(Relatively) Painless ways to get videos on my iPhone

Anyone have any tried and true methods for either ripping movies/TV off DVDs and into a format I could play on my iPhone (quicktime I'm guessing). A link to some tutorial or anything would be helpful. Also converting non-quicktime videos to quicktime or whatever I need to play on said iPhone?

I've used a combination of Handbrake, MacTheRipper, and the full version of Quicktime. Using the full version of quicktime makes it very easy once you have a video file that Quicktime will play, as you simply do the "Export for iPod/iTunes/wHatever" option. Then drop it in iTunes.

Why is all of that necessary? Handbrake has presets for iPod formats.

The older version of Handbrake didn't have the presets. I didn't know about them until I updated the app a couple of days ago.

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?

So, necropost. I've given Handbrake a go, but supposedly handbrake is not so great at ripping your dvds, just converting them. Any recommendations on ripping software for the PC?

Handbrake sucks on windows, I would probably look elsewhere if you are a pc user and not mac user.

If you want to make straight rips use dvdshrink with something like anydvd.

Handbrake works great for converting DVDs. I recommend using DVD Decryptor to get the DVD over to your HD first, then using the iPhone preset to convert the DVD at around 500+kbps. It takes a little more time (about 12 mins to rip the DVD on my setup), but the end result is fabulous. PLUS: Handbrake automatically puts in chapter points (to coincide with the DVDs chapter points) into the .mp4 video, and with 1.1.3 you have the ability to utilize chapters on the iPhone!

I've tried all kinds of programs for video conversion, none have ever been as painless as Handbrake. I mean, seriously, no other program out there actually seems to understand the difference between 4:3 and fucking 16:9!
