it's not like it futhers the impression that games are somehow a valid scocial-acceptable hobby, when you have a bunch of pricks suddenly in the spotlight.

Go read the Bungie forums and listen to them whine about not having their own playlist. They truly are a bunch of holier then thou assholes. They expect special treatment just because the are the self proclaimed "Major League Gamers". Nevermind they only account for a fraction of the player base but that wont stop their sense of self entitlement from throwing a bitch fit.

Actually a pro-gamer set of gametypes would be pretty interesting to see. I see no reason why having that game type in the social matchmaking list would be a problem.

because it would validate them as being somehow special.

why should they get special treatment, just for declaring themselves to be pros?

I should get a set of my gametypes, since I am important. Agree, or disagree?

Well, its a community of players that represents a pretty popular national event. They're not a huge subset of the Halo community, but they're not tiny either. Giving them a social matchmaking playlist should be just fine. If you don't want to play it (I wouldn't either), don't pick it.

    Reasons I am important:

    1. There is a song about me

    2. I am on t-shirts.

    3. ...

    4. profit!

Um, MLG's tourneys total over $1 million in cash prizes each season, hold like half a dozen major events from coast to coast every year, and have been featured in the Wall Street Journal and on CBS's 60 Minutes. Other TV networks too, from USA Networks to MTV. I'm not saying its a huge deal, but to say MLG and professional gaming's presence in general is negligible is just wrong.

I'm saddened that I got so many game invites last night but always right in the middle of a match making game. I need to get in on some custom games with you guys again; the general population of match making just causes me to be angry.

So the RvB guys are in the game? Where are they at?

Why, oh God why, is Big Team Battle no longer a ranked playlist a la early Halo 2?

I'm tired of playing with mute XBOX Live guests. And where's my CTF games in Big Team Battle?

It's nothing but snipers, VIP, and territories. Sadly I think this may kill Halo 3 early for me.

So, I have to get something off my chest.

I was one of "those guys" until last Tuesday. You know, the ones who hated Halo because it was Halo. To be quite honest, I had played the first Halo and was completely disappointed. From a PC FPS point of view, the first Halo was not, as the kids say, "all that and a bag of chips". It was decent, as far as XBox games went, but it wasn't the holy fucking grail of gameplay like it was being hyped. As such, I basically wrote the franchise off. Halo 2 came around, and despite people telling me how awesome it was in multiplayer, I chose not to go there, as I heard the single player was shaky at best (basically looking for reasons not to buy it). About this time, the real Halo fanboi's started to pop up. Assaulting us with how great Halo was, and how terrible we were for not playing it. As a veteran gamer of many top notch FPS experiences, this quite frankly pissed me off. As such, I began to fester a seething hatred for Halo as an entity.

Last week, all of my friends pestered and badgered me enough to pick up Halo 3, so I could play with them. I must say, I was wrong. Halo 3's multiplayer is a cacophony of screaming fun. Even the basic Team Slayer is a blast, but get in to some custom games with some of the custom game types, and it becomes mayhem via control pad. I personally enjoy Manly Pits and Pirate Ships, fun and hilarious all in one. In fact, Manly Pits on the Guardian map is so much chaos, my party managed to seriously lag the Halo 3 engine.

In any case, I've gotten roped in. I am a Halo multiplayer convert. See you guys on XBL.

    not really.

six event is not that big a deal, and the fact that they think that they are important doesn't mean that they are.

plus, I'm pretty sure that the mainstream media picks up on them because they misinterpret the "major league" moniker to mean that the MLG is actually considered to be legit by the gamign community.

So, they are pretty self-important is what it comes down to, which is really just more proof of what the rest of us are saying.

I really believe it would be awesome if Bungie started adding customized 'themed' playlists to the matchmaking roster, ones targeted at specific groups. A 'fun' oriented set (which I'm sure would be popular for us PA folk) could be right next to the 'pro-gamer' set.

Oops, sorry dudes! I'm just really glad I finally know what happened with the Forerunners. I found the Terminals to be one of the coolest parts in the game. I absolutely loved reading all those translated messages!

In fact, it's actually kind of gotten me kind of wanting to play Marathon - all of them. Wasn't there something in the Legendary ending about
Master Chief being the same person as the main character in Marathon?
No. The last shot is similar to the opening one in Marathon, but there's no way they can be the same. The character in Marathon had a full backstory, and was a full on cyborg.
I do remember a quote from Alex Seropian sometime after he left Bungie mentioning that they were indeed the same character. I may be wrong though.

He said they're different incarnations of the same character.

Yeah, but what does that even mean? Either they are both the same guy or they are different. Unless this is like a Marvel/Ultimate Marvel thing.

Its kinda like how there are multiple zelda games and each one features a boy named Link and a girl named Zelda. Bungie is kinda doing the same thing, with each game having a crazy super soldier who takes no falling damage, takes orders from AI's, and uses a fusion pistol.

Sports have new rules and regulations all the time. MLB changed the definition of a legal pitch over home base a couple years ago. Football constantly has new rules and regulations regarding what equipment players are legally required to wear in the NFL. NASCAR changes regulations on performance limits on race cars like every couple minutes. How is this any different from a new iteration of a video game?

To play organized football you DO need the latest shoes, the latest pads, the latest helmet technology. Yah, to go out and play backyard ball you need some old sneakers and a pig skin, but to play organized football, not so much. Not that I disagree with you about the pro gamer lists, but if you go look up the definition of sport, pro gaming would fall in to that definition. It wouldn't fall in to athletics, but it would fall in to sport.
