Satellite Radio: which one is best for me?

So, last week I had a rental car, and had Sirius Satellite Radio. I LOVED it! But I'm wondering which one to invest in for my actual car/home use.

Basically what are all your experiences with Satellite radio, and which do you prefer?

To tell you about myself, I'm Canadian, I am huge into Sports (NHL, MLB, Soccer (Football), not so much NFL though), I like the Rock and the Electronic/Dance type music, and enjoy listening to comedy routines as well.

That being said, which is my best choice? Which hardware is more cost effective/possibly better?

So far I'm leaning towards Sirius from the programming perspective, but I've heard that XM has an exclusive contract with the NHL. On the other hand, Sirius has BBC Radio 1, which is a huge deal to me as I lived over in London for 2 years, and really like BBC Radio 1. So I'm really torn on which I should go with.

Thanks for all your opinions/thoughts.

This may be incorrect, but I heard that the two stations were merging at some point in the near future. So you may not need to choose.

Apparently you are correct, sir. But there are major hurdles apparently and the merge may be 18 months off. Still, promising, but I guess I need to specify that I'd like to make the best decision for the short term.

I have Sirius because I am a Stern fan, a BBC fan, soccer/football fan (they broadcast Premier League matches), and an American football fan (NFL exclusive to Sirius). Their music is good also.

Sirus has NFL but really there is no point of having that anyway. Your most likely watching the game at home if your an NFL fan.

XM has baseball which is really awesome during baseball season.

I have XM and I love it. However, I have not used Sirius but have heard good things.

The difference lies in the exclusives, more than the music stations. If the BBC broadcast is important, that's probably MORE important than the NHL content, and I say that because a) sports are more visual and b) if you can find a podcast, just get a player that supports MP3s and listen to the podcast when you're jonesing for [subject].

I'd suggest sirius mostly because you've tried it out and like it. Still, getting a player with podcast support may be the best of both worlds, if you don't mind spending a little extra time sourcing the 'casts.

Any ideas on what kind of model you want? Despite still being hit or miss, I do have a soft spot in my heart for the portable recievers.
