My buddy made the stupid mistake three years ago of going to the ATM outside a bank, taking out five hundred bucks for his rent, then walking down the street with it.
Of course, dudes were watching, and quite literally put him in the hospital.

except instead of giving him the money she sped off and told me not to do that ever

Wow dude. I guess all i can offer up is Im glad you are ok. Thats always something I try and figure when i am walking down a street. My car is litteraly packed with electronics and my wallet. My 360, laptop, externalHD, books but its all in my trunk. I make sure whatever street i park on, if i have no choice that no one is watching me open my trunk.
And I travel from LA to SF a lot so I pack it in. But Hey I am glad you are not hurt man. Never been mugged but jesus

And just a couple of days ago, I was drinking with a friend and pondering how we'd react in life-threatening situations. Turns out I don't give a fuck. Stone cold pro.
One time me and my dad were walking in town at noon when some guy (who looked like he was on meth) points a knife at my dad and yells "gimmie your fucking money" but this dude looked real weak, and my dad is quite strong, so my dad just stood there, not saying anything and glaring at the dude. The mugger started trembling and ran away.
Giving muggers all your shit is just proper risk management.
the way i see it, unless they are hooded and everything, you saw their faces and everything
they can still be caught easily unless you disappear, then it will just take a bit longer
and i'd rather stand a 1% chance of keeping everything i like a 98% chance to keep everything but be really injured and a 1% chance of those guys getting death penalty because i am the dumbest
though i have no idea how I'll react in said situation

This kind of thread makes me nervious to live in a city in the area between the nice part and the slums.
Man how would anyone react to this. I mean, okay. You could be sarcastic and try and talk your way out of it. But, risk getting stabbed. them running away and police finding no evidence or way to find these guys if they have no preirs

I think you made the right choice, Pooro. Rent money be damned, as someone who also writes on the side, loosing your work is like loosing a part of you. Trust me. I lost like a year's worth of material once due to computer issues. I couldn't write again for months after.
He also lives on the border of tijuana. It is standard to have decoy everything because its pretty much give and take over there, Not so much with the giving
