Some of his ideas are good. Its just hard for him to keep the book focused, and the cool ideas lose steam midway through the book. I liked his most recent book, Rant.

I love Palahniuk's books, for the most part.

But they are fluff. Pop-fiction. The dude version of chick-lit.

Anytime he is spoken of as an author of any real literary merit, I want to choke someone.

yeah, it's funny how it's perfectly ok for a movie to just be entertaining and not have a deep message that you have to think about to appreciate but a book somehow has to be really deep and insightful

I've enjoyed Palahniuk simply because his books are funny and enjoyable to read

kind of like Stephen King has good stories that can be worth reading even if his ability as a writer is lacking

I don't think you were directing this at me specifically, but I want to point out that I agree completely.

Like I said, I really enjoy reading Palahniuk's books. The only one I haven't read yet is Rant. I merely meant to say that lots of folks seem to think that he is an author of literary fiction, which is grossly inaccurate. His books are the equivalent of a McDonald's value meal: fun to have sometimes, but certainly not high-quality by any stretch of the imagination, and definitely not the cornerstone of a healthy diet.
