It wasn't that bad, just a bit repetitive for a while. I liked the inside-hallway fights with all the Brutes.
My Legendary + 11 Skulls (no Iron, Blind) run of Crow's Nest was a 3 hour, 213 death experience of brutal rape. Pun intended.
For reference, I have traversed the entirety of Halo 2 on Legendary solo. Hiding and waiting for shield recharge is a happy dream from the past what with Black Eye and Catch turned on.
the good thing about Catch though, you got plenty of Spike Nades to strip the Brutses with.
The only bit I really find frustrating in Halo 3 is Cortana and the two Scarabs bit. Purely because half the time it's luck if you defeat them. The first one is always easy, the problem is being able to get back to your equipment. Half the time I'll return to my Hornet which I've left on the scarab it wont flip properly so I board it, or if I leave it on the ground it'll be destroyed by the other scarab, if I take the tank when I leave it on the ground I find that when I return to it some twit has jumped into the drivers seat and has driven it directly under the scarab and got it stuck there so again I'm without euipment.
I wish there was a way to radio the hornets (or any vehicle) to come over to you and give you a lift.
I always sacrifice the hornet to board the first scarab, blow it up, jump to the ground and pray for a marine driving a mongoose/warthog to still be alive and come pick me up.
Other than that, you can try to run run run back to the hills and hope the ghosts/prowlers don't get you.
There's a little bit of finesse required, but you can just shoot hornet missiles into the power grid on the scarabs. I never leave the hornet on that fight.

On the whole two scarabs level, whatever it was, I had the odd bug of boarding either of them fast with a hornet and on the third hit of killing it, being flung violently into the sky, alive, at the speed of sound, before hitting a very far side of the level and dying brutally. Then there was the one time it threw me off so far and hard I ignored the level and flew into endless space.

drops bubble shield on one side of the man cannon. throws plasma grenade into man cannon, grenade flies across to other side, ricochets off the top of the bubble shield, lands in the opposite man cannon, flies back, sticks a guy who is halfway across from the other side in mid air.
Edit: Wait, thats a different one.
That one is rocket is fired, grenade explodes seconds before it hits the ground, rocket spirals out of control and flies halfway across the map hitting two enemy players the second they spawn for a double kill.
Yeah you can blow up the scarabs from the hornet with really no issues. I tend to blow up the legs so it stops turning then just fire rockets at its ass until it falls off. That opens up the self-destruct area to an easy kill.
For Halo 1 & 2, my friend and I always argued about who was holding who back. We finally turned on scoring with 3 to find out. I got 8 times his score. We're going through a rocky patch now.

So does anyone know how to unlock the last pair of Elite Shoulders (5 of 5)? I have every single piece of armor including the full security suit and the katana but this last pair of shoulders isn't unlocked.
It says that it's a multiplayer unlock but unless its related to getting a certain medal I don't have, or reaching a certain rank I've done everything else there is to do.
I've looked online but right now finding out how to unlock armor is a lesson in frustration since every site has different info, some from pre- and from post-release, but never all of it and never completely accurate.

Question regarding campaign finishing achievements. Thanks to a mix of Legendary coop on the last few missions and normal solo on others I have credit for beating the game on Normal. If I were to finish the missions I do not have Legendary credit for on Heroic, would I get the achievement for beating game on Heroic? Does that even make sense? I can't do Legendary alone because I suck and Halo 3 is pretty much dead to most of my friends now.

Yes, the achievements are retro active (I believe they even say as much if you look them up)
So I'm playing solo and I see a grunt running around the area with two blue glowing dots on it. I think, what the hell, then get distracted. The grunt continues running around, eventually heading straight at me from the side after about ten seconds or so. Just before he explodes and kills me I realize he's had two plasma grenades stuck to him the entire time. Pretty rad :P

He was doing a suicide run, it's actually pretty fucking common (and horrible when you are doing a famine run and you are out of amunition and you only picked up a plasma pistol and it isn't bringing the fucker down).

Valhalla: Warthog gun is used to knock a fusion coil into a mancannon, sending it halfway across the map and onto the unlucky player.
Theater mode is awesome
My new favorite when I just want to jump in to a game.

It fucking sucks (worse) when you get in the 40s. Most games consist of people crouch-walking around corners with shotguns and hammers.
I mean, I play it a lot and yet Ive still only got about 90 EXP.

This is literally the best grenade stick ever.
In that the thing he sticks the grenade to is another grenade, in mid flight, they both fly back towards the other dude and explode at head height.
