To tell me about the midnight opening for Halo 3. It said I had to get there at NINE PM in order to get a copy at midnight. I have to work that night anyway, but it's not worth it to me to go chill at Gamestop for THREE HOURS just go get Halo 3 at midnight. I mean, I CAN just go pick up my pre-order on Tuesday during the day, right? That's all I want to know.

The process of preorder pick ups will vary from store to store depending on the amount of customers show up at any particular store. You don't have to be there at 9.

Microsoft is printing approximately 47 kajillion of these, since they know it'll sell and they like money.
If for some bizarre-ass reason you have a Gamestop reserve and you don't get it, just wander into Best Buy, Fry's, Wal-Mart, your local shoe shine shop, etc. and they'll have like 50. At least. Then wander into Gamestop and ask for your money back.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think I pre ordered LostMagic a while back and forgot to pick it up. No copies left, and I had to get store credit. Maybe they just insisted on store credit or something. I dunno. Maybe I didn't even ask for a refund or something.

My guess is that Gamestop really doesn't want to get stuck with 300 extra copies.
Yeah, I'm wandering in to Superstore (think Canadian Wal-Mart) and expecting to walk out with a copy. I preordered and line-stood for Halo 2 SE and it really wasn't worth my time or my extra money.

I see your point and agree to an extent. But you have to realize these places are going out of their way to accommodate US. One story I heard was a coffee shop being asked to stay open near a gamestop that was doing a halo 3 launch. The wanted to because they knew it would mean business. I'm not a fan of them but midnight launches for big titles and consoles is standard now. "Corperate cog" eh, maybe but people willingly get in line for it. It isn't like "get in line OR ELSE!"

You're paying them money to get an extra few hours to whore out shit you don't need when you're likely tired, possibly already spending quite a bit of money, and overall not in your best judgment.
How are we paying them anymore money? I don't know of very many people that will spend that much more besides the 1 thing they want. I was there for a Wii launch as a cashier. We didn't let them go anywhere else in the store. And best judgment? what kind of point is that?
Everyone who has any right to be in G&T has spent money and time on shit they don't need. This isn't any different.
Heck, I pre-ordered it well over a year ago - I just found my pre-order receipt and it was back right after E3 last year; I put money down on my Gears LE also.

I still see so called "limited edition" games in stores all the time. FFXII, Gears of War, Prey, shit even the Halo 2 one is still out there. They may as well dump that marketing speak and just call them the "+$10" edition.
I'm still on the fence on whether or not to get the regular or special edition. On the one hand, I am a sucker for metal tins and bonus material. But fuck... it comes to 91 (ninety one! dollars over here. The reports of the discs being minced in the case aren't helping either. I'm really getting sick of the standard $69.99 price for a game this generation. It's really doing nothing but forcing me to either rent or only buy the big name games. At least Nintendo has kept it down to 59.99, but that's not that much better.
Other fun canadian pricing hijinks. The new Halo 3 themed controllers and headset here are also priced exactly the same as the regular edition game. Dunno if that's the same as in the states though.

If you've seen the inside of the game case you'd be more apt to believe me. They came up with literally the cheapest possible method I can ever think of to keep two disks in one case. I can't believe they wouldn't fork over the couple of extra cents it would cost to do the clip in insert from last gen.
