Pulsar bleu has an entire album about space - http://www.mp3.com.au/artist.asp?id=22778

Then there's always bands like pelican, explosions in the sky, godspeed you black emporer! or even sigur ros even though there is some singing (it's either in icelandic or a made up language, so it shouldn't really get in the way)

Has vocals but I used to listen to Space Oddity, Ground Control to Major Tom by David Bowie when I would play EVE.

But I had a character called Major Tom. So maybe it's not the same for you.

When I think about this music to explore space with I think of Boards of Canada, Mogwai and Sigur Ros.

Tons of post-rock bands work, like Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, A Silver Mount Zion, Pelican, This Will Destroy You. Godspeed is probably your best bet if you're looking for something classically inclined, although I'm not sure if that's what you mean because you mentioned Kaki King O_o. But yeah, Sigur Ros and Godspeed.

THe black holes and Revelations album by Muse. Especially Starlight.

Rocket Man which has been covered a fuckton. (I prefer Angie Aparos version but whatevs)

Theres probablly a bunch of Gorillaz songs that might fit your tastes but the best one I can think of off the top of my head is Sound Check (Gravity)

It's not classical, and it's not instrumental, but it's the best space-themed album I've heard in a very long time. Some of the longer passages (Solar Winds, Hyperdrive, and N9) are just perfect for this. The album tends to be very heavy (it's Devin Townsend, after all), but it's a fun, cheesy sort of heaviness that fits perfectly with the theme (a fourth-dimensional entity seeks the perfect cup of coffee, and threatens to blow up the Earth if his demands aren't met.)

    Also,

Vote of full confidence for Sigur Ros. The vocals are much more harmonic than vocal (it's a made-up language designed for that purpose) and I would recommend the first song on (), listed as either Untitled 1 or Vaka.

If you've got a local NPR station, Echoes and Hearts of Space are pretty good. It looks like their websites have past shows on them, so you can give them a try if you want.
