Well, several other LPs thought to be dead are rising from their graves, so what the heck, I'll update this one too.

    Part 16: Casualties of War
    Year 1, Month 8, Week 1

    IMG_3740.jpg

So heading back to the world map, it still seems Tradnor and Fandaria can't make up their minds on who gets to claim this little castle.

    IMG_3742.jpg

Fandaria's starting to get serious about it, from the looks of things.

    IMG_3744.jpg

More than enough to take out Reinhart's skeleton crew.

    IMG_3745.jpg

Still, that's their problem; we have a zombie to take care of.

    IMG_3749.jpg

    As promised, he's all Vlad's.

    IMG_3751.jpg

Along with some help, of course.

    IMG_3754.jpg

The Hylian can run the show in the meantime.

    IMG_3756.jpg

It's a ways away, but we'll get there.

    IMG_3759.jpg

    They're not going anywhere.

And as expected, Fandaria cleaned house.

    IMG_3760.jpg

    Except Tradnor wants it back.

    IMG_3761.jpg

    So much for that.

    IMG_3765.jpg

    It's all theirs now.

In the meantime, it's time we got back to our own offensive.

    IMG_3770.jpg

This one seems like a good way to tighten the noose.

    IMG_3773.jpg

    Lightly guarded, too.

    IMG_3774.jpg

So these three should be more than enough.

    IMG_3780.jpg

It's close enough to ensure that we get there well before Vlad will arrive at Ryskim's place.

    IMG_3788.jpg

    And it's on.

    IMG_3790.jpg

Presto's a Tradnor general, so he's not one to be taken lightly.

    IMG_3802.jpg

Worse, he's one of the few that uses something other than Mages.

The plan was to send Beykall to soften him up, except...

    IMG_3807.jpg

That means he doesn't like the odds.

    IMG_3808.jpg

That means I could care less.

    IMG_3810.jpg

Well, not really, but go anyway.

    IMG_3819.jpg

    That's the spirit!

    IMG_3820.jpg

    See, he feels better already.

    IMG_3821.jpg

Presto's not wasting time, since he has the troop advantage.

    IMG_3822.jpg

    May as well brace ourselves.

    IMG_3823.jpg

Archers are cannon fodder against pretty much everything, but they'll at least slow the Cavalry down.

    IMG_3824.jpg

    Or so I hoped.

Nyvkall's still got magic on his side, so there's that.

    IMG_3825.jpg

Good for when they get up close to Nyvkall(which they will), so we'll use the general attacker for now.

    IMG_3827.jpg

    Just a warm up.

    IMG_3828.jpg

Also gives us some extra time for a few uninterrupted arrow shots.

    IMG_3829.jpg

And since they're on the way, seems better to bring them back home.

    IMG_3831.jpg

    Okay, this is going badly.

    IMG_3832.jpg

    This should help a little.

    IMG_3834.jpg

One of the few things priests are good for.

    IMG_3836.jpg

    Well, it's quieter now.

    IMG_3839.jpg

Unfortunately, Presto's still got tricks up his sleeve.

    IMG_3840.jpg

    That looks painful.

    IMG_3842.jpg

And they won't be able to do much in the way of retaliation.

    IMG_3843.jpg

This could end badly, but what do we have to lose?

    IMG_3844.jpg

And to think he didn't want to fight.

    IMG_3846.jpg

    That doesn't sound good.

    IMG_3848.jpg

    Well, shoot.

    Just a flesh wound?

    IMG_3850.jpg

Of course, I could be wrong.

It's not like we forced him to die.

    Anyway, on to Plan B.

    IMG_3856.jpg

At least he softened him up for us.

    IMG_3857.jpg

    Right, good luck with that.

    IMG_3858.jpg

Not much to fear but some raining fiery death.

    IMG_3859.jpg

Besides, we have this on our side.

    IMG_3861.jpg

Presto's not one to die sitting down.

    IMG_3862.jpg

    Let's help him along.

    IMG_3868.jpg

    Beykall's half avenged, at least.

(Since Presto is one of Reinhart's generals, we couldn't kill him if we tried.)

    IMG_3873.jpg

The deaths of his lessers give him strength.

    IMG_3874.jpg

And since Presto is a high ranker, he gets sent to Junon.

    IMG_3877.jpg

Fandaria's keeping busy. What sick rulers send nuns to fight for them?
    (Ones like Goldark, that's who.)

But we can deal with them later, back to cleansing the undead.

    IMG_3879.jpg

    No hurry, they're both immortal.

    IMG_3881.jpg

    They pay better.

Ryskim: You're not supposed to value life anymore.

    IMG_3882.jpg

Vlad: You've stolen the sacred treasure of the immortals, and now you control Sierra.
    You're a cowardly man.

Ryskim: Ha ha ha... Sierra is mine. The Dark Orb assures that!

Vlad: Then I'll be sure to save Sierra.

Ryskim: Tedious fool. I don't have time to bother with you.
The Dark Orb is the greatest source of power for a vampire. And since you don't have it, you shall not defeat me.

    IMG_3887.jpg

    Who needs a fiancee anyway?

    IMG_3889.jpg

    shangtsung.jpg?

    Probably a coincedence.

    IMG_3890.jpg

Now's a good time to start.

    IMG_3893.jpg

Sierra's not as deadly as Ryskim, but she's no pushover.

    IMG_3895.jpg

Vlad has to fight her, since this is personal. Or maybe he's just thirsty.

    IMG_3896.jpg

She doesn't talk much, due to the whole possessed by evil forces thing.

    IMG_3897.jpg

All's fair in love and zombie uprisings.

    IMG_3899.jpg

    First we'll do some purging.

    IMG_3900.jpg

It won't hurt Sierra, but it'll sure cut back on her armada.

    IMG_3901.jpg

However, she has tricks of her own.

    IMG_3902.jpg

Trident's Daughter, which does inflict damage to generals.

    IMG_3903.jpg

Zombies aren't fond of it, either.

    IMG_3904.jpg

    Ouch, they caught up fast.

    Let's rebalance the scales.

    IMG_3905.jpg

With the insurgents dealt with, we'll return the favor.

    IMG_3906.jpg

    The joys of necromancy.

    IMG_3907.jpg

They grow up so quick these days.

    IMG_3908.jpg

No, I don't get why the undead can have the angels answer their bidding either.

    IMG_3910.jpg

Sierra still has a pretty sizable force.

    IMG_3912.jpg

And Vlad's out of MP, so it's just up to his troops now.

On the downside, Sierra still has plenty to spare.

    IMG_3913.jpg

I think it's time for a change of strategy.

    IMG_3916.jpg

    We run and not die.

    IMG_3919.jpg

I wouldn't do this normally, since zombie slaying isn't exactly Teiris' specialty, but she should be able to finish off Sierra without too much bloodshed.

    IMG_3920.jpg

    Suicide.

    IMG_3921.jpg

    I don't think that'll be a problem.

Though since Sierra just casted a very nasty spell, Teiris could be in trouble.

    IMG_3922.jpg

This one not only stops the special meter from recharging, but it also prevents retreat.

So if a general's prone to dying with a loss, it's basically a death sentence if they don't win.

    IMG_3923.jpg

Fortunately, that won't be a problem. Dragons eat the undead for breakfast.

    IMG_3924.jpg

While we send them in to finish the job, we'll beat Sierra at her own game.

    IMG_3925.jpg

    Elves do it better.

    IMG_3926.jpg

    She's a finicky spirit, I guess.

    IMG_3927.jpg

Except now she's doing holy work.

    IMG_3928.jpg

    And Sierra is claw food.

    IMG_3931.jpg

Now that just leaves the master himself.

Why let all those dragons go to waste? She's on a roll.

    IMG_3935.jpg

    Not a pleasant mental image.

    IMG_3936.jpg

When zombies are on the battlefield, you can eat zombies anytime.

    IMG_3937.jpg

They're a bit more likely to hurt this time around.

    IMG_3938.jpg

We still have the advantage in troop type, at least.

Ryskim tries to give himself a head start, but he didn't pay much attention to the zombie spellbook.

    IMG_3940.jpg

Stone Pedestal has no effect on dragons.

    IMG_3941.jpg

I don't think they're too happy about that.

    IMG_3942.jpg

    Go share your displeasure.

    IMG_3945.jpg

    Hey, that's our trick.

    IMG_3946.jpg

    Too little, too late.

    IMG_3947.jpg

Ryskim has MP and troops to spare, but health, not so much.

    IMG_3948.jpg

    An early surrender?

    IMG_3949.jpg

    I guess not.

    IMG_3951.jpg

Hey, it's not supposed to go like this.

    IMG_3952.jpg

Strength of numbers wins the day, for now.

    IMG_3953.jpg

No sense risking a Dragon Force member to an early death. Astea would sue us blind.

    IMG_3956.jpg

    We'll finish him Tristan-style.

    IMG_3961.jpg

    Here meaning with birdies.

    IMG_3962.jpg

Ryskim's still got the numbers, but he is hurting. It won't take much to put him down for the count.

    IMG_3963.jpg

The sooner we get in there and take him out, the better.

    IMG_3964.jpg

Getting through the front line should be tricky, but it's doable.

    IMG_3965.jpg

    So far, so good.

    IMG_3966.jpg

And right before the moment of truth, Ryskim proves that zombies can make the same mistake twice.

    IMG_3968.jpg

It doesn't work on Harpies, either.

    IMG_3969.jpg

A few of them make it through to Ayrios, but that's what the rear guard is for.

    IMG_3970.jpg

I think he's running low on snaps.

    IMG_3971.jpg

Sonic waves of death speak louder, anyway.

    IMG_3972.jpg

    That's more like it.

    IMG_3973.jpg
(-power. What did you think he meant?)

I think odds are pretty good, myself.

    IMG_3974.jpg

Nice try, but they won't save you this time.

    IMG_3976.jpg

    Deny, deny, deny.

    IMG_3977.jpg

    IMG_3980.jpg

Hard to tell, the dragons might've eaten it.

    IMG_3981.jpg

    Or at least, her remains.

    IMG_3982.jpg

    Not without true love's first-

    Wait, wrong story.

    IMG_3984.jpg

Vlad: With your power, the soul is called back from nothing.
The blood runs hot in veins once cold, and the body is released from the chains of decay.

    Counter-necromancy? Gruesome.

    IMG_3985.jpg

And to think: we're the good guys.

    IMG_3994.jpg

    Aren't there laws against this?

    IMG_3996.jpg

    IMG_4001.jpg

The Dark Orb: summoner of undead, reviver of corpses, the finest in beauty treatments.
Brought to you by the Umbrella Corporation.

    IMG_4004.jpg

    IMG_4005.jpg

Oh nothing, just a few dozen undead, no one'll miss them.

Vlad: Do not try to remember. Know only that your long nightmare has ended.

    IMG_4007.jpg

    IMG_4008.jpg

    IMG_4009.jpg

    At least she's obedient.

    She'll make good cannon fodder.

    IMG_4010.jpg

    Finish her.

    IMG_4011.jpg

    Or not.

So Sienna'll be in the hospital for a week, give or take.

    IMG_4013.jpg

    Teiris claims her blood debt.

    IMG_4020.jpg

Excellent. Dark Vortex can wipe a field of enemies out in moments.

    IMG_4021.jpg

And he gets a level, but not as much destructive might. Maybe next time.

So what's happening in ground zero?

    IMG_4024.jpg

Reinhart and Goldark just can't get along.

    IMG_4025.jpg

And now Gongos wants a piece of the action.

    IMG_4027.jpg

Leaving poor little Reinhart confined to his HQ.

    IMG_4028.jpg

Bozack's sent over a pretty decent squad, including one of their commanders.

    IMG_4029.jpg

And Reinhart's down to just his honor guard, sans Presto.

    It's time to move.

    IMG_4035.jpg

A little of every culture represented.

    IMG_4036.jpg

Yet, this expedition'll have to wait.

    IMG_4041.jpg

What better time than during a journey for an impromptu awards session?

    IMG_4046.jpg

Might as well up the Cavalry until we get some Dragons for her(which we will).

    IMG_4047.jpg

The people love a good armored killing machine.

    IMG_4051.jpg

It's high time that we blacked out Tradnor.

    Next time: The Lady Killers

Wow, Presto is now my favorite General. He has both a top hat and a monocle. Nothing can beat that in terms of classiness.

Good news: I was reinspired, so I went and worked on an update.

Bad news: Reinhart's honor guard put up one heck of a fight. They aren't down just yet, but I did bring Tradnor down to a skeleton crew.

I'll see about getting it posted tonight, but that battle took forever to resolve, and there's a lot of images to sort through.

Also, almost to page six! The 56kers'll thank me, if they haven't given up yet.

    A preview, you ask?

Iwakura is back with an update? Maybe I ought to drag mine back from the depths.

Is it odd that I actually enjoy reading this while never having even heard of Dragon Force before?

Funny you should mention, I'm almost done sorting through the images for the next update.

I can't guarantee I'll get it posted tonight, but tomorrow at the very latest.

Also, I'd like to upload the overworld BGM for Tristan Empire for sake of listening to during the posts, because it is really awesome, but I'm at a lack for ideas of where to upload it to.

    Any suggestions?

I'm trying a website that might do the trick. If it works, I'll update with the link here and/or with the next update.

    Problem solved:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq9YbzLjLJQ

It makes for good background music. Probably my favorite, next to Izumo's and Tradnor's.

This came up on a quick search: http://www.nowupload.com/

Tried uploading a short lecture .mp3 to the site and it seems to work fine. (Streaming audio) No sign ups either.

    Okay, give this a shot:

[link removed, uploaded to youtube instead]

It isn't at all what you would expect an empire's theme music to sound like. Very ambient.

In case it was missed above, for your listening pleasure, the background music for the Tristan campaign.

Part 17: Playing Hard To Get
    Year 1, Month 8, Week 2

So from our suicidal strike against Presto, and some zombie slaying, there's still some awards to give out.

First for Ruix, for wisely letting the enemy slay some faceless priest instead of someone important.

    IMG_4059.jpg

Next time kill some Spirit Users. Too many of them running around.

    IMG_4061.jpg

    Next, our Elven Sorceress-turned-Dragon Warrior.

    IMG_4069.jpg

And lastly, Vlad. Wasn't getting the Dark Orb and his undead girlfriend enough?

    IMG_4071.jpg

Well, since he was so nice about it.

Since we only have one captive(Presto), we're not likely to get any recruiting done.

Still, we can at least hear what the prisoner has to say for himself.

    IMG_4074.jpg

    Not very classy.

    Searching went fairly well.
    Bastion - Astea's Herb - Highland
Ogredd & Duran - Spirit Crests - Magicka

Astea's Herb is an instant recover for a hospitalized ruler, so it's good to have.

We'll save it for a special occasion.

Moving on to fortification, let's make Vlad earn his award.

    IMG_4076.jpg

    Words to live by.

    IMG_4077.jpg

Fab. This brings Crystal Castle from Level 9 to 11, so not bad for a week's work.

    Where were we?

    Right, Tradnor.

    IMG_4080.jpg

Turns out Gongos' crew are fickle, leaving their newfound territory open for the taking.

    IMG_4083.jpg

    Well, excluding these two.

    IMG_4084.jpg

We'll make the best of it.

    IMG_4092.jpg

They're way outnumbered, and Katt's other general is probably the more dangerous of the two, since she's packing Cavalry.

    IMG_4094.jpg

Only fitting we send a knight.

    IMG_4095.jpg

    At least, one in appearances.

Rudger is quite possibly the most flavored general in the entire game.

Whenever he's up against a woman, he hits on her. He has a unique comment for every single female. I've never seen them all.

    IMG_4096.jpg

They rarely take kindly to his advances, so he just beats them up like a true gentleman would.

    IMG_4097.jpg

Rudger has the inferior Soldier class, but it should still be enough to at least slow down Rykker's forces while some Sonic interference tears them apart.

    IMG_4098.jpg

We'll keep on the defensive until then.

    IMG_4099.jpg

It's not Sonic Blast, but it'll do.

    IMG_4100.jpg

    IMG_4101.jpg

Didn't take out as many as I'd like, but it's a start.

    IMG_4102.jpg

And now the advantage is ours. Rudger can easily handle the last of them.

    IMG_4104.jpg
    "Open up and say 'ahh'!"

    Copycat.

    IMG_4105.jpg

It's down to just her now.

    IMG_4106.jpg

I've seen a lot of Sonic Booms, and I do agree that Rudger's is the best.

    IMG_4107.jpg

She won't hold out much longer.

    IMG_4108.jpg

She's stubborn, I'll give her that.

    IMG_4109.jpg

    Very.

    IMG_4110.jpg

    Fortunately, she's also stupid.

    IMG_4112.jpg

Turn down a knight, will you?

    IMG_4113.jpg

It always has to be done the hard way with these people.

    IMG_4116.jpg

    One down.

    IMG_4122.jpg

I should give Rudger a respite, but since the other general's a lady, we're morally obligated to see what he has to say.

    IMG_4124a.jpg

Aside from the whole foot-long claws of death thing.

    IMG_4124b.jpg

    You can't please some people.

    IMG_4126.jpg

This would be a pretty easy battle if Rudger was at full strength, but he's decidedly lacking in troop count at the moment.

    IMG_4127.jpg
""Just the pill I need to sober up. I'll take you all on!"

    Don't drink and command.

    IMG_4129.jpg

I was thinking he could at least bring down her numbers somewhat, but I underestimated Katt a little.

    IMG_4131.jpg

    To Rudger's downfall.

    IMG_4132.jpg

I'd forgotten how powerful that stupid attack is.

    IMG_4133.jpg

    Well, shoot.

    IMG_4134.jpg

    He'll be back.

    IMG_4136.jpg

This'll be enough to finish her off.

    IMG_4137.jpg

Hopefully this won't come down to a duel.

    IMG_4138.jpg

    Which ones?

    IMG_4139.jpg

This won't be so much a fight, as much as a massive crossfire.

    IMG_4141.jpg

Fortunately, Laine's got most of the firepower on her side.

    IMG_4142.jpg

    This should purge well enough.

    IMG_4143.jpg

    IMG_4144.jpg

This keeps the numbers in our favor, but Katt's taking this more personal.

    IMG_4146.jpg

Beasts are so much easier to conquer when they aren't throwing out sorcery.

    IMG_4149.jpg

Her troops are done for, so Laine's can finish the job.

    IMG_4150.jpg

    With a little extra support.

    IMG_4151.jpg

    What the?...

    IMG_4153.jpg

    You've got to be kidding.
The Reaper takes both Generals' HP to 1. Very dangerous.

And to be casted by a leader surrounded by mages, very stupid.

    IMG_4155.jpg

That was way too close. I'd forgotten all about that evil spell, and I had no idea Katt knew it.

    IMG_4160.jpg

All's well that ends well, Rudger's hospitalization aside.

    IMG_4165.jpg

    Omelette, broken eggs, etc.

    IMG_4168.jpg

Shame Rudger doesn't get one, since he was sent to the hospital before he could get a reward.

    IMG_4169.jpg

We've still got enough to hold the fort.

    Still, we will need backup.

    IMG_4172.jpg

    IMG_4173.jpg

    These four should do.

    IMG_4176.jpg

And once our backup's arrived, we go to smite Reinhart.

    IMG_4178.jpg

Unless of course, they come to us first.

    IMG_4179.jpg

    In force.
    Mage x 40
    Samurai x 40
    Dragon x 30
    Calvary x 30
    Samurai x 10

    Yeah, they're not playing around.

    IMG_4180.jpg

Why now? Madruk's followers have the worst timing.

    IMG_4181.jpg

We don't have as much time to prepare as I'd like, either.

But there's no way I'm giving up the castle.

    IMG_4185.jpg

    So it's on.

    IMG_4187.jpg

I'm pretty sure they brought enough.

    IMG_4188.jpg

They're starting off with their weakest general, for some odd reason, so we'll get this over with quick.

    IMG_4189.jpg

Anything other than Defense would be a bad idea in that position.

    IMG_4191.jpg

    Not that it'll help.

    IMG_4193.jpg

Shame that isn't going to do any damage.

    IMG_4195.jpg

    Ninjas, no backbone.

    IMG_4197.jpg

And now we're on to Reinhart's dragon general, Uryll. I'd wish I'd brought Rudger for this one. The fireworks would've been hilarious.

One of her kin will have to do.

    IMG_4198.jpg

    No unique opening, unfortunately.

    IMG_4199.jpg

She's going for Breach, which isn't too bad a strategy.

    IMG_4200.jpg

    Shame she's way outnumbered.

    IMG_4201.jpg

Who's going to be the first serving?

    IMG_4202.jpg

    Like fuel for the blender.

Uryll: "You're not leaving here alive...."

I don't like the sound of that.

    IMG_4204.jpg

Okay, so retreat's not an option.

    IMG_4205.jpg

That just means we'll have to finish this quick.

    IMG_4206.jpg

    No turning back now.

    IMG_4207.jpg

This is why I need to remember to look into what spells these people know before fighting them.

    IMG_4208.jpg

    That complicates matters.

    IMG_4209.jpg

Odds just went from 'slaughter' to 'stalemate'.

    IMG_4210.jpg

They almost make it there, except...

    IMG_4212.jpg

She's not close to being done.

    IMG_4213.jpg

We'd better level the playing field a little.

    IMG_4214.jpg

    Still a ways to go.

    IMG_4216.jpg

And they keep growing, and growing.

    IMG_4217.jpg

Since they're in Melee mode, they're too interested in chasing down her endless dragon horde to worry about her.

    IMG_4218.jpg

For some reason, she's casting Ensnare again.

    IMG_4219.jpg

It only works once, but I guess the AI doesn't realize that.

    IMG_4220.jpg

So now it's just him versus them, and no retreat.

    IMG_4221.jpg

    Unless that happens.

    IMG_4224.jpg

    Two down, sort of.

    IMG_4225.jpg

The Harpy brigade'll make short work of Ardor's cavalry.

    IMG_4226.jpg

They're coming in force, but that's no concern of Scar's.

    IMG_4227.jpg

We'll have a squad on him before the Calvary even come close.

    IMG_4228.jpg

    They won't even notice.

    IMG_4229.jpg

Pay no mind to the winged assassins passing by.

    IMG_4231.jpg

    anubis1.gif
    Yes indeed.

    IMG_4232.jpg

    So much for them.

    IMG_4233.jpg

    Now it's all us.

    IMG_4234.jpg

    Weather interference aside.

    IMG_4235.jpg

Still not enough to save him. Or her. I've never been sure which Ardor was.

    IMG_4236.jpg

Either way, it flees just like the rest.

    IMG_4239.jpg

Probably the strongest one of the bunch, so we'll respond in kind.

    IMG_4240.jpg

    We'll keep that in mind.

    IMG_4242.jpg

Everyone up in front, just to greet the main force.

    IMG_4243.jpg

Protect, figures. So this means we have to go to them.

    IMG_4244.jpg

    I'm okay with that.

    IMG_4246.jpg

    Protect is for the weak.

    IMG_4247.jpg

    And he's toast.

    IMG_4248.jpg

    Nice try.

    IMG_4249.jpg

At least he was willing to let us kill him.

    IMG_4250.jpg

    Capture works too.

    IMG_4252.jpg

Last and definitely least, the second of Reinhart's commanders.

    IMG_4256.jpg

Not the nicest wizard in town.

    IMG_4257.jpg

They've got the troop and number advantage, but Scar should at least be able to finish off Bardal's posse.

    IMG_4259.jpg

Maybe they can get some hits in before they're gunned down.

    IMG_4261.jpg

    That also helps.

    IMG_4263.jpg

    Unfortunately, their majority wins out.

    But not for long.

    IMG_4264.jpg

    Scar's all for it.

    Bardal, not so much.

    IMG_4266.jpg

We held them off, but it's not a victory in my book until they're all dead or imprisoned.

    IMG_4268.jpg

So, we're finishing this right here.

    IMG_4273.jpg

They're all hurting for troops, but full MP goes a long way.

    IMG_4276.jpg

    The party's just beginning.

    IMG_4280.jpg

Where did you think you were going?

    IMG_4281.jpg

    First, the dragon.

    IMG_4282.jpg

    This won't take long.

    IMG_4284.jpg

As if that wasn't imposing enough:

    IMG_4285.jpg

    We'll bury them in fire.

    IMG_4286.jpg

    IMG_4288.jpg

    Not old enough.

    IMG_4290.jpg

    This isn't even a question.

    IMG_4291.jpg

    Stand against this.

    IMG_4292.jpg

    I thought not.

    IMG_4294.jpg

    This'll be another giveaway victory.

    IMG_4295.jpg

At least, it thanks to the Mages' unbeatable wait and shoot tactic.

    IMG_4296.jpg

And we're back to the commander.

    IMG_4299.jpg

Why not settle this in style?

    IMG_4300.jpg

    Because Bardal's a chicken.

    IMG_4301.jpg

What he forgets is that retreating in this case...

    IMG_4303.jpg

Will just bring him right back to us.

    IMG_4304.jpg

Now everyone wants a piece of the action.

    IMG_4311.jpg

Circumstance requires Junon to be stingy. This situation asks for a personal touch.

    IMG_4312.jpg

    IMG_4313.jpg

    You too?

    IMG_4314.jpg

    IMG_4315.jpg

    Cry about it.

    IMG_4316.jpg

    IMG_4317.jpg

Will that be before or after the retreat?

    IMG_4319.jpg

    Your aim's a little off.

    IMG_4321.jpg

Maybe if he'd waited, that would've worked.

    IMG_4322.jpg

And now the castle's really ours, and Reinhart's lost over half of his last brigade.

    IMG_4323.jpg

I hope they attack us now.

    IMG_4324.jpg

    Somehow, I don't think that's a concern.

    IMG_4325.jpg

We have some guests on the way, and once we dispose of them, Reinhart's done for.

It's been a while, hasn't it? Thanks to some outside support from a lurker or two, I guess I don't when to quit.

So without further adieu, let's get this global domination back on the road.

Part 18: Weapons of Mage Destruction
    IMG_4409.jpg

I can't entirely remember who earned all these awards, so I kind of dispersed them around at random.

    IMG_4412.jpg

    IMG_4414.jpg

In all, these were the recipients:
    Gulen +10 Cavalry
    Scar + 10 Harpies
    Ogredd +10 Cavalry
    Vangal +10 Dragons
    Laine +10 Mages
    Lone +10 Cavalry

Also, some recruitment and searching went down, as per usual.

    IMG_4415.jpg

    No new generals, unfortunately.

    IMG_4416.jpg

But Gasparl Castle did get some bonus soldiers, assuming it needed them(unlikely), and two extra levels from fortification.

    How about those captives?

    IMG_4420.jpg

    +1

    IMG_4423.jpg

    No such luck.

On the bright side, Leon and Sierra returned from the hospital, and ex-captive Zatai joined up.

Well then, back to current affairs.

    IMG_4425.jpg

The other territories are closing in, so now's the time to finish Reinhart while we have a chance.

    IMG_4426.jpg

    And his remaining skeleton crew.

Our base of operations for striking at Tradnor has gotten a little crowded what with all the new arrivals, however.

    IMG_4427.jpg

    So we'll do some adjusting.

Most of them get shipped off to the northeast, while we'll use these guys:

    IMG_4429.jpg

To go axe us a Bozack commander.

    IMG_4433.jpg

They do love taking this castle.

    IMG_4437.jpg

    And leaving it unguarded.

    IMG_4438.jpg

As Junon would say, we've got some bulking up to do before moving on Reinhart.

    IMG_4440.jpg

And there's still a lot of conflict to the southwest. Bozack and Izumo never get along.

    IMG_4442.jpg

Still, they're both losing steam fast. Gongos is pretty much down to just his commanders, and Mikhal isn't faring much better.

    IMG_4447.jpg

Once those two armies are taken out, both kingdoms are pretty much ours for the taking.

    But, first things first.

We've got some company that just will. not. stay. dead.

    IMG_4451.jpg

    Messenger: Ryskim has appeared!

    (Command?)

    IMG_4450.jpg

Now, this is an interesting turn of events. As mentioned earlier, in every campaign, Ryskim eventually comes back from the dead to kidnap a major female character from the kingdom. With Wein, it's usually Nina. Mikhal, Sophie; Reinhart, Uryll; etc.

    IMG_4453.jpg

Not entirely sure why, but in this instance, Ryskim tried to kidnap Junon.

    Right, good luck with that.

Ryskim: You shall come with me!

    IMG_4457.jpg

Did you think that you could capture the Black Knight?
I will not be captured and used as bait for your trap!

    Messing with the wrong girl.

    IMG_4459.jpg

If I interfere now, my help may not be welcome.
I'd better watch and wait for the outcome.

    IMG_4464.jpg

That explains the whole bedroom crashing ordeal.

    IMG_4465.jpg

    We were busy!

    IMG_4466.jpg

Junon: You are such a snake.

Ryskim: I am immensely strong. I won't let a mere human defeat me!

    IMG_4468.jpg

    No, but it would've helped.

    IMG_4469.jpg

So, not too much to worry about. Still running on less than a full battalion, but it's only one general and a legion of undead.

Also, Junon's required to handle this personally.

    IMG_4478.jpg

    Should make a good start.

    IMG_4479.jpg

    Guess he's not wasting time.

    IMG_4480.jpg

    Why should we?

    IMG_4481.jpg

While they take the front, Junon can do what she does best.

    IMG_4482.jpg

    Bring the pain.

    IMG_4483.jpg

(No birds were harmed in the making of this special attack)

    IMG_4484.jpg

    (The undead, not so lucky)

    IMG_4485.jpg

I'd forgotten at the time, Ryskim is quick to rebuild.

    IMG_4486.jpg

    I hate necromancers.

    IMG_4486.jpg

This makes the odds decidedly more difficult.

    IMG_4489.jpg

    Also, he isn't stopping.

    IMG_4490.jpg

    Not liking the odds here.

    IMG_4491.jpg

A change in strategy might be in order.

    IMG_4493.jpg

They're fighting valiantly, but odds are not on their side.

    IMG_4494.jpg

In the meantime, I have Junon do as much damage as she can.

    IMG_4497.jpg

There's only so much she can do.

    IMG_4499.jpg

Time for some righteous fury to finish the job. (Monks >>> Zombies)

    IMG_4500.jpg

    Nothing new on that front.

    IMG_4502.jpg

The quicker we do damage to Ryskim, less likely he'll be reviving his zombie legions en masse.

    IMG_4503.jpg

    Fists of god.

    IMG_4505.jpg

And magic of the devil. damnyou.gif

    IMG_4506.jpg

Still, they hold up better than the Harpies did.

    IMG_4508.jpg

Before long, RK's out of luck.

    IMG_4511.jpg

He still gets his bites in here and there.

    IMG_4514.jpg

Kung fu still gets the last laugh.

    IMG_4515.jpg

    Ryskim: This is unbelievable.
One day, I promise you, I shall send you to hell.

    Keep practicing.

    IMG_4519.jpg

I like it. Catchy, easy to remember.

    IMG_4520.jpg

    Even better.

    IMG_4522.jpg

Now with that idiot taken care of, again, we can focus on more important matters.

    IMG_4525.jpg

    Like getting our forces repaired.

    IMG_4527.jpg

Also, Goldark's got a squad moving in, so we have to move up the schedule. I'd rather not have to fend them off while dealing with Reinhart's remnants.

    IMG_4535.jpg

    But first, an interlude.

    IMG_4537.jpg

    This won't be long.

    IMG_4538.jpg

Yuni's a fun character, but that's a benefit Bozack gets to make use of. We're just tasked with shutting her down.

    IMG_4539.jpg

Soldiers have a slight benefit above her Beasts. It won't quite be a pushover, but close enough.

    IMG_4540.jpg

She is a fighter, but nothing we can't endure.

    IMG_4541.jpg

Before long, the threat's dealt with.

    IMG_4542.jpg

    Bye bye kitty.

    IMG_4590.jpg

We're not quite up to full strength, but there's no time for perfection. The Mad Lion's on the move, and so we'll have to be too.

    IMG_4591.jpg

Nothing wrong with calling in some reinforcements, meanwhile.

    IMG_4593.jpg

They won't be there anytime soon, but we'll need them more than Palemoon does.

    IMG_4597.jpg

Another of Reinhart's commanders, but we've already taken out the most dangerous(Bardal & Presto).

    IMG_4602.jpg

We haven't given the merc some use in a while.

    IMG_4606.jpg

So many missed opportunities for Rudger.

    IMG_4607.jpg

Still, Gustav'll have an easier time than he would have.

    IMG_4608.jpg

Just a matter of watching the fireworks.

    IMG_4609.jpg

    Another one down.

    IMG_4611.jpg

Not bad for someone who almost got decapitated.

Now all that's left is Tradnor HQ.

    IMG_4613.jpg

And they're coming to us! How nice of them.

    IMG_4615.jpg

The last battalion. Let's not be rude.

    IMG_4617.jpg

It's not like Sophie did any real damage, so this won't be much trouble.

    IMG_4618.jpg

Not the best match-up in the world, but he can handle it.

Narrak retreated maybe 20 seconds into that fight. Lame.

    IMG_4619.jpg

Hopefully Tsugal, the last Tradnor commander, will have more backbone.

    IMG_4620.jpg

Tsugal: Protect Formation. Pummel them into submission!

So I'm sending a professional to make sure this gets done right. (And messy)

    IMG_4622.jpg

More fuel for the fire. (Adds a bonus to troop strength.)

    IMG_4623.jpg

That's to make sure they can't fight back.

    IMG_4624.jpg

    Feast on their flesh

    IMG_4625.jpg

    fp1-1.png

    This is getting old.

    IMG_4626.jpg

There won't be a repeat of the Ryskim fiasco.

    IMG_4627.jpg

    Not by a long shot.

    Bad news: he escaped.

    IMG_4629.jpg

    Good news: new skill get.

    IMG_4630.jpg

    Best news: no escape.

    IMG_4631.jpg

    Why not try it out?

    IMG_4632.jpg

Just his way of saying hi.

    IMG_4633.jpg

    Cowards are delicious.

    IMG_4634.jpg

    That's that.

    IMG_4637.jpg

    Monk against monk.

    IMG_4638.jpg

Well, ours is slightly more powerful.

    IMG_4639.jpg

    Apocalyptic beatdown.

    IMG_4640.jpg

You're lucky it wasn't the dragons consuming your bones.

    IMG_4641.jpg

That does it for Reinhart's army, commanders and all.

    IMG_4642.jpg

    And then there was one.

    IMG_4644.jpg

It's just him, but he's got quite a lot of flamethrowers waiting for us.

    IMG_4646.jpg

And there's no time to rest.

    IMG_4647.jpg

    Time to end it.

    IMG_4649.jpg

    Not very imposing, is he?

Reinhart: I have heard much of your ways.

Junon: We are not fighting for our own profit and advantage.
Won't you listen to me, please?

Reinhart: Wait! I can imagine what you have to say.
But no talk. I will put you to a test instead.
Let us see if you are worthy to take on the world...

    or not.

    And with that, it's on.

    IMG_4650.jpg

Not like he's got much in comparison.

    IMG_4656.jpg

Even with a full force, this would be a bad idea. Like most long range soldiers, Mages tear Harpies apart.

Still, Junon has the benefit of a Sonic Blast on her side, and besides, it's tradition to let the rulers settle their differences first.

Reinhart has the benefit of speaking the best intro of any ruler in Legendra:

    IMG_4662.jpg

    IMG_4663.jpg

    IMG_4664.jpg

    Why argue that?

    IMG_4665.jpg

    Color-coordinated, no less.

    IMG_4666.jpg

We sent out a welcoming committee, but I don't expect them to get far.

    IMG_4667.jpg

    This should do the trick.

    IMG_4668.jpg

This is how a long range attack is done, charlatans.

    IMG_4670.jpg

It does a lot of damage, but not quite enough to level the playing field. It doesn't take them long to finish off Junon's remaining Harpies.

    IMG_4672.jpg

And Reinhart sends them off to die.

Junon's way outnumbered, but it won't stop her from getting off a parting shot.

    IMG_4673.jpg

As much as I'd love to let Junon finish off most of them by hand, Reinhart's full MP makes me nervous.

    IMG_4679.jpg

So there's some risks we can't take.

    IMG_4684.jpg

Nothing wrong with letting another DFer finish the job.

    IMG_4685.jpg

    That should finish this quickly.

    IMG_4686.jpg

    Or a corpse.

    IMG_4687.jpg

They get the first hits, but we'll make up for that in spades.

    IMG_4689.jpg

Leon's not afraid of a few candlelights.

    IMG_4690.jpg

Another beatdown for the boy wizard.

    IMG_4692.jpg

Either Reinhart's soldiers or his life, neither will last long.

    IMG_4693.jpg

And with the interference wiped out, the soldiers can handle the rest.

    IMG_4694.jpg

Well, one more for the heck of it.

    IMG_4697.jpg

Was that too much? I never know.

    IMG_4698.jpg

    The wizard kingdom is finished.

    IMG_4701.jpg

We'll get rid of the lions occupying our new territory before long.

In the meantime, the others can help clean house to the south.

    IMG_4703.jpg

They can handle pretty much anything the map throws at them.

    IMG_4704.jpg

And if we wipe out this castle, Bozack is pretty much done for.

    IMG_4705.jpg

I also want them out of the way so we can capture Zanon's castle(the neutral territory) to the southeast ASAP.

    IMG_4706.jpg

Well, look at that, they're sending visitors.

    IMG_4707.jpg

Guess we'll have to back up Highland again.

    IMG_4708.jpg

    Alas, business before pleasure.

    IMG_4710.jpg

Ever the bearer of bad news. Why do we keep him around?

Messenger: Three High Mages from Tradnor have blown out the prison wall and rescued King Reinhart!

    IMG_4713.jpg

Presto: That spell was stronger than I thought!

Sophie: Presto! That really was quite excessive, I must say!
Didn't Lord Reinhart say he could handle it himself?

Reinhart: Well, I am the one who should apologize, I suppose.
I'm afraid I've caused a lot of trouble and fuss.

Junon: What does all this mean, Lord Reinhart? Speak up!

    Reinhart: <sigh> Well... okay.

    IMG_4718.jpg

Junon: Behold! The crest is shining! It calls to the other dragon crests!

Reinhart: Ah! You are also a member of the Dragon Force.
I am sorry. I really am. I have been testing you.

    Junon: Testing me?

Reinhart: To defeat 'Mad Lion' Goldark, we needed to be united by a leader who could at least match Goldark's skill. I've had my eye on you, Junon.
I had to make sure of your ability in an actual battle. That's why I fought you.

Junon: You're a strange, weird, little man of fire, Reinhart.

Reinhart: Sure. But I bet you didn't know that my family carries the blood of Valhart in our veins.

Muriko: You're speaking of Valhart, the god of battle!? Like Madruk, he is one of the six male gods, right?

Reinhart: Yes. Because of that blood, I am a powerful magic user.
I would like to use my ability for the good of Legendra.
Would you let me do combat as a member of your company?

Junon: We would welcome you as one of our own! Your power and lineage make you invaluable!

And with that, the mages are ours.

Naturally, Junon's public support is on the rise.

    IMG_4719.jpg

I'll be saving a few of those awards to put that Dragon Crest to use. Junon will need them before long.

    IMG_4722.jpg

A reminder for next week's awarding.

    IMG_4725.jpg

Not a bad addition at all.

    IMG_4726.jpg

Only a few shades of grey remain. Shame that there's a lot of darkness on the horizon.

    Next time: The Lion's Roar

Also, if you want any key members of the Dragon Force to always be around, now's the time to let me know, because I won't be keeping them all handy.

I had hoped to get around to introducing a certain other Dark Knight in this update, but there were some complications...

Before we resume, a little bonus I just uploaded for your listening pleasure in honor of the last conquest:

    Dragon Force BGM: Tradnor Kingdom

Feel free to tune in along the way. It's a good track.

    Part 19: The Fandaria Offensive

    IMG_4734.jpg

First things first, there's some recruitment to do.

There aren't many captives waiting in the dungeons, but there's enough to try and strike a conversation with.

    IMG_4736.jpg

First, trying to get another ninja.

    IMG_4740.jpg

That worked out. (I'm not quite sure why that's considered a positive response)

    IMG_4743.jpg

    And so did that.

Even though we've captured their kingdom, Ardor and Uryll still refuse to join. Hopefully they'll change their minds soon.

    IMG_4744.jpg

No sense keeping the best NPC in the hospital, is there?

    IMG_4746.jpg

    This should do the trick.

    IMG_4747.jpg

    Maybe later.

    As for those Dragon Crests...

    IMG_4749.jpg

Harpies will do for Junon for a while, but Laine's Mages won't cut it, so the other one goes to her.

    Also, some equipment distribution:

    IMG_4750.jpg

One for Laine and one for Teiris, as they're my foremost magic users.

    IMG_4752.jpg

    Goes without saying.

As for award distribution, the following upgrades took place:

    Dayn: 80 Monks

    Gustav: 80 Cavalry

    Laine: 30 Dragons

    Leon: 90 Monks

    Myria: 50 Mages

    Vangal: 70 Dragons

    And some choice discoveries/upgrades:
    Spirit Crest, Dragon Crest(Crystal)
    Ancient Runes, Faith Coin(Tradnor)

    Gasparl Castle: +3 Levels

    IMG_4755.jpg

And back to the field, Stalwart is once again ripe for the taking.

    IMG_4758.jpg

The castle we're after in Bozack territory won't be such a pushover.

    IMG_4761.jpg

    Quite a crew waiting there.

    IMG_4762.jpg

Gives us some time to recover from taking out Tradnor.

    IMG_4765.jpg

    But not that much.

    IMG_4766.jpg

I think the gifting has gone to her head.

    IMG_4768.jpg

Fortunately, they're somewhat lacking in truth strength, but this will still take a while.

    IMG_4770.jpg

    First, the warm-up.

    IMG_4772.jpg

Gorudias did some serious damage with Hyper Tornado, so for once, Resurrect can work for us.

    IMG_4773.jpg

    Finally, a welcome sight.

    IMG_4775.jpg

Doesn't take long for the undying horde to take care of the rest.

    IMG_4778.jpg

    One down.

    IMG_4783.jpg

No contest, since Zakk's running off a skeleton crew. (Thanks in no small part to Izumo's constant attacks from the west.)

    IMG_4784.jpg

    Two down.

    IMG_4786.jpg

    Now, more of a challenge.

    IMG_4787.jpg

Even though he had almost no troops, Santana insisted on casting Stone Pedastal over and over again.

    IMG_4790.jpg

    Which really slowed the progress.

    IMG_4791.jpg

By the time the troops finally get back to work...

    IMG_4792.jpg

Santana manages to survive in the only way possible.

    We'll finish him soon enough.

    Next?

    IMG_4797.jpg

    Another severly outclassed general.

    IMG_4802.jpg

Should've done what the lady said.

Last, and not least, one of Gongos' main generals:

    IMG_4803.jpg

Teiris has Dragons on her side, so this still shouldn't take too long.

    IMG_4804.jpg

Her Dark Vortex spell is a big help in clearing the field.

    IMG_4805.jpg

Unfortunately, Gunner's attacks are a bit more personal.

    IMG_4807.jpg

Also painful. But Teiris manages to endure.

    IMG_4815.jpg

    And running isn't enough.

    IMG_4818.jpg

    Another promotion.

    IMG_4819.jpg

And Laine proves she's an apt pupil.

Oh, as for the retreating Santana...

    IMG_4820.jpg

    Problem solved.

    IMG_4821.jpg

I don't expect he'll be too eager to join, being one of the evil incarnate demon generals and all, but it's worth a shot.

    IMG_4823.jpg

Meanwhile, another Gongos brigade is on their way to return the favor to our Highland squatters.

    IMG_4825.jpg

Sending some extra generals to Crystal Castle in the meantime, since it's a Dragon Crest goldmine.

Can never have too many of those.

    IMG_4826.jpg

Will our reinforcements arrive in time?

    IMG_4829.jpg

    Just barely.

    IMG_4830.jpg

And what would've been a tough fight turns into a slaughter waiting to happen.

Myria: For you, my friend, I have prepared the ultimate torture...

    IMG_4832.jpg

    Horrifying.

    IMG_4833.jpg

    We've got this.

A lot of crossfire results in a sudden duel...

    IMG_4835.jpg

    Between twins, no less.

    IMG_4837.jpg

    And the better sister wins.

    IMG_4838.jpg

Zombies against beasts, this should end well.

    IMG_4841.jpg

Assuming she keeps those claws far away.

    IMG_4842.jpg

The wind magic is a good start.

    IMG_4846.jpg

    But not enough.

    IMG_4847.jpg

    Here she comes...

    IMG_4849.jpg

    Ow.

As if that weren't bad enough,

    IMG_4850.jpg

She makes short work of the remaining corpses.

    IMG_4851.jpg

    Odds seem good, why not?

    IMG_4852.jpg

    That should do it.

    IMG_4853.jpg

    Or not.

    IMG_4854.jpg

That's a relief. Piper's not a general I want to wind up dead.

    IMG_4857.jpg

    This should be less difficult.

    IMG_4859.jpg

    All too easy.

    IMG_4861.jpg

    Close, but no sashimi.

    Next, taking out Piper's captor:

    IMG_4864.jpg

    Easily done.

    IMG_4865.jpg

No death penalty, just a capture.

    IMG_4869.jpg

And another ninja for the collection.

    IMG_4871.jpg

Cavalry win the day, like usual.

    IMG_4872.jpg

Now Bozack is a long way towards being broken. (And yes, we saved Piper from a lengthy hospitalization as well.)

Back to the center of Legendra...

    IMG_4876.jpg

Still a long way to go before we recover, but no time for that, we've got company coming.

    IMG_4880.jpg

Laine & co. aren't quite ready for another assault yet, either.

    IMG_4881.jpg

Bozack's not going down without a fight.

    IMG_4882.jpg

Our crew could win, but the battle would be a little too close for my tastes.

But first, taking out Fandaria's viceroy up north.

    IMG_4887.jpg

Let's celebrate Rudger's return in the only way worthwhile.

    IMG_4889.jpg

Hopefully this won't get his face torn off.

    IMG_4892.jpg

I guess he has a way with beasts.

    IMG_4894.jpg

    Not that good a one.

    IMG_4895.jpg

It'll be a close fight, but nothing a defensive strategy can't handle.

    IMG_4897.jpg

One of the few things generic soldiers are good for.

    IMG_4900.jpg

Doesn't stop Silva from taking a few slices of her own.

    IMG_4902.jpg

Rudger lays down his trademark boom in response.

    IMG_4904.jpg

    And Silva high-tails it.

    IMG_4905.jpg

    The best just got better.

    IMG_4906.jpg

Can't wait to try out his version.

But first, we'll let our resident gentleman deal with the coward.

    IMG_4912.jpg

What I didn't realize at the time, is that Presto is just as big a player as Rudger is.

    IMG_4919.jpg

He just tries to be classier about it, to mixed results.

    IMG_4920.jpg

He's got it where it counts.

    IMG_4922.jpg

    Bringing the toastyness.

    IMG_4923.jpg

    Feisty to the last.

    IMG_4925.jpg

    Afraid so.

    IMG_4926.jpg

Well, it is for her at least.

    (Just another hostage.)

And now we can deal with other matters to the s-...

    IMG_4927.jpg

    Wait, what's this?

    IMG_4929.jpg

If it involves zombies, ghosts, or mad lions, I don't want to hear it.

Messenger: Goldark's army is making an all-out assault on us!

    IMG_4931.jpg

    What did I just say?

Junon: Alas, the storm clouds blacken... and soon the lightning shall strike.

Muriko: This must be the maximum power of his army!

    IMG_4932.jpg

Junon: Yes, but though our ability has increased, we should never find ourselves complacent.

With an enemy like Goldark, there is no certain victory.

Muriko: Your words are wise, Junon. The manner of ordering the divisions will be critical.

    IMG_4934.jpg

    I hope so too.

So for the handful of you who still follow this thing(your patience is a wondrous thing), I am still at it.

My Saturn's been acting up as of late. I blame the Action Replay, but maybe it's the disc. Either way, I managed to pull off an update.

It should be up sometime tomorrow.

    Until then, here's a preview.

    IMG_5058.jpg

Some of you likely know what that means.

    For the rest, well, then.

I've started using a new means of relating the dialogue segments, so feedback is welcome.

Part 20: The Path of Fools and Zealots
Before we instigate the War of the Lion, we've got preparations to do.

    IMG_4942.jpg

    Well, mostly awarding.

    IMG_4943.jpg

    Wise choice.

All in all, the Award upgrades were as follows:
    Ayrios - 80 Harpy
    Gilette - 50 Soldiers
    Kidd - 60 Soldiers
    Laine - 40 Dragons
    Lone - 60 Cavalry
    Myria - 60 Mages
    Presto - 50 Cavalry
    Rudger - 50 Soldiers
    Rufas - 50 Beasts
    Scar - 80 Harpies
    Teiris - 80 Dragons
    Vlad - 80 Zombies

    Now, to the jail cells.

    IMG_4944.jpg

Why can't all the ladies be this reasonable?

    IMG_4946.jpg

I don't think the black armor would fit you, but thanks for asking.

    IMG_4947.jpg

They can't all be reasonable. Executioner!

The results of the recruitment drive:
Ardor, Fyffer, Katt, Santana, Uryll, Yuni- no join
Erin, Farilis, Gekai, Gorudias, Gunner, Silva, Sliver, Zakk- get

By all rights, Ardor and Uryll should join, since I conquered Tradnor, but they won't. Ah well, let them rot then.

On a lighter note, let's do some searching.

    IMG_4948.jpg

    Shiny.
    Search Results

    Dark Axe
    Sage's Bracelet
    Cleric Crest

    Fortify Results

    Highland + 2
    Danyan + 3
    Crystal + 3
    Maryware + 3

I believe Cleric Crest does Monks, but I could be wrong.

The Axe went to Scar, and I gave his sword to Rudger.

    On the Dragon warfront...

    IMG_4950.jpg

Wein's soldiers won't cut it, either. Not against the likes of what we'll be facing.

    IMG_4955.jpg

    And we're good to go.

    IMG_4959.jpg

As you can see, Tradnor's about to become a lot more popular.

    IMG_4960.jpg

I have help on the way, but they'll be some time in the arriving.

    IMG_4963.jpg

Not to mention the squad of new recruits, making it a little overcrowded.

Between all them, I think they can manage. Junon's main squad have another task ahead of them.

    IMG_4965.jpg

Taking out the mystery castle before Goldark does.

    IMG_4968.jpg

On a test run, I took out Goldark first, and then this castle's army was gone. That's bad, because they're crucial.

It doesn't take long for Fandaria's first messenger to arrive.

    IMG_4969.jpg

This must be the warm up.

    IMG_4970.jpg

He's not much of a threat, so Galam can do the honors.

    IMG_4971.jpg

He adjusts to new leadership quickly.

    IMG_4972.jpg

Raid Formation. Pain in the neck.

It's best to dash in headlong.

    IMG_4973.jpg

    Only three waves? Amateur.

    IMG_4975.jpg

    ....

Well, Galam's has more heart behind it.

    IMG_4976.jpg

The raid posse arrives, but nothing we can't handle.

    IMG_4978.jpg

He high tails it, but Galam doesn't play that, so the Highlander is set right after him.

Bagrid made some spiel about the strength of an experienced fox, not that it made any difference.

    IMG_4981.jpg

    That's more like it.

    IMG_4983.jpg

    Next?

    IMG_4985.jpg

    More Fandarian appetizers.

    IMG_4986.jpg

    Scar proceeds to devour them.

    IMG_4987.jpg

    Or, you know, brought help.

    IMG_4989.jpg

Got to send the beginners off to preschool. (Re: away from the brewing chaos)

    IMG_4990.jpg

They can contribute to the hunt for more Dragon Crests.

Next up, we're finally coming to the big guns.

    IMG_4991.jpg

    One of Fandaria's commanders.

    IMG_4998.jpg

She could always use the extra experience.

    IMG_4999.jpg

It was close, but she managed.

In between rounds, one quick change I forgot to make.

    IMG_5000.jpg

If Laine's coming along for the long run, the mages have got to go.

    IMG_5003.jpg

And another commander follows in Kharhaz's wake.

    talon.png

Why don't you give up now? You WILL lose.

Not one to give any regard to taunts, Scar volunteered, and Talon went down.

Meanwhile, I decided to send Leon, Reinhart, and some Tradnorians to attack from the west, and take some heat away from Galam's crew.

    IMG_5005.jpg

They aren't as well equipped, but nothing they can't handle.

    IMG_5006.jpg

Some mages and some cavalry, trifles.

    IMG_5009.jpg

    And the usual cowardice.

We'll take care of that soon enough.

    There's company to the south.

    IMG_5011.jpg

    Bozack, will you never learn?

At this rate, I'll have all their generals before it's even time to conquer them.

    IMG_5012.jpg

At least they're taking us more seriously than Fandaria is.

    IMG_5013.jpg

Eyepatch fashion is for the Caribbean, Viper.

    IMG_5014.jpg

Piper's undead union has the look-alike beast covered.

    IMG_5017.jpg

And Ayrios just plain slaughters the soldier brigade.

    IMG_5020.jpg

Piper settles some unfinished business, since she ran off.

    IMG_5021.jpg

The winds of fate weren't blowing in her favor.

    Meanwhile, Reinhart's finishing off Aisha.

    IMG_5027.jpg

    In style.

    IMG_5028.jpg

He gets all the best lines.

    (You should see his campaign.)

    IMG_5029.jpg

    mk3toastyki5.png

    IMG_5032.jpg

    Don't mess with a pyromancer.

    IMG_5023.jpg

Now then, that's most of Goldark's assault brigade dealt with.

    IMG_5024.jpg

Problem is, we can't have them taking him out. I always use a personal touch when dealing with monarchs.

    IMG_5026.jpg

So, we've got to clear the way for Junon to deal with him.

    IMG_5036.jpg

That's a good spot for them to chill at.

    IMG_5047.jpg

Unfortunately, one of Goldark's other squads did some damage. But he'll get better.

    IMG_5048.jpg

On the bright side, we get to take out another one of Fandaria's commanders; Lyria.

    IMG_5049.jpg

Nice person as Goldark followers go, but she's still got to go.

    IMG_5050.jpg

You're out of your jurisdiction, sister.

    IMG_5052.jpg

A brief interlude. I just do some awards and move on.
Ayrios, Bardal, Dayn, Galam, Leon, Lone, Narrak, Piper, Teiris, Vlad
    90, 50, 90, 50, 100, 70, 40, 50, 90

    Lots of heavy hitters now.

    Oh, and more recruits.
    Fyffer, Gunter, Sylphia, Viper

They saw the light awfully fast.

    Now then, where were we?

    IMG_5054.jpg

    Right, them.

    IMG_5055.jpg

Not the Batman, that's for bloody sure.

    IMG_5058.jpg

    junon.png
Litonia? I don't believe I've ever heard of it.

    zanon.png
I'm not surprised. Litonia is but a small fiefdom now.
But soon it will be on everyone's lips... as the power that brought the end to Tristan!

    junon.png
Why do you want to conquer Tristan of all places?

    zanon.png
I have chosen this land to establish a base, from which I will take over the rest of the continent.

By the sudden demise of Tristan, the world will know that a new age has dawned!

Are you ready to take your place in history, Junon?

    IMG_5064.jpg

    Behold... Eclisis!

I hold no contempt for you in my heart, but your death is necessary to fuel my advance.

    IMG_5065.jpg

    And with that, it's on.

    IMG_5068.jpg

    Charming fellow.

    IMG_5069.jpg

Zanon has a balanced force. Mages, Archers, Cavalry, and Soldiers. Nothing hard hitting, but not really pushovers either.

Yuri's first up, so Rudger goes to meet...

    IMG_5070.jpg

Those of you expecting more Rudger flirt techniques might find yourself disappointed. That's a guy.

(It gets weirder than that, believe me.)

His soldiers are more than enough to take out the mage brigade, so I let him take care of Valtarna as well.

(No customized intro with her, for some odd reason.)

    IMG_5073.jpg

It was close, but his attack and HP won out in the end.

    IMG_5077.jpg

    Cavalry against Soldiers. No contest.

    IMG_5078.jpg

Who? Seriously, I have no idea who he's referring to. Ah, the 90's.

    And last but not least,

    IMG_5080.jpg

As I said, I like a personal touch for the epic battles.

    IMG_5081.jpg

And this is going to be one.

    IMG_5082.jpg

A proper greeting from Junon to get us started.

    IMG_5083.jpg

It's a good start for the troops, but we're nowhere near done with Zanon.

    IMG_5084.jpg

He's got plenty tricks of his own.

    IMG_5085.jpg

And he can take a lot of hits.

    IMG_5088.jpg

It's not really his health, it's the influence of Eclisis. It gives him enough durability to take out Junon's entire army single-handed, and then some.

    IMG_5089.jpg

A Thunder Fall casting also helps him along there.

    IMG_5090.jpg

    So it comes to this.

    IMG_5091.jpg

    She'll certainly try her best.

    IMG_5092.jpg

    This could hurt.

    IMG_5093.jpg

    But this will hurt more.

    IMG_5094.jpg

    Way, way too close.

    IMG_5095.jpg

    That's a relief.

    IMG_5096.jpg

    Wait, what?

    zanon.png
But the power of Eclisis is immortal! It is forever!

    That's cheap.

    IMG_5100.jpg

Well, that was an epic waste of time.

    IMG_5101.jpg

Zanon's forces all escape. Wounded, but not in our jails, that's for sure.

We could wait and fight them again, but it's a waste of time while he still has Eclisis, so we move on.

    IMG_5105.jpg

    Next time, Goldark...

    IMG_5107.jpg

    [junon.png
Why, Muriko, what's the matter? You look positively green!

    muriko.png
I found the passage concerning the evil sword Eclisis in one of the ancient tomes in the library.

According to the book, Eclisis is the soul of a fiend bound and forged into a sword.

The Sword of Darkness. Once made, it was trained to serve an evil high-mage. It will eventually control the will and spirit of its owner.

It will continue killing for blood without consideration for the character of its victims. It kills friend and foe alike once it has consumed the soul of its master.

    IMG_5108.jpg

    muriko.png
Once, the great wise man, Frest, tried to destroy it. But Eclisis was so full of evil and hatred that it eluded all attempts to break, bend, or melt it.

Instead, Frest sealed it underground, away from men. That is all the book relates.

    junon.png
Such evil. It's unthinkable! Then, we can see why Zanon is so proud of his strength, like the Ogre god of old.

But how does Zanon, a human, retain control of Eclisis?

    muriko.png
He is spiritually strong and has a will of iron. But Eclisis WILL eat away at his soul, little by little. And soon, his character will change to match the sword's.

    junon.png
It gives me chills. It's frightening, but true.

    muriko.png
It presents a danger to us all, Majesty.

    junon.png
We must follow Frest's example, Muriko. We must seal that evil thing away, somehow.

We've got a heavy burden ahead of us, that's for sure.

I still wonder what the mechanics behind a captured general joining you or not are. I was sad when I first got rejected by Uryll after using her extensively my first game.

My best guess is that Ardor and Uryll are still refusing like typical commanders, but without the auto-joining of Reinhart's main four. I hope they'll come around eventually, but if not, I have Vangal.

And I'm planning on doing a Tradnor campaign after this, anyway. (But not by taking the easy way out.)

Despite never having had a Saturn, I find this game intriguing. How much do your choices in combat affect the outcome of the battle? Is it mostly decided by who you send in to fight?

It's all about troop types and strategy. If I use the right strategy, I could beat an army of 100 soldiers with 30 harpies.

There's a lengthy troop alignment scheme similar to Fire Emblem's triangle, only more complex.

It's in the instruction book, fortunately, but basically:

Dragons: excellent against everything but Samurai

Archers: only effective against Harpies(they suck)

Mages: effective against Harpies, not so much against everything else, but they're stronger. Both are
great for dealing damage to commanders without fear of retaliation, since you can set them to wait right out of a general's attack range, and fire away.

    Soldiers: average.

Cavalry: above average, good for just about everything except Harpies and Dragons. Archers are supposedly good for taking them out, not that I'd try.

Harpies: second only to Dragons, only Mages, Archers, and Dragons give them a hard time, and I can still beat Dragons with Harpies.

Samurai: above average, like soldiers but better. A Dragon's worst nightmare.

Monks: above average. I could beat Dragons with them, but it'd be tough. Still better than soldiers.

Beasts: above average, also capable Dragon slayers. Great against Cavalry.

Formation is also crucial, and that's how I usually beat high odds. The AI only goes on the offense with certain strategies, so if they take a certain formation, I usually know exactly what they're about to do.

If they go into Protect, for example(the crossbow shaped one), I know they won't be moving.

So I'd use the General to take out a bunch of them with a spell, ideally Sonic Blast, then send the troops in right after it hits.

It gets frustrating when a general knows Resurrect magic, because that can really wreck a strategy.

Unless you're absolutely sure they won't get a soldier across the field, it's a good idea to use offense(70% go after the general, 30% stay behind) rather than special formation(all the army moves at once).

Soldier types are why some kingdoms are easier than others.

Tradnor, Palemoon, and Highland all have it rough. Mages, Archers, Soldiers.

Fandaria, Tristan, and Izumo are among the best, since they have above average troops that can take out most anything.

Bozack and Topaz are somewhere in the middle.

No kingdom starts with dragons, but there's a few generals who use them. Mostly demons.

There's a reason I'm gearing all the Dragon Force's weaker links up with Dragons.

    I will need them.

Are you going to do all of the campaigns, or just Junon's?

It would be nice if Sega could send the whole Sega Ages line through SCEA now while they are approve happy for the PS2

Doing all eight would take me forever. The main story events are mostly the same, each one just has different individual encounters along the way.

I might be playing Tradnor's campaign after I clear Tristan's, but that'd be more for myself than the LP, since I cleared it the boring way the first time around.

Reinhart pretty much sits back and lets Wein conquer Legendra, then Wein shows up and hands rule of everything over to him, so everyone is wildly underleveled.

And I'm not sure I'd want Dragon Force Ages to get localized without Working Designs in charge of it.

So hey, we're not done yet. Just finished Part 21. Having it up tonight would be nice, but tomorrow is more likely.

Shouldn't be long. Lots of story, light on combat.

I hope you all didn't get too attached to Zanon.

    Also, comparison request:

    VS

    muriko.png

I assume the smaller version looks better. I'll reveal the art image I got these from once this is done, since it's full of spoilers.

I've updated part 20 to include the new images.

Also, since my photobucket apparently crashed under the weight of this LP, I now have a new one, so this should be good to go from here on out.

Part 21: The Tides of Darkness
    Year 1 | Month 10 | Week 1

    IMG_5113.jpg

Plenty of awards to give out this week.
    Ayrios: 90 Harpies
    Gilette: 60 Soldiers
    Junon: 20 Dragons
    Laine: 50 Dragons
    Leon: 100 Monks
    Lone: 70 Cavalry
    Myria: 70 Mages
    Presto: 60 Cavalry
    Reinhart: 40 Dragons
    Rudger: 60 Soldiers
    Rufas: 60 Beasts
    Scar: 90 Harpies
    Teiris: 90 Dragons
    Vlad: 90 Zombies

    Presto's always appreciative.

    IMG_5116.jpg

Some good finds on the searching front, but mostly a lot of nothing.
    Magicka: Spirit Crest
    Gasparl: Astea's Ring
    Orvue: Virtuous Runes
Palemoon, Topaz, Tradnor, Crystal: Nothing :(
Highland: Strategy Runes (found by Bastion, of all people

I distributed the items as follows:
Virtuous Runes brought Laine's INT from 82 to 88.
Strategy Runes brought Piper's INT from 42 to 46
    Astea's Ring broughtVlad's Command from 88 to 96

As for the traditional prison recruitment:
    Get: Barret, Fyffer, Sylphia, Viper

Not: Ardor, Gunter, Katt, Kharhaz, Lyria, Santana, Talon, Uryll, Yuni

    IMG_5126.jpg

Right, that's what they all say.

A bit of fortification brought Galfiel's levels up by 3, and Ogrekeep's by 1. Every bit helps.

On that note, back to the field.

    IMG_5129.jpg

So we're in a little bind. Junon's army is still reeling from the fight with Zanon, and Goldark's forces are all over the place.

    IMG_5130.jpg

Also, some new arrivals, and Reinhart's back from the hospital.

So we'll have to do some cautious rearrangements.

    IMG_5132.jpg

Fortunately, the first Fandarian herald isn't much to worry about.

    IMG_5135.jpg

I send the new recruits and Reinhart away. Even wounded, nothing Junon's squadron can't handle.

    IMG_5140.jpg

    And the resident player volunteers.

    IMG_5141.jpg

    rudger.png
I love the smell of sweat in the morning.

    To battle!

Vigilance isn't quite the right word here.

    IMG_5142.jpg

Seeing how the man has no soldiers. Maybe suicidal.

    IMG_5143.jpg

I can still put him to use.

    IMG_5144.jpg

Should put a dent in Bagril's forces.

    IMG_5145.jpg

Copy cat. Not that it matters, since it's only going to hurt Rudger. Sonic Blast is no more powerful damage-wise than a vanilla Sonic Boom.

Rudger manages to bring the squad down a few notches by himself, but rather than risk hospitalization...

    IMG_5146.jpg

We'll need every able general we can get, so, off with you now.

    IMG_5149.jpg

    Gustav can handle the clean-up.

    IMG_5151.jpg

    Not much of a contest.

    IMG_5160.jpg

And one less follower for Goldark.

    IMG_5164.jpg

More new recruits, so I send them to Highland and Bastion's isolation ward to get some soldiers.

    I'll be regretting that later.

    IMG_5165.jpg

For the time being, getting Junon's squad back up to speed is priority one.

    IMG_5169.jpg

    That's a good start.

The reprieve is a short-lived one at best.

    IMG_5171.jpg

Fandaria's army is back on the move.

    IMG_5172.jpg

And this herald is a familiar one.

    IMG_5173.jpg

Goldark's coming in person. (With a squad of captives from Izumo, who didn't realize that taking on a monarch was a bad idea.)

The rest of his forces are approaching from the northeast, so I send over a few generals to keep them away from the Highland region.

    IMG_5178.jpg

They're all skeleton crews, so it's nothing a solid foundation can't handle.

    IMG_5182.jpg

No one I've used that often, but they're capable enough.

Junon & co. have recovered enough, so it's time for a second go at Lightan Castle and Zanon's brigade.

    IMG_5184.jpg

The musical chairs strategy should keep Goldark distracted long enough for Junon to make it to the west unfazed.

    IMG_5185.jpg

Meanwhile, the remnants of Fandaria's army finally start arriving.

    IMG_5188.jpg

    Just another soloist.

    IMG_5189.jpg

    Separated at birth?

    IMG_5190.jpg

    I haven't used him in a while.

    IMG_5191.jpg

Ah, Raiders. Breach wins every time. (Well, unless they're dragons or something.)

    IMG_5192.jpg

    Some support fire couldn't hurt.

    IMG_5193.jpg

The defenders can take care of the Raid squad with minimal effort.

    IMG_5194.jpg

The commander manages to put up a fight, for all the good it'll do him.

    IMG_5196.jpg

This is something I thought a commander would be smart enough to run from.

    IMG_5197.jpg

I thought wrong. Never even got a hit through.

    IMG_5202.jpg

A little late for low-tier magic like that.

    IMG_5207.jpg

    Time's flying, isn't it?

    I kept this one brief.

Just two awards to distribute, bringing Duran to 50 Soldiers and Gustav to 90 Cavalry.

    As for captives,

    bagril.png
If you can out-drink me, I may consider your request.

Junon's non-alcoholic, so Gunter joins, and that's it.

It turns out Goldark is a far more effective persuader.

    IMG_5210.jpg

All three of the captives from Izumo joined him overnight, and now they're headed our way.

The northeast crew manage to get visitors first.

    IMG_5214.jpg

    More single-faction squads.

    IMG_5215.jpg

    Nothing a war god-mage can't handle.

    IMG_5216.jpg

    Can't blame her for trying.

    IMG_5219.jpg

Odds aren't in your favor, paladin.

    IMG_5221.jpg

And this time they're using Breach against my Raid formation.

I know how to deal with Breachers.

    IMG_5222.jpg

    Through purging.

    IMG_5224.jpg

Crawford realizes his folly, but a bit too late.

    IMG_5227.jpg

The Izumo-Fandarians arrive at Highland, but before the battle, I realized my error.

    IMG_5229.jpg

That's it, I'm shipping him to Palemoon. Ideally in a pine box.

We can get him back later, hopefully dead.

    IMG_5237.jpg

    sayaka.png

...you'll be walking like an eviscerated duckling.

    There's a colorful image.

Except Ms. Ninja forgot one little thing.

    IMG_5238.jpg

To bring soldiers. Guess Fandaria's been stingy with the recruitment budget.

I'll spare most of the details. This is pretty much a slaughter waiting to happen.

    IMG_5239.jpg

Sayaka's not an Izumo commander to my knowledge(otherwise what is she doing with Fandaria?), but she's still got one of the few unique sprites.

    IMG_5240.jpg

    Total domination.

Back to more pressing manners, it's time to put Eclisis to rest.

    IMG_5241.jpg

    zanon.png
I have no mercy left in my heart for chaff like you.

    junon.png
I beg for nothing. You have become a simple servant of Eclisis, anxious to feed it the blood of innocents.

    Lay down the sword, Zanon!

    zanon.png
I do not serve Eclisis! Eclisis has made me aware of Ultimate Truth.
It is that power alone is the only thing worth having, and that power is the justice in this world.
The weak perish to feed the ambition of the strong. It is the way from the beginning.
I have merely decided to stake my claim for power. And Eclisis enables me to have anything I desire.

    junon.png
Except freedom. For though you have power, you are a slave to Eclisis.
Face it, Zanon. You are wrong. Turn back now, it's not too late!

    zanon.png
Your words will not confuse me, Junon. I have tasted power, and I shall not surrender it. It is you who must face the truth.

And that truth is that your blood shall feed Eclisis next.

    IMG_5243.jpg

    zanon.png
    What is the matter, Yuri?

    yuri.png
Zanon, I... I agree with Junon... you've changed. Eclisis has enslaved you in darkness. You must cast it aside now, while you still can!

    zanon.png
This is simply beyond belief! My own servant now rises to betray me?

    yuri.png
It is not betrayal. As a priest, I feel the dark power within the sword. It is growing, Zanon.
Soon it shall consume your entire being. Have you forgotten our original dream?

It was to establish a FREE country. Not a land serving the power of a dark sword... sacrificing citizens to keep the dream alive.

    zanon.png
But the sword is the only means we have to rule. Without it, we have not the means to control Legendra.

    yuri.png
Yes, but with it, Legendra will be enslaved. Enslaved to the ways of darkness and pain. It is no better than Madruk's foul plan. Can't you see that? Or has Eclisis blinded you to the truth?
