There should be a larger one, but I'm always up for game. I think most of the PA players (ha, all 2 of them) are more in it for fun than burly man rapage. The ranking system actually WORKS online, so levels 1-2 are actually crappy players, 7-8 are intermediate, up to 12+ where players make few mistakes.
Rushing never works even at high-level play, & you are almost never out of the game until it is truly over. You will always have dozens of ways of coming back.
Yes, it is almost impossible to be base rushed unless you're playing British and over-expose your base to their rush, and even then it is not a "lol 3 minutes rush win", it will still take 5-10 minutes for them to get something that can really threaten your base buildings on the field.
I'd love to play some games tonight. I'm available for nearly whenever. When would you guys like to play?
I might play in a couple of hours. I warn you, I'm terrible, so I'm in it to improve. If I'm on your team, we're going to lose. :P
I have to say, this is the best RTS I have ever played, and it's a real shame more people don't play it. Instead of being a micro-management fest, it's actually important where you place your units. You can pin down a location with a single tank or armored truck, and you don't have to constantly watch it (but you do have to keep tabs on it). This leads me to something else that I really like: positioning. You can flank enemy squads, get behind an anti-tank gun tearing apart your cavalry with your troops and rip it to shreds, and you can use abandoned buildings to amazing effect (just now the AI got in a building in front of a control point with some engineers with flamethrowers, combined with a bunker so I couldn't flank them).
In addition, as I mentioned before, you have to stay on your toes and change strategies on the fly. I went vehicles and I had the AI on the run, until they pulled out a legion of anti-tank guns. Needless to say, I stopped using tanks so heavily.

The game has a great amount of depth, even with such a small selection of units. The mechanics are wonderful like this. I'm getting on Relic Online with a friend, anyone want to join us?
edit: I'll be on GeneralOlaf. If we get a good number of folks, we can do some in-house 2v2s and such
I played three games online today.
The first I won after 19s, he disconnected.
The second I did fairly well early on but made some dumb mistakes and paid for it, lost pretty bad in the end. I will pretend the reason is because I was playing the Brits, who I haven't played in months and couldn't remember what did what.
Third match seemed pretty even, good back and forth. I was fairly proud of a few sneaky tactics I used. Unfortunately my opponent went LD after 20-30 minutes so I didn't get to finish the match.
So far I've learned I suck just about as bad as I thought I would.
Relic name is Accualt, please feel free to add me.
P.S. How do I add friends without ever having played a game with them? This UI isn't very intuitive.

RO's UI Is pretty piss poor, but certainly I've seen worse.
I believe /addfriend (name here) ought to work. I'll add you now.
edit: you're also good to go in the OP too.
God I wanted to strangle to Wehrmacht player, even in the end when he got his shit together (MOVE YOUR FUCKING BIKE). Two Walking Stukas against Americans is a questionable choice but he got so many kills that I guess it worked out. Nice shoutcast though.
And I added just about everyone to my friends list, finally, plus I updated the list on page 9. Happy World War IIing!
I've gone back to this recently, and I'm itching to get some games going. Only have the vanilla CoH though, so that means no expansion for me. Can I still be added to the OP and friend's list?

I'm slowly getting back into this after not playing for a while. Getting used to some changes. If you guys ever need an easy game look me up (Drovek in RelicOnline). I go for 1v1's and 2v2's (My computer can't reliably play anything higher than that. It already takes a bit to load the game, but afterwards it runs well enough. So don't get impatient with me, it's just my machine warming up all those Bulbs). I play Wehrmacht but can play Americans if you want an even easier game.
Man, playing as Brits on Beaux Lowlands is crazy. I was playing against a crappy dude (I'm only level 4 as Brits) so I just let myself get down to 37 VPs in the first 30 minutes then I spent the rest of the time squishing his people with a Cromwell and a Churchill Crocodile. I had an "Oh shit" moment went he pulled out the Tiger but he sucked and never attacked with it so I just built 2 Fireflies, ran them in, and hull-downed for lulz.
If he had been competent it would have been a really frustrating game but the large amount of squishing was sort of therapeutic.
But I cannot play it due to massive performance issues. Loading takes ages and ages, sound hitches every couple of seconds, the game freezes any time I scroll the map. This confuses me, because setting everything to lowest does nothing to allay the glitches, and I could play the first CoH on medium-high with absolutely no problems. Hell, my roommate played the original CoH on his without a graphics card and at about half the minimum requirements.
Is it due to a recent patch or just inherent in Opposing Fronts or what? I'm thinking of patching down in sequence to see if I can't find out, but if someone else has had this problem I'd like to know.

Bizarre. Does the original CoH still work fine, or is everything busted now that you installed OF? Do you have the latest drivers for your video card? What are your specs?
Man sitting in the Gamereplays chat room for five minutes when balance is the topic and hand and I see:
-trenches are OP (deletable)
-rangers are OP (spamability)
-PE infantry design (blob) leads them to OP-ness
-flame pios are OP (spambility vs brits)
-Fireflys are OP (range/damage/cost)
-PIVs are OP (skirts/cost and time to field)
-Shreks are OP
-King Tiger/Jag are OP (free, tie breakers)
-Commandos are OP (reinforce/smoke grenade combo/enemy territory drop/stolen shreks)
-Wehr veterancy is OP
-PE armored cars are OP (early game).
-Brits are underpowered in 1v1 (overwhelm able)
-British are OP as a faction
-PE are OP as a faction
-MG42 supression is OP
k I'm tired of making this list, but the point is, I'm really skeptical of a lot of balance complaints when you see all this on a daily basis. It's not that bad. Pretty much everything I've seen has some type of counter, the effectiveness of which can vary.
Things like early P4's vs British and supercheap Commando reinforce yeah, but let's not get dramatic.
I'm pretty glad that people are considering MG42 suppression to be overpowered. That's it's purpose. It doesn't do anything else, and there are many counters.
It's a fucking machine gun. You're not going to run straight into one of those and expect to live. The suppression/flanking game is what I loved about the original CoH. I'm glad to see it coming back.
MG42s work in CoH just like they do in real life: if you walk up to one, you're going to die. Anybody with half of a brain should be able to figure out a counter, such as using a mortar team or sniper to take them out if you can't flank them.
Or fired up rangers (grrr) or the soon to be destroyed commando smoke / grenade combo.
I can understand Fire-Up on some units like paratroopers or rangers. I mean, that's what they're awesome for. However, that doesn't remove the fact that bullets still kill. Fire-Up makes the soldiers fearless and harder to suppress, but they should die a lot faster when running through MG fire.
Try 1v1 where the goddamn PE can pull out an AC four minutes into the game.
Vickers with their new button/AP rounds? Or with Tommies? Garrisoned American .30 cals? Might be feasible to get PIATs by then. Definitely would need to secure ammo, though.
(Not meant to be smug, just seems like it would work on paper. I usually play Wehr.).
I needed another WW2 game and this kind of reminds me of sudden strike so... now I have it! Fun times ahead yes?
The great thing about COH is even if you lose, while you feel the pain of defeat, you always go out with a bang. It is very rare for a competitive game to kind of fizzle out. The way the resourcing works means it's very hard to totally box someone in and camp their base.
Single player is a blast too. Lots of variation in missions which is great.

So here is a bit of my dxdiag.txt:

Basically, I have a perfectly serviceable computer for playing this game, but at around the 3rd mission of the Panzer Elite Campaign it just grinds to a halt no matter the settings. Other levels experience lesser but still noticeable lag.
I really have no clue what's up with it. I might just uninstall and re-install the original to play online.
I picked up Company of Heroes: Gold with two friends yesterday, and so far it is a very fun game, only Relic Online hasn't worked for about half the time I've had it and isn't working for me right now. Is this normal? Are other people able to sign in currently?
Edit: Relic Online just let me log in. Steam and Relic online is TheScythe21 if anybody wants to add me, but I'm not very good yet.

Its not where you installed the game, rather its in your "My Documents" folder, under games.
Nice replay and commentary. Fun to watch and found it quite helpful.
Hm, that's bizarre. Thanks for letting me know.
EDIT: Is it the playback folder? I went to Skirmish and then Replays and I didn't see any there.

Yeah, just put it in the playback folder and it should show up. Did you put it in the main directory in your MyDocuments?
