The removal of FF is fucking dumb. Who gives a shit if some people prefer to play with FF on? What the fuck is the problem? That's like a cook not allowing a customer to have salt or pepper or anything because they're such egomaniacs they think their food is just perfect for every person.
Some mechanics would not work very well with FF on, like the spy health icon, rocket jumping, sitckys and even the SG's, but it wasnt anything game "breaking".
While i agree TF2 is an FF off game, i had no issues playing in FF on servers. Maybe they didnt want to take the flak from the broken mechanics due to FF on.
The only issue i had was not being able to see the FF setting of a server from the browser.
Game designers have to make decisions not just to enable the player, but also to limit the player as well so that the game works best.
The game was designed with FF off for a reason, it's just that type of game.
It's the same thing with why I can't save mid-mission in SWAT 4. Sure the designers could have given me that ability, but then everyone would use it and the game wouldn't be nearly as fun. Similarly here, they've decided this is the way they feel playing the game is best. Technically it's still the players choice, but that doesn't change the fact that it weakens the game.
It's their prerogative as the game designers to decide which touches work best with the gameplay, and persdonally I feel it was a good choice.
If you don't like that decisions so much, I doubt it's going to be long before you find mods to re-enable FF.
Do all classes have the same attack delay? I always thought Scout attacked faster? and it's pretty retarded that you can pretty much insta-gib any class (except hw) with a normal weapon critical.
The scout does attack faster, as far as I know, and some weapons (fire axe) are pretty slow. Hopefully more people will do some testing and we can flesh it out some more.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
It's as someone went and painted a mustache on a painting to "make it look better".
I know they want to make the game more accessable to casual gamers...but this is insane.
To Valve, quality control is king. FF reduces the quality of the game by ten fold. They don't want people buying their game, getting into an FF server, getting completely plastered and then giving up the game.
So, I have an incredibly dumb question...how do I access a particular server? Like, for instance the PA servers? I know the IP addresses and passwords are listed on the first page, but where do I actually input that information?

Yes, yes, no0b. Me not good Innerwebs guy.
One of two ways. First way is to add it to your favorites by going to the favorites tab of your servers window and clikcing "add favorite". You put in the IP and add it, then upon connecting it will ask you for a password if there is one. The second way is to open up the console and type:
password <pass>
connect <ip_address>
I am starting to get better with the Spy. Initial thoughts were, "holy shit this is hard". My thoughts now are, "Holy shit this is hard, but doable."
It is hilarious to watch either a clone of yourself run by or watch the enemy panick in order, shooting all his teammates around, trying to find the spy.
I did really, really, really well with the demoman last night. 23 kills, 6 deaths. Unfortunately steam hasn't updated my stats in a few days. Any trick to making sure it gets logged?
I have very little experience with the spy, but I had one good life with one the other night. A sniper, medic, and heavy were making a decent push on us on...hydro? (I never look at the map names, whoops!) Anyways, I decided to try to fix the situation with a little assassination. Three backstabs later, I promptly fell over due to head asplosion.
I switched right back to demo, but it was a nice feeling making a plan as a spy and actually making it happen! I really need to practice with them more.

OH SHIT CAN'T LET PEOPLE HAVE OPTIONS.
Such a dumb decision.
Well, if using salt or pepper with his food turns it into deadly poison then I don't blame the cook for disallowing it. Because most people would interpret the presence of salt and pepper at the table as an implicit indication that it's not going to kill them.
Valve knows that the use of friendly fire breaks the game. It was designed from the beginning to be FF Off. They also realized that the presence of the mp_friendlyfire cvar is interpreted by many as an indication that FF in TF2 is a viable option just like in other FPSes. Many admins turned FF on out of habit without understanding its repercussions on the game. So Valve chose the easiest way of sending them the message and just removed the cvar, which was never supposed to be included to begin with. Some obsessed player will probably come up with a plugin soon enough to turn it back on, but it won't be mainstream.

I'm coming to the conclusion that the demoman is simultaneously the most powerful class and my least favorite. The pyro is probably my favorite so far.
Hey, just wanted to drop in and make my presence known. Had a blast playing with you guys last night (although that last round on Granary was fairly silly. :P). Hope we weren't noobing it up too much (Trezl and Aegirine were playing with me). I haven't played a FPS since Shadow Warrior (fear Lo Wang!), so this is a nice change of pace.
my thing with demoman is that its hit or miss (no pun intended), i'm either rolling and blowing up all sorts of people, or i end the match with like 3 kills and 12 deaths.
Note: I am european but i am not a german. My country only sells UK versions. I took this picture off the steam forums.
I have to admit, at least they were inventive in how they tackled it. I wonder if it plays the appropriate looney tunes style sound effects when someone gets kablooeed.
Demoman is probably the strongest class right now. I think they need some sort of nerf to their direct combat capability, namely their primary grenades detonating on impact. It's too easy to hit people with that when they get close, which should be the Demo's weakness. Maybe there should be a 1 second period after firing where they don't detonate on impact yet or something.
Its a bummer about the FF servers, I really feel like the game isnt meant to be played where people waste half their ammo each life shooting their teamates.

/agree - kinda like that for most classes for me though. one match I'll be #1, next match I'll be stuck with 3 points for like 20 minutes. usually I'll try switching classes and find a sweet spot though. A couple awesomely placed sentries got me 30 points in about 5 minutes yesterday.

honestly if they keep this up they're handing away their community to FF.
now i won't have to leave random servers because FF is on

Hahahaha, now I kind of want that in a patch.
Ah, a plan devilish in its simplicity.

That's crazy. Seriously, a hamburger where the head should be? Oh Germany and your crazy censorship.
when's the Manhunt 2 relase date in Germany? :P
