Thought it said Chrono Trigger then imagine my surprise to see my favorite jrpg instead. Too many lets play threads, too many of them with good games being played.
Hmm..couldn't you just post the link to the video instead of all the screen caps?
That said, I love me some Chrono Cross. I know a lot of people didn't like it because it wasn't Chrono Trigger 2, but that's why I liked it. It keeps ties to CT and manages to be it's own games.

Now, someone go make a Xenogears thread.
This way it serves both the folks who want to watch the video and those who may browse from a non-video friendly place, such as the office.
Finished capping the opening sequence and uploading now.

Chapter 1, Part 1 - If we shadows have offended
Going with the default name here, people.
So we are, apparently, in some sort of temple that worships dragons.
And our random third character for the introduction is Leena!
"Leena."
Alright, we're in control now. Let's see what's down the right hallway first...
Kid likes to say "Bugger" a lot. It's really funny when you consider it means "Butt sex"
Alright, let's check out the other hallway...
And we're being attacked by a giant robot!!
Actually, it's two robots. Serge's going to show 'em what's up.
Fuck you!
Alright, so Leena is bombing around with a dude who has a double bladed sword, and a girl who carries a dagger everywhere. They presumably have lots of other weapons. And yet they make her face a temple full of monsters with a fucking frying pan.
Serge bombs the place from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
That is one really nice feature of this game. Your ability to cast spells come boss time isn't impeded by using them on the hundreds of underlings you have to wade through.
Hey, awesome. We found the crystal thing...
And turning it off should have no ill reprecussions whatsoever. I base this on absolutely nothing.
OH SHIT BATS!
I take back everything I said about the frying pan being a lame weapon.
Sneak past a robot guard and go chech out this weird circle platform.
Serge: "There doesn't seem to be a button or anything...
Serge: "Oh. Nevermind."
I suppose it's sort of pointless to lock your doors when you've got a floating sky fortress.
Uh-oh. Cutscene. I wonder what's inside...
Oh. So I murdered my traveling companion. Awesome.
I hope she deserved it.
Serge: "Oh good. It was just a dream and I didn't murder anyone. But I do, apparently, hear voices of people telling me good morning when there is no one else in the room."
Oh man I loved this game. I always got stuck at one part though.
When you have to go between the two worlds fighting the dragons!!
There was one time that i actually figured out what to do, and was finally able to beat the game! I am going to have to dig through my games and find it now.

If anyone here's ever played both Chrono Cross and Radical Dreamers, or knows the story behind it, does it seem like the end of CC basically set things up perfectly for Radical Dreamers to happen? It seems like events could lead straight from the end of CC into the RD story.
And then stopped for god knows what reason. I actually really really enjoyed this, and I think beyond the completely superfluous characters, it's at least as good as Chrono Trigger.
On this topic, where the hell is my FFVII let's play thread.
But I'm excited to see how this plays out, are you playing on the computer?
I'm using my PC with the original Chrono Cross PSX disc, although I'm thinking I might rip it to an ISO because right now there is a nasty sound glitch whenever it tries to load an area >.<
On this topic, where the hell is my FFVII let's play thread.
Monday. I keep saying this, but the first bit should be up Monday. This Monday.
Also, Radical Dreamers is referenced as an alternate dimension that is being tracked by Chronopolis's computers, so I really doubt it takes place afterwards. Through most of the development, however, Guile was Guile from RD, if you know what I mean.
What I would give for another Chrono game based of the Cross battle system. And I always loved the stars and advancement system. It felt less grindy to me since stars came from bosses/major fights.

Chapter 1b - A Day in the Life
It's morning, so let's get out there and see what the world's like.
She's not laying it on thick or anything.
Hey, she has a face portrait, I bet she can join my party later.
Christ, I just woke up and everyone in this town is on my ass already.
That conversation didn't go like I expected it to. Anyhow, better go up to the docks and see how pissed off Leena is.
Ah. We've now reached the part of our program where the childhood sweetheart makes demands of me.
Is it just me, or she overly excited about this necklace thing?
Before we head out, let's see if there is anything else interesting in town...
Alright, so there is the standard old dude tutorial here, but that's sort of boring, so I'll just explain it in basics.
* - You have three levels of attack: Weak (1), Strong (2) and Fierce (3). Each one has it's own accuracy rating, which goes up with each successful hit you land. You're more likely to hit if you start with weak attacks and work up to strong attacks.
* - Your Element (Magic/Tech) level goes up as you land successful hits. So if you land a Weak (1) attack, your Element level goes up by 1. Fierce (3) makes it go up by 3.
* - Each Element has a color. When you use an Element, it's color is applied to the "Field Effect" on the battle screen. If the entire field is a single color, that element will be strong, while the opposite color will be weaker. (All blue field makes red weaker, for instance)
* - Elements can typically be used once per battle, and using them lowers your Element level by whatever level the element is. (A Cure Element allocated to a level 3 slot will lower your element level by 3)
* - There are also consumable elements (which are basically like items) which have a little quantity marker on them (such as [x3]) indicating the number you have allocated. You can have up to 5 allocated to a single Element slot. When you use them they're gone for good, unlike normal elements.
I don't know what this thing is, but I'm sure I don't want to know.
Let's go find these Komodo Scales...
Just push this out of the way...
After each battle in Chrono Cross, you have a slight chance of gaining a small increase to one or more of your base attributes, in this case, HP.
Hey I found a Fireball element! I get to blow stuffs up now!
While you might have thought that I was just going to search for shed Komodo scales or something. That's not good enough for our girl Leena. She wants me to murder non-agressive animals and wrest the scales from their freshly dead corpse.
Each of these Komodo dragons are a bit of a small puzzle. I have to chase this one up, block the way down, and then chase it back down.
Hey, two of them! I should be able to get 3 scales off of these guys, easy.
Let's try out this Fireball Element.
Alright, so two komodos yielded a single scale. Honestly, that's my bad. I did burn them into little charred bits.
Oh, good, another one.
So, I'll sneak up that little plateau and jump down at it.
2 more! Huzzah!
Uh-oh. THese ones came to play.
Crap. Still only one. Oh well, one to go.
Let's just kick this rock down and try and shake that chest loose.
Huzzah, let's accessorize!
After that, Mama Komodo showed up and is a little pissy about us slaughtering her chitlins.
But when it's all said and done, I come out on top. And I get:
I've got a new growth level! Levels in Chrono Cross are a little different. As you saw earlier with my HP stat, your base attributes might go up after any given battle. However, how high those stats may rise is hard capped by the current growth level. Your growth level goes up every time you take out a boss like Ma Komodo. So basically, you can't progress farther than your current progress in the game. So you can't just grind monsters until you are 10 levels strong than a hard boss and obliterate them.
There's a lot of random stuff on this beach. Does no one ever come down here?
This is one of those consumable elements I was tlaking about earlier.
Let's go meet Leena.
See, this is why being the "silent protaganist" sucks. Half the town was on my ass earlier about oversleeping. But she's late and all is well. (Granted I just got to the beach like 2 seconds before she got there, but still)
Now, since we haven't seen any of Serge's life before today, naturally we don't have the slightest goddamn clue what she's talking about. I suggest we lie.
She talks an awful lot.
Aw, hell. Let's be nice.
Uh-oh. I'm hearing the voice again.
Cutscene!
Uh.. Tidal Wave...
That was weird.
That's not creepy or anything.
Man, Leena's gonna get be on the business end of a hissy fit when I get back up there. Who leaves someone face down on the beach?
Whoooo boy, this is a long game for a LP. And at the end, probably only half the people will understand what the hell happened. And thats with the summary at the close!
Well done so far, I'm looking forward to see the choices that you make.
Posts
I love this game, but I never got past the very beginning part of the second disc where..
I'll be definitely watching this LP with drool and erection.
