alright, i have a problem. well you see, whenever i play an fps game for more than 30 mins i start to get motion sickness. like, REALLY bad motion sickness, like, gotta lay down for 2 hrs before i get my head together again type of sickness (ive thrown up playing doom 2 a long time ago). so basically, ive stayed away from them, even though ive been heavily tempted to play them. but then recently, i picked up star wars battlefront 2, a how you would say, a third person shooter. i didn't get sick at all. best of all, i was having goddamn fun. i recently gave gears of war a try at a friends house to test a hypothesis, and again, i didnt get sick this time. ah yeah, then i tried counterstrike wondering hey, mebbe i grew out of it. eh, that didnt work out so well so, anyone got any good PC third person shooters they could recommend me, or some fps games with ability to change to third person perspective? preferably with lotsa multiplayer and online....

How is the PC version of Freedom Fighters?
Stranglehold is decent but I'd HIGHLY recommend two very important and awesome third-person shooters to you:
- Max Payne
- Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne

Rouge trooper, GTA3 to San andreas, freedom fighters or whatever it was called, max paynes, Psi ops could be worth a shot as well and I'm out of ideas.
and should be dirt cheap by now (i picked it up for £5 over a year ago). It is over really quickly, but is more than enough fun to play over and over again, and the story/atmosphere more than make up for it, anyway.
Coincidentally made by the same guys who made

.... and lonely :winky:
But yeah, Max Payne 2. Also try the "Cinema 2.0" mod, that jacked up the fun for me quite a bit. Nothing like Dual Wielding MP5K's.
Plus points in that it's unreal Engine 3 and being brought to us by Epic, so it ought to be a good port. Cliffie B said that since it was originally made witha controller in mind that's probably still the best way to play it, but it's still easily playable on KBAM. Plus it comes with an extra 5 chapters and some new multiplayer maps.
When it comes out, I may need one of you peeps to go co-op with me, you hear?
It's really good stuff.
Only if you've got a joypad. 360 works.
After that you can mod it with hi-res textures and stuff to make it look awesome.

I'm curious whether switching back and forth might make your motion sickness worse or better. Because you can 'reflect' projectiles when in melee mode, you end up doing most of your movement and walljumping in 3rd person. It's also (other than Gears) the only really 'hardcore' shooter that seems designed around the idea that you're spending most of your time in 3rd person.
Not a game that'll bowl you over with its graphics, but there's still a surprising number of people playing it on XBL for a game that came out in 2004.
I'm excited for UTWhatever on next gen consoles, but I get the feeling it'll be more porty (and 1st-persony) than the Championship series. I hope they keep it going, because it's a unique flavor of deathmatch that I really took a liking to.

yep, some great narative too.
I came into this thread with the intent of bringing up MDK. You make me proud, Darmak.
I didn't play the sequel though.
MDK was a pretty rad game for its time. It had ridiculous amounts of benchmark tests you could run with it. The best part was ALWAYS dropping into each stage, avoiding the detection light and missiles. The ending was rather nonsensical.
Yeah, but the music video was awesomely cheesy
Ugh, I couldn't even watch half of that. It's cheesy alright, whether it's awesome or not is up for grabs. :P
I remember how the driving reason why I had to get MDK was because of Shiny. Earthworm Jim left a lasting impression on me enough to think, "Shiny Entertainment? They cannot go wrong!"
It would have been awesome, I shit you not.

Everyone should play this game.
Also, for you guys who liked MDK but never played the sequel - you NEED to play the sequel. It is pretty incredible, and also hilarious. The only thing is that, instead of playing just as Kurt, you also play as Max and Doc, switching between them on every new level. If you liked only playing as Kurt in MDK, you might be disappointed to hear that Kurt only plays in about a third of the game. That said, Max and Doc's levels are still pretty awesome. Max's levels consist of pure action gameplay as he quad wields his weapons (that's right, four at once), and Doc's levels are more about solving puzzles and adventuring.
Seriously, you guys need to play it. I personally thought it was better than the original in every way, but that's just me.

This game was pretty great, but it wasn't very memorable
I lost my copy and it made me quite sad though

It was also BioWare's second game and their last action game before they moved on to RPGs and have stayed there for almost a decade.
I think that's interesting, anyway.
