being late and all - even if this was only a tiny fragment of what the game has to offer... i take a break here.
