Blood Bowl for EVERYTHING - Because regular balls aren't spiky enough

Blood Bowl is the video game adaptation of Games Workshop's famous board game of the same name.

In development by Cyanide, the French studio who recently game us the RPG/action game “Loki” (a N°1 PC sales title in France and Germany), Blood Bowl is a game that is played out in the richly developed Warhammer fantasy universe.

Humans, elves, trolls, orcs and many other fantasy creatures face each other as they play this sport of extreme - a Fantasy Football game inspired by American Football.

Blood Bowl is a game with solid rules and all the characteristics of a ball game (passes, tackling, fumbles, touchdowns...) that provides an opportunity for real on-field strategy and tactics. Blood Bowl players are strongly affected by elements exterior to the game such as 'dirty trick' special plays, corrupt referees, and the use of spells and weapons – all of which take everyone very far away from traditional sports simulation games – much to the absolute joy of the players!

Blood Bowl can be played in real time like many other strategy games, but it can also be played turn-by-turn, which will surely delight fans of the tabletop game. The real time game is spectacular - intense battles between blocking linemen, daring displays of agility, powerful spells unleashed across the pitch and bone-crunching brutal tackles create an action-packed atmosphere. In the turn-by-turn version, the rules of the tabletop game are followed to the letter, so players who know the tabletop game will find themselves familiar with all the moves and possible strategies.

In solo play, Blood Bowl offers the player a solid campaign and a team to lead through a complete and intense Blood Bowl season – a team who will evolve according to their triumphs, their experience gained and the items won. In multiplayer, Blood Bowl coaches will be able to upgrade their best team in the white-hot online arenas and fight their way up to the top position in the official ranking.

Some screenshots, spoliered for kind-of-bigness.

Oh man. OH MAN. Yes! We must make a PA league for this when it comes out. Hopefully they have the full array of teams and characters, complete with goblins with chainsaws and other assorted tomfoolery.

Nice, a video game for a currently (pretty much)unsupported board game thats awesome.

Hopefully this mean the possibility we'll see a Gorkamorka or Necromunda game some day.

    Awesome.

I was thinking of how cool a BB Wii game would be a few weeks ago. Namely chainsawing somebody in the face with a wiimote.

There was already a game rather similar to Blood Bowl and as I recall it was ok.

I do want to jump up and down and cry awesome for this too though, I've been wanting to try Blood Bowl but never got round to buying anything to start and now I dont need to!

And yes most of the now "Specialist Games" would make awesome video games.

I guess it's video game industry tradition to base products off of GW's work. Blood Bowl was first released as a board game in '86.

But yeah, similar in concept to Mutant League, but an offshoot of the Warhammer world, so you get skaven, right proper orcs, and beastmen.

It's about time. And there better be blood, and a lot of it. I only played the board game a few times, but the whole time I did play all I saw was blood. Everywhere.

And a Necromunda game would be quite cool, especially if it was run on some sort of dedicated server that kept track of things.

Never got to play Blood Bowl (always played regular 40k), but man I'm so down for this. I wish Games Workshop would hurry up and license all their games out already. I think we've reached a point where a developer could make an Epic-level FPS game. I don't know why they haven't made a 40K FPS game for PC yet . How awesome would it be to have some squad-level battlefield action and then a giant titan comes lumbering over the horizon. Epic I tell you.

The guys who made Chaos_League are the ones whom are now making Blood Bowl. Anyone know how Chaos League turned out? It was popular enough to spawn an expansion, so it has some faint hope going for it.

Also, apparently their rip-off was good enough to make GW decide to let them make the real thing.

Man, what? The first one was the bee's knees, but the second sucked. Nice to look at, but in all the missions with Genestealers, I could just walk around and clobber them to death with your power fist. And then I got to the Chaos Marine missions and could never figure out how to kill them; sometimes just one would be enough to use its cute little bolter to mow down all 5 of my Terminators. Aside from the awesome Genestealer close combat animation, what was good about the game at all?

It didn't have the tactical intensity of the first (the "oh shit don't let them get behind you" part); you're right, you could get good enough with the power fist by the end to let your squad die and still carve through 'Stealers. What it had, though, was atmosphere. Because you only had control your own character, not the rest of the squad, I found it a lot more immersive. You'd hear gunfire a coridor away, then a scream, then silence... those tense moments of spinning about, waiting for Genestealers to leap out were pretty awesome.

    I liked it.

No, if I'm remembering correctly they tend to yell out praises to the Emperor, or just shout in rage.

Think Conan (who yelled a lot when hacking people up or getting stabbed), not the Skywalker clan ("Nooo" and "That's impossible").

At the highest difficulty, I was punching out their lights from the first mission right up to the Chaos Marines. I remember doing an experiment as to how to actually die to the 'Stealers, and it was hard. There's a huge window for pressing the attack button and winning the fight.

The publisher, Focus Home Interactive, doesn't look like they've ever published a console game before. Also, they're in Europe, which I think all the console manufacturers hate.

Apparently they had another game, Chaos League, which sounds kind of similar, but I've never heard of it before.
