I'm a theatre major at university and am looking to expand my knowledge of good plays. I'm making an order on amazon soon and was wondering if anyone out there has any favorite plays that they like, or favorite author's.
I like Neil Simon's plays, specifically The Odd Couple and Promises, Promises. I had to memorize a monologue from the latter over the summer for class, and it's worked out really well.

I'm familiar with the Odd Couple, haven't read Promises, Promises.
To Mai-Kero: Angels in America is indeed fantastic. I'm a big fan of that kind of epic theatre. (Not Epic Theatre in the Brechtian sense of the word, but I think you get my meaning)
I'm actually wanting to read Tom Stoppard's trilogy The Coast of Utopia, but unfortunately they haven't been released in a single volume yet. At least not as far as I'm aware.
Yeah, Neil Simon's pretty awesome. Another good one by him is God's Favorite.
One of my favorite plays is The Actor's Nightmare and Sister Mary Ignatius Tells All. It's actually two one-acts - The Actor's Nightmare may be my favorite play of all time.

Fences and Joe Turner's Come and Gone, both by August Wilson, are pretty great.

Go read Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

Zoo Story is another awesome one.
