Wait! Is that Ray Wise as the Devil? That's...startlingly appropriate casting.

Great, a show I'd actually want to watch.
You win this round, television.
Well, there was the other show about the guy who can resurrect the dead but they die again if he touches them, but I probably missed that.
Enjoyed the show as well. I thought the fat best friend was a little too wacky, but the rest of the casting was really good. I'll probably be watching/DVRing this.
Well, maybe not that. But it worked pretty well the first time!
Through the darkness of futures past

"The time has come for you to seek the path. Your soul has set you face to face with the clear light and you are about to experience it in its reality, wherein all things are like the void and cloudless sky and the naked spotless intellect is like a transparent vacuum without circumference or center."
God, I miss it so much. Did you ever read the post I wrote about the TP party I went to a few years ago? Everyone dressed up (I was Pete for the cost of a hat and tackle) and there was a whole table of perfectly arranged donuts and smoked cheese pig.

I should still have my pictures, when I get home I'll toss em up. I went with a friend's wife who dressed as (and looks just like) Audrey Horne. Le sigh.
He is the luckiest sonofabitch I know. It's a good thing he's like the nicest guy on earth or he'd be insufferable.
It's nice to know that the good guys occasionally win.
But we digress! So, about this show! It still sounds an awful lot like Dead Like Me to me!

Yeah, it does. Which is cool with me. I've appreciated TV's flirtation with Serious Serial Drama but having something slightly frothy to dip in and out of sounds pretty good right now.
Dead Like Me was pretty damn awesome. If they want to trample of the same territory they better be cheatin'.
Well instead of reaping people who are about to die, they reap people who are alredy dead and escaped from hell. He's more of a bounty hunter. I wasn't expecting much, but I thought it was pretty good.
I also got to chuckle, however my cable company crapped out half way through and I missed the second half o the pilot.
My fav parts were
hitting the dog with the car door, and chasing the dogs with the vacuum cleaner. Its sort of odd because I actually really like dogs, must be something in the injured animal sound track that makes me giggle.
The pilot was pretty solid. I wasn't expecting the special effects, and it threw me off a little. Honestly, I wasn't terribly impressed with the flaming dude. My expectations are probably too high.
I'll definitely give the next few episodes a watch, to see if they can keep up the quality.
Watched it last night, and enjoyed it quite a bit. The Dead Like Me comparison really has no place here. Aside from being a comedy show about death, they really have nothing in common.
How involved exactly is Kevin Smith with this? Was he just a "guest director" for the pilot, or did he have a hand in creating it, and will come back occassionally?
I've read this everywhere and it's pissing me off. I guess non-Canadians wouldn't have seen it, but the guy is playing pretty much the same character he did on a Canuck teen-com called Breaker High, which was out before Jack Black screamed his way into popular culture.
It is a cliche'd chubby slacker thing, sure. But that's been around forever.
EDIT: Note! Breaker High also starred future Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling.

The fat guy who was the slob and friends with the clean skinny guy who was in The Notebook?

He's in the show?
Yes indeedy. He is in the "best friend and comic relief" role. Again.
He's pretty much the reason I PVR'ed it in the first place. But the show is good, as others in the thread have said, so I will stick with it until its inevitable cancellation.
I liked it. However, I need to distance myself from it, lest it get canceled prematurely like all the other shows I have like in the past 5 years (AD, Firefly, Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, etc).
Curse you, ambiguous correlation between shows I like and shows that don't stay on the air!

I'm allowing myself to hope. It's not on Fox, which means it already has half a chance. And christ, it's on the CW which has been showing fucking Smallville for seven years.

Which means as long as they continue to write it like a comic book, they're doing fine.
I finally got to watch the whole episode last night on the CW or whatever its called. I have to agree with the disappointment in the arsonist, they should have gone with a more low budget version, or a much higher budget. Though I guess Pilot episodes dont generally show off the best of what they are capable of because they dont have as much capitol as something thats been syndicated.
Also, the zamboni driver death scene seemed gratuitous, though it assures that the show will retain its late evening time slot, so I dont have to worry about them going kiddie on me.

One of the the reasons I didn't like Buffy (I realize I'm probably making some enemies with that statement) was the fight scenes/special effects. The arsonist seemed very similar in that respect. It was also a surprise. The show had been pretty grounded, for the most part, up until that point.
Like I said, I'm definitely willing to give it a chance. Hopefully its something that I can enjoy.

I'm a sucker for morbid comedies.
If they fix that, it could be a decent show.
Holy shit, that is!
If they have him sing "Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy," I'm fucking sold.

many lines were just awesome. its too bad they put this up against house / ncis / the unit / bones.
Librarians harbor a terrible secret. Find it.
