I'm applying for the position of "Email Campaign Co-ordinator" (sounds like spam/newsletters to me, but they were looking for someone who can use HTML and Photoshop, so fuck it). It's with a recruitment agency, which I swore I'd avoid after the last one offered me a job as a "Graphic Designer" in Kwik Fit Insurance...which turned out to be a complete falacy, as I was dumped in the mail room.
Any advice with dealing with these people? He replied five minutes after I applied for the job, so signs are promising. Having said that, I got the impression that the guy interviewing me didn't really know what he was talking about...

Recruitment consultants often operate on a hire everyone/fire almost everyone basis, which stems from the fact that its almost impossible to predict who will be a good recruitment agent. This hiring policy often spills out into hiring for non frontline roles. To impress make sure to emphasise how you will want to get straight down to work when you arrive, and think that any required training/adjustment is best done while you are doing real work. They are fast moving places with little time for bringing new people up to speed and they want employees who can work in such a pressurised environment of targets and percentages.

Speak to your recruitment agent. They want you to get this job and will likely have hired people to the company before, they will know who has suceeded and who has failed.
Having read the job description again...it doesn't actually make it clear if it's a) or b). Although I'm pretty sure, from the guy's tone over the phone, that it was b).
(From your description of "a)" I'd think I'd prefer "b)" ).
Could be bullshit and a good way to call them out on it is to ask for location of the job and what are their benefits? Sounds like one of the recruiting types that get paid to find bodies for other employers and I stay away from those kinds myself too.

Yeah, I had that happen to me earlier today. It was like giving your number to a girl on a Friday night and acquiring 5 unprompted texts before Whigfield. Stay away!
Having said that, it's hard finding jobs like this that don't require you to go through a recruitment agency. I don't want to hijack the thread but should I be looking for actual design companies and going straight to them?
