Project Origin: Little Miss Bloodshine

The new trailer for Project Origin (aka FEAR 2) is out!

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25251.html

Graphics look shiny, guns look helluva lot more solid (was that a P90 you were holding near the end?) and there is some kind of new creature tearing your face off.

Also: http://www.nameyourfear.com/

For anyone who wanted to see what the devs had to reject before they got to Project Origin

    That looks fucking awesome.

Looks like you'll able to kick over any object to provide cover as well. Honestly, that makes everything I've seen about Halo 3 look like a child's toy.

So, will the F.E.A.R expansion pack be considered non-canon in this game?

Looks kinda neat, but what's with this kicking stuff over for cover thing? I get the concept, but the first time he kicks something over it looks like he was actually making his cover lower than it had been. Near the end when the soldier throws the cabinet down, that makes more sense; it wasn't in the hall and then he flopped it over so that it was. Hope there's more of that and less of the other.

I can't wait for more ballistic gun action and kicking people in the head in sllllooooowwww moooooo.

Really it looks pretty much exactly like FEAR, only with higher res graphics. I don't mind that too much though. FEAR got ballistic combat down really well, and is probably the only game I would consider to have awesome ragdoll physics. It's always been satisfying in that game to pull around a corner and blast them with a shotgun, watching them flying backwards, hitting the wall and collapsing in a heap.

I just really hope they give us more varied environments than the first game. Offices and hospitals are OK but we really need some variety this time around.

I loved trip mines. Always used to use them to cover my flank / rear when advancing on the enemy, then you'd here the telltale
    *Whoosh* *BOOOM*
    "POOP!" (paraphrasing).

Also fun is setting up a remote bomb somewhere and getting them to check out the area (shoot or use the flashlight).

Best bit was the fact that you could deactivate them and pick them back up again if you never ended up using them

    Ambushes were fun.

How are they going to market this game? Can they say it is the sequel to F.E.A.R in the ads? Isn't there another game with the F.E.A.R name coming out?

Basically Monolith owns everything to do with FEAR (characters, story etc.) except for the actual name. The name belongs to the publisher Vivendi. So Vivendi are having some other studio (Timegate? Day 1?) make a game called F.E.A.R. 2, only it's not going to have anything to do with the characters or plot of the original IIRC.

Monolith developed the original FEAR but Vivendi own the rights to the name FEAR. Monolith decided to call the sequel by a different name while having it remain a follow up to the original. Expansions and ports were made of FEAR by other developers.

Ok, so Project Origin is connected to F.E.A.R. story-wise (prequel?) and can have the same characters and such.

F.E.A.R. 2 has nothing to do with F.E.A.R. as far as story is concerned, and is made by a different dev.

The two expansions for F.E.A.R. (Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate) were made by Timegatem, and are concidered to be non-canon for F.E.A.R. (and so I assume Project Origin)

Are Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate going to be canon with F.E.A.R. 2? or do we not know

Basically I have not played F.E.A.R., but my housemate is lending it to me shortly, and I want to know the score before I get invested in it.

Hard to say. They haven't mentioned anything about it. I'd guess at no.
Basically I have not played F.E.A.R., but my housemate is lending it to me shortly, and I want to know the score before I get invested in it.

"Extreme" Difficulty FTW. Or easy if you just want to run up to people and Kung Fu them all game long. Difficulty level doesn't affect the AI, just how much damage they deal, how accurate they are and how much health they have. Health doesn't expand much, but accuracy does a LOT, and weapon damage becomes or surpasses your own.

Having played the Addon Pack, I did honestly feel that had some better ballistic action in it than the original, but YMMV. The plot was a bit weird though, and didn't really focus on anything.

With regards to the game itself, did anyone else
Find adult Alma frigging creepy? I mean, I was relatively well adjusted to child Alma, but naked bloody vengeful ANGRY Alma really creeped me out.

If you're talking about the Addon pack (Extraction point), what basically happens is that you see Alma in both forms throughout, and apparently Fettel is still alive for some reason.

    End Spoiler
Over the course of the game it appears as if young Alma is actually protecting you, whilst Adult Alma is out to try and kill you. Speculation is pretty much that Alma is suffering from some form of split personality as a result of all the trauma she's been through. This is largely supported by the ending as well.

Near the end of the game you receive one last vision where Young Alma and adult Alma fuse together to become whole again. What this means for everyone else is unkown.

If you're referring to the new game from Monolith, none of what happened in the addon pack is cannon, so who knows. I would have thought it'd be adult Alma given the ending of the first game, but it's clearly young Alma in the trailer. Unless that's supposed to be some projection of herself where Adult Alma was her actual physical form or something.

As for the new game from Vivendi, that's pretty much anyone's guess.

The new addon pack from Vivendi is going to be tracking a different character through the action that unfolded during the course of FEAR.
