Seconding Max Payne 2. One of my favourite shooters ever.
and should be dirt cheap by now (i picked it up for £5 over a year ago). It is over really quickly, but is more than enough fun to play over and over again, and the story/atmosphere more than make up for it, anyway.
I've played through it many, many times. I made my own goals and restrictions, like pistols only, no bullet time allowed, etc.
I love me some 3rd person shooters, when they are good, they are more fun than first person, imo.
Gears of War is even shorter than Max Payne 2, but its another great game. I hate the unskippable radio parts though.
I really enjoyed Second Sight, despite it being mostly ignored by everyone else.
yep, some great narative too.
A great choice. You can probably get it for $10 at any place that has it now. I loved it on the PS2.
Also, if you want a more modern game, try Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 and/or 2.. I hear they're pretty good, although not as good as Rainbow Six Vegas. Rainbow Six is a first person shooter with third person shooting segments (leaning against a wall, for instance), but I wouldn't try it if the problem is as bad as you say it is.
Also, I highly recommend James Bond: Everything or Nothing.
Kill.Switch is an okay game from what I've seen. If you really, really want some third-person shooters, I'd look into it. It has to be cheap by now.

No, no, no. The OP says PC third-person shooters.
The PC versions of the GRAW games are not only first-person, but insanely difficult. Probably a very, very bad choice for someone that can't even play FPSs.

I got a copy of it last week for $5 at GameStop and it was definitely worth the $5.
Now I need a copy of Max Payne 2 more than I need food or air
And there isn't a GameStop in this city

...when it's released.
The odd thing about Freedom Fighters is that the console version that splitscreen multiplayer, while the PC version didn't have any at all.
