So, it looks like the choices for this get together is the Small Press Expo (
http://spxpo.com/)
Date is Saturday, October 13th.
Place is the Marriott Bethesda North Hotel & Conference Center. Here
http://www.spxpo.com/location.shtml
It's within walking distance from White Flint on the Red Line for those using Public Transit.
Event info (courtesy of Evander):
One day admission is only eight bucks, and all sorts of neat indie comic guyswill be there. In past years there has been Harvey Pekar, and Tony Millionaire, and Scott McCloud, and many other folks.
We will be looking for a place to eat after the show and possibly prior to it as well. A few people will be driving up, so hopefully we won't have an issue if we need to drive wherever we pick to eat. A few members have offered to drive some people up if they are on the way, so feel free to post here and ask.
We are all meeting at the following location ~1-1:30 (courtesy of Evander):
Interested:
lostwords
CyberJackal
Karenna
Evander
Blitzkrieg
altmann
Might be interested:
Xaquin
Mr. Embarkation (depends on when)
potatoe
Ideas:
Blocktoberfest
DC101 events
Ren festival
Dinner somewhere
Making giant snow dongs
I'll edit more as I get more responses.
Not looking for anything involved, just meet up on a weekend somewhere and head out for whatever.
If there's a handful of people interested, maybe hit a bar or grab some food.
I'm just playing it fast and loose here since I really don't have any idea of how many people it would entail yet, or what everyone would like to do.
Obviously if there's a lot of people around here, something that takes a bit more planning will be in order.
That said, give me some feedback people!

or philly, even.
You suck
And Philly sucks
but less than DC
new york is best
you sir have a pretty lady in your sig
edit: philly does suck. It may not be it's fault though .... anything that close to Camden NJ sucks by default.
no dice
To be fair, even Camden hates Camden... so maybe it'll get better (maybe after a cleansing plague or something).
Well, seeing as how I live just a scant few minutes away from DC, and I'm looking to get people together... yeah.
And yes, NYC rocks, I used to go there all the time when I lived in NJ.
Philly wouldn't be completely out of the question I suppose. Bit of a hike, but if that was something the group felt like doing it wouldn't be a bad trip.
NYC would just be a bitch of a trip unless enough of us were all staying overnight (or several) to get the most out of it.
Oh man, I feel so desperate right now.
I live about 25mins away from D.C.
Just don't take me to a bar or something, I don't want to let people down again.
Steam
Pats and Ginos are so overrated. Come to baltimore, stay for the crabs
And yes, Philly does have some good food... but to be fair, there's a pretty good selection in the DC area too... except pizza, oh god I miss great pizza.
Man... just put a sleazy looking lady on that for a billboard and you got yourself some attention!
Agreed to an extent. if it was just a handful of people it's a lot easier to work something like that out. We can discuss things to do once we have a better idea of how many are down for it and when to do it.
Although, feel free to suggest ideas as well. I'm a relative newcomer to the area, so I'm certainly not the most familiar with it.
Better plan: meet up at a white castle in central jersey, eat a sack of burgers, then visit another and another and repeat until someone pukes. Loser is the gimp.
There's like a million of them in NJ. You could arguably navigate the length of the state using them and WaWa's as landmarks.
Only if he buys lunch.
I moved back to the DC area last year (went to high school in NoVA), and was PISSED to find that WHFS had become a balty talk station, and there was some Fuego del Sol! or whatever shit on.
The ESPN zone downtown isn't a bad place for meetup though.
we could all meet at the aquarium and construct vast Orca Stacks.
I think HFStival is still going on. Or at least they had one last year. Don't think they ever had it this year. I think last one I went to had Rage, STP, and Third Eye Blind on the main stage, which should date me horribly. First one I went to had Reel Big Fish, Bosstones, and The Prodigy performing. Also, they played HFS music on 105.7 for a while, till they decided like two months ago to completely take out the music for more talk shows and Orioles coverage. Like we need constant reminder on how awful our baseball team is.
My boss took our entire office to Nats opening day...I figured for 50 folks, that was a shitload of $, right?
Nope. $10 tickets. Not the bleachers.
Opening Day.
God, we suck.
But yeah, I think HFStival is canned for the first time in 17 years. It was usually in Mayish...and nothing so far.
Yep, DC101 has definitely stepped up to the plate.
Edit: When's their next big event anyways? We should do that.
and it's good timing
and i have some extra money
i might try to trek over there
Well, it IS D.C., I'm sure we'll have another Billion Man March soon.
so, 20 people.
Bring the tartar sauce.
The dc101 stuff sounds interesting. I loves me some chili! But I'd imagine that's more of a spring/summer event? Aside from that, we'd be on our own to come up with something. Plenty of good food to be had in the area, but if we held off till spring or something I suppose we could hit up a park and grill some stuff or something. And damn... I can't wait tog et out of work... Mondays are far too long!
Umm, Blocktoberfest is first weekend of october at RFK. That seems a bit too soon though.
Or does it?
I get my Wisdom teeth pulled out on October 2nd so if's it during that time from the 2nd to the 5th I can't do that.
Steam
Get a group of like.. 200 people to do that... that'd be awesome. Just all roll up on the food court and stand in the same line.
