IGN: Does this deal mean we might see Project Gotham Racing on multiple platforms now? Or does that belong to Microsoft?
Sarah Chudley: Microsoft own the Project Gotham Racing Brand, so sadly for all of us, PGR4 was our last PGR game. It's something that we're obviously sad to see end, but in a way, we feel it's a good time to be able to leave on a high with number 4, and with an amicable parting of the ways. It'd be horrible if the series became stale, and having done four iterations (and MSR before that) it's now a good time to give our racing team the chance to stretch their legs and move onto something new and exciting with our Activision racing title. And if Microsoft decides to continue with the series (and I know they're really passionate about it), then we're confident they'll find someone new who can look at it with a fresh pair of eyes. We look forward to seeing what they can do!
tl;dr - no more pgr made by bizzare, theyre making an activision racer, and microsoft has to find a new studio to make pgr games.
Hmm... both good and bad news. While I will miss the Project Gotham Racing's balance of arcade pick-up-and-play ness and sim punishment for stupidity as well as it's avoidance of X-TREEEM attitude, I also respect the desires of the crew to not focus on one exact series for the rest of their lives. Let's just hope that this new series is a worthy successor.

It's not a question of desire to make a different game, Microsoft owns the PGR brand, and thus, they can't make new PGR games.
Midtown Madness and later PGR were fun games, but IMO they'd pretty much run the course. Personally, I always thought they were fun, but not nearly as engaging or authentic as Gran Turismo, and later Forza. It's just personal preference, but I don't like "arcadey" driving games, I prefer them to be as realistic as possible. Forza and GT are a little arcadey themselves, compared to GTR and the like. But they're still a lot better than Gotham (or Need for Speed: Angry Youth Xtreme Hardcore).
An Activision racer is bound to be double xtreme hardcore, including tandem drifts off of giant skulls into burning vaginas.
Man, there was a "when genres collide" PS thread where I shopped an Aston Martin jumping off a halfpipe in Tony Hawk and put a Kudos counter in the upper corner. Wish I still had it somewhere.

I'm calling Gamestop to preorder that shit right now.
Jesus, me too. I know you were being snarky, Fatty, but tandem drifts?! Giant skulls? Burning vaginas!! All it needs now is a point system for hitting pedestrians, b-b-b-b-boost power, and cell shading.
help us ea, sega, sony, whoever makes juiced, and nintendo!
NFS (which, ProStreet's potential notwithstanding, has been crapola over the last several years), Sega Rally, Gran Turismo, Juiced (seriously, Juiced?) and Mario Kart/Excite Truck are all completely different games than PGR, a franchise which does what it does (semi-realistic but unpunishing handling + drive all super-slick-like + OMG pretty) better than most arcade racers. So yeah, there is a void here.

As long as they keep making Forza games, I don't care. The PGR games are fun, but they don't always do it for me. Test Drive Unlimited was a lot of fun...especially at the cheap price point. NFS lost me though when I started to get bonuses the stupider my car looked. There comes a point when that much vinyl can HURT the performance of your car. You know, like when you're on your 6th layer of metallic neon graphics.

IMO the TOCA Race Driver series does this.
The last entry, TRD 3, may not have the "wow" factor in terms of graphics that PGR does, but the next entry in the series (Race Driver One) is going to be using the Neon engine currently used in DiRT.
If they can tweak the physics a bit from DiRT to make them a little better, I think they'll have a nice game there.
An honest to goodness Gotham racing game would be lame, face it.

I still play MSR on a semi-regular basis, so here's hoping that Bizarre can just cheat and make a Metropolis Street Racer 2 and have the exact same gameplay as the PGR games.
Assuming they can work a deal with whoever owns the MSR name, be it Bizarre, Microsoft, or Sega.
The first order of business will be to add the Batmobile as an unlockable car, because they've been waiting years to cash in on the joke and now's the time of reckoning.
And in their heads, everyone will laugh so hard they'll forget how terrible the game is.

This is why I hate when developers announce trilogies.

Well then thank God it is a quadrilogy
I always knew quadrilogy had to be wrong since it clearly kept the 'ri' from 'tri'.
But it just sounds so much cooler.
