To tell me about the midnight opening for Halo 3. It said I had to get there at NINE PM in order to get a copy at midnight. I have to work that night anyway, but it's not worth it to me to go chill at Gamestop for THREE HOURS just go get Halo 3 at midnight. I mean, I CAN just go pick up my pre-order on Tuesday during the day, right? That's all I want to know.
This is only because they hand out little tickets or something with numbers so you can sit in your car or do something in the area. You have to be there at 9 so they can hand them out before they close.
Just a FYI for people in this situation: Even if your store normally holds games forever for you, if you don't plan on picking up your reserve within 48 hours of release, you may want to have a chat with your store. According to my manager, corporate is breathing down our necks for quick sell-through of Halo 3...so after 48 hours, we are probably going to get pressured to either resolve remaining pre-orders or put them up for grabs.

Anyone that is anywhere near Gamestop Monday night is kind of a tool. Dedicated, yes, but still just a willing cog in the corporate machine.
I just posted this in the Halo 3 thread but I figured you guys would be interested to know this too. Apparently the packaging for the Collector's edition is really shitty, and a good number of the disks are loose and scratched to all hell. You may want to consider changing down to the regular edition of the game.

I'm not too sure there's any corporate entity I hate more than GameStop. Over the past few days, the fuckers have been calling me constantly about Halo 3. As soon as I hear the bitch say "Hi", the phone gets hung up.
Oh no, you corporate cocks! The notion of having Halo 3 on the shelves for more than 48 hours is positively fucking unthinkable!

You know, that's funny. I started to post a thread titled "I'm going to strangle Aeris" for this same thing a few hours ago but deleted it. Why they felt the need to call me twice and communicate the same horseshit TWICE is beyond me but that's par for the course with those moneygrubbing fucking pieces of corporate dogshit.

Why?
They scared they'll get stuck with some extra copies or something?

With the stories I've heard, I wouldn't trust GameStop to hold Halo 3 for me for 48 hours if I were getting it. Hell, after what happened with Mega Man ZX, I'd almost be happy for the calls.

Of all the things to complain about concerning american corporate capitalism, this is frankly small potatoes. And if it really bothers you that much, go with another company.
Are you getting one of those super-duper ultra-overpriced "Bust of Master Chief" editions or something? If not, I really, really, really wouldn't worry. Something tells me that Microsoft is only going to ship about a gazillion copies of the game, and even in the worst case scenario, if they screw you over with your preorder, you can always get a refund on your presell ticket and just walk into Best the next day.
Microsoft is printing approximately 47 kajillion of these, since they know it'll sell and they like money.
If for some bizarre-ass reason you have a Gamestop reserve and you don't get it, just wander into Best Buy, Fry's, Wal-Mart, your local shoe shine shop, etc. and they'll have like 50. At least. Then wander into Gamestop and ask for your money back.

Can you even do that?
My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think I pre ordered LostMagic a while back and forgot to pick it up. No copies left, and I had to get store credit. Maybe they just insisted on store credit or something. I dunno. Maybe I didn't even ask for a refund or something.
Fuzzy fuzzy. Such a mediocre game to even remember.

I've refunded presells before, even after the sell-by date. If you have a store with assholes in it, just give them a cock-and-bull story about someone else buying it for you as a gift.
I'd be really surprised if you can't walk into most stores and walk out with a copy of Halo 3 on day one. The biggest game sellers like Halo 2, GTA:SA, GTA:VC, etc. were pretty much in plentiful supply everywhere day one.
My guess is that Gamestop really doesn't want to get stuck with 300 extra copies.

Yeah, I'm wandering in to Superstore (think Canadian Wal-Mart) and expecting to walk out with a copy. I preordered and line-stood for Halo 2 SE and it really wasn't worth my time or my extra money.

I see your point and agree to an extent. But you have to realize these places are going out of their way to accommodate US. One story I heard was a coffee shop being asked to stay open near a gamestop that was doing a halo 3 launch. The wanted to because they knew it would mean business. I'm not a fan of them but midnight launches for big titles and consoles is standard now. "Corperate cog" eh, maybe but people willingly get in line for it. It isn't like "get in line OR ELSE!"

Ok, I preordered the Legendary, and then went down to the Limited, and then I wanted to go back to Legendary yesterday but it was apparently too late to change my order. Do you think they will have extra Legendary editions by any chance at midnight for some reason? I want to be a sucker and get a corny little replica helmet.

You're paying them money to get an extra few hours to whore out shit you don't need when you're likely tired, possibly already spending quite a bit of money, and overall not in your best judgment.

How are we paying them anymore money? I don't know of very many people that will spend that much more besides the 1 thing they want. I was there for a Wii launch as a cashier. We didn't let them go anywhere else in the store. And best judgment? what kind of point is that?

I've already made the conscious and willing decision to pre-order the Legendary edition earlier, though. It's not like I'm going to be put on the spot and my will will break or anything.
Heck, I pre-ordered it well over a year ago - I just found my pre-order receipt and it was back right after E3 last year; I put money down on my Gears LE also.
If you just want a regular or ce copy of the game, my guess is you will have no problem finding one. However, I am guessing that legendary will not be available unless you preordered it, due to it being $130 and (supposedly) an actual limited edition.

Well, BestBuy.com lists Legendary as Out Of Stock, so I'm assuming that Best Buy would be a no-go.

ok. You didn't hear me say this but, If you live in the NW and get to fred meyers possibly before they open, There *MIGHT* be a chance they have legendaries available. I don't care for legendary at all. Oh and there won't be any dead pets. they put a small plastic bar inside the helmet to prevent creatures from wearing it. I guess its pretty small too.

I still see so called "limited edition" games in stores all the time. FFXII, Gears of War, Prey, shit even the Halo 2 one is still out there. They may as well dump that marketing speak and just call them the "+$10" edition.
I'm still on the fence on whether or not to get the regular or special edition. On the one hand, I am a sucker for metal tins and bonus material. But fuck... it comes to 91 (ninety one! dollars over here. The reports of the discs being minced in the case aren't helping either. I'm really getting sick of the standard $69.99 price for a game this generation. It's really doing nothing but forcing me to either rent or only buy the big name games. At least Nintendo has kept it down to 59.99, but that's not that much better.
Other fun canadian pricing hijinks. The new Halo 3 themed controllers and headset here are also priced exactly the same as the regular edition game. Dunno if that's the same as in the states though.

If you've seen the inside of the game case you'd be more apt to believe me. They came up with literally the cheapest possible method I can ever think of to keep two disks in one case. I can't believe they wouldn't fork over the couple of extra cents it would cost to do the clip in insert from last gen.
