I'm going to be in New York for the first time for a few days over the weekend, and I should have a fair amount of time to get around and see things.
Aside from the obvious tourist stuff, what are some things I should make sure I do or see? Bonus points for places I should stop and eat!

For Korean food, definitely Li Hua. Small and maybe obscure, but affordable and fucking amazing soon-doobu (or however you spell it).
For a fun and possibly perplexing time (basically, have fun looking for the bathroom), the theme restaurant Jekyll and Hyde provided a lot of entertainment when I went with a big crowd.
Meh, the nintendo store isn't what it's cracked up to be. I was dissapointed.
Be sure to go to the big Toys R Us in Times Square, and FAO Schwartz toystore (forget the exact location)..and the apple store right next to FAO.
Also, if you have a lot of money to spare, go to Ninja New York. AMAZING restaraunt. soooo worth the insane prices.
Also, go to Union Square and hit up the 4 story barns and nobel...and also The Strand Book store (18 miles of books...it's huge), and then up the avenue from the strand is this KILLER geek store with manga, and comic books, and toys, and books, and actionfugures and oh my god it's the best place ever!...
I'm crazy tired, so sorry if this doesn't make any sense
Go eat at the Carnegie Deli. And bring your appetite.
Pick up 1/2 price tickets at the TKTS counter and grab any show.
Visit Central Park.

I don't think I could take a class without sparring. That would be like a class without techniques. Sparring has value not only as an important (necessary) step in applying your techniques to fighting, but also because it provides a rush and feeling of elation, confidence, and joyful exhaustion that can only be matched by ... oh shit, I am describing sex again. Sorry everyone. - Epicurus
If you are bored and have mad time, hop on the 7 train and go to Sripraphai Thai restaurant in Woodside/Queens, because man, that shit is awesome. My friend, who has traveled the globe and been to Thailand too said it's the best Thai he's had outside of Thailand. Just don't go there and order Pad Thai though, try other things, because their Pad Thai isn't anything special. It's everything else.

I think you're talking about Forbidden Planet? That's right off of Union Square, a block away. Very easy to get to and, yes, it is a very cool store.
Well, if you're interested in theatre there's a couple booths where you can get discounted tickets the same day. www.tdf.org has more info.
When you're in New York you'll see a lot of street vendors selling halal food. For the absolute best, go to the corner of 53rd and 6th between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. You can get a chicken and rice, lamb and rice, or combination platter for $6. It'll probably be the best $6 you'll spend when you're there. There is about a 15-20 minute wait at any given time. Do get the white sauce.
I'm sure you'll be tempted to get a hot dog off a street vendor at some point. I know, you're hungry and it's a few hours until dinner. If you really must have a hot dog though, I encourage you to try to make it to criff dog on St. Marks between 1st ave and Ave A www.crifdogsnyc.com. They'll serve you a hot dog wrapped in bacon and deep fried. There's also a bar that you can only get into through the phone booth in crif dog.

Beat me to it.
When I got to NYC and heard about this place I thought it was hyperbolic. I got a platter and looked around to see if anyone was watching and almost ate that shit with my hands it was so good.:P I grew up in Israel, too, where Halal is plentiful. God, so good.

Overpriced tourist food. If you're willing to venture out of midtown, there are lots of cheaper delis out there. Artie's on Broadway and 83rd is great (while you're in the area, check out Zabar's). Katz's on the lower east side is an institution, and I think it's closing soon.
I don't have any good recommendations, but get a good slice of pizza while you're in town. And good bagels. And a black and white cookie (if you go to a deli to eat, buy it there).
Black and white cookie is . And Katz's closing makes me a sad hedgie. And if you have NY pizza...you'll never look at the cheesy pie the same.
You should definitely do a museum or three. Top choices have to be the American Museum Of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (definitely don't miss the Arms and Armor hall!), and the Guggenheim. You should also hit Central Park as well (and if you go to the Met, you will). I'd also stop at Grand Central, just to feel the history of the place.
If NY still does the Cow Parade, try to find the cows. They're really whimsical.
Mamoun's Falafel in Greenwich Village is famous, incredibly delicious, and will only set you back $2 per sandwich (and one is enough, really). It's something of a hole in the wall, but it's totally worth it. Of course, I wouldn't recommend it if there wasn't a ton of other stuff to see in and around the Village anyway, particularly Washington Square Park, Bleecker Street, and St. Mark's.
Here's the address for Mamoun's, in case you decide you're interested:

13th and Broadway. :^:
Also, if you're interested in Japanese crap, definitely hit up Kinokuniya. It's near Times Square and Nintendo World, so it's also not an attraction that'll be out of the way, assuming you're doing touristy things:

Definitely go to the top of the Empire State Building.

PM me if you need any clarification.
Check out my art! Buy some prints!
Truth. The Nintendo store is pretty underwhelming and they don't have a lot of awesome merchandise.
