Steam/TF2 trouble

So, I recently added a second monitor to my computer, and I just now tried playing Half life 2 for the first time since I added it. It loads up for a while, the screen flickers like it's changing to the game's resolution, and then crashes back to desktop with no error message. CSS does the same thing, except I can see a little bit of the menu screen before it crashes back out. I tried updating my video drivers, and that didn't fix it. I've also tried disabling one of the monitors, which also didn't fix it.

Ideas?

    Hmm. Looks like directx got lost somewhere. Hang on.
