Anyone else getting errors with this game constantly? I get

Your map differs from the server's
    Validating: 100% (and doesn't launch)
And just this morning I tried to launch it to see if I could play on Well (which was map differing last night) and it just crashes now. Didn't have the time to diagnose. I fucking hate steam.

I've downloaded the TF.gcf twice, revalidated countless times... I shouldn't have to go through all this.

Any server that was playing Well this happened on. Then I validated the files again and it worked.

This happens pretty much every day, though.

Should check on the Steam forums for help then. I can't fathom what would be causing that map issue.

Yeah I checked. (Don't ever try to search their forums btw, their captcha is just ridiculously hard to read) and people were saying that they fixed it with BIOS updates. I'm skeptical because

    a) my bios is up-to-date
    b) that doesn't really seem like it would affect how a program checks versions of a map

I might just delete my whole steam directory and start over. I shouldn't have to though. Fucking annoying.

if you want some mildly expensive but very high quality headphones, might i suggest the headsets they offer at http://www.steelseries.com/int? they have some very nice headphone/mic combos. and depending on which ones you get, you either have a retractable mic, or one that is separate from the main base that you clip on to your shirt/monitor/dogs tail.

heres a example of the ones i use (pic)
yes, i did take it from thier website / no, im not a shill. i just like their stuff.

Thanks for the heads-up on those. I'm currently using Philips HP890, which are really comfortable and have excellent sound. Unfortunately, they suffer from really poor build quality and pretty much everyone have had them develop cracks in the plastic sooner or later. They released a new model, but for some odd reason they removed the adjustable headband which made them uncomfortable.

The ones you linked a pic too look a great deal like the HP890s, unless they have worse sound quality than regular headphones I might be looking at those when I fail to patch up these. :P

When a medic accidentally ubers an enemy spy and the spy goes on a BS rampage, does the medic get points?

No, because if the medic is too dimwitted not to break the uber he doesn't deserve points.

Now, if he ubers an enemy spy, waits until the spy is about to BS someone, then switches uber to the spy's target...THAT get style points.

No I dont think so, and as soon as the spy stabs the uber turns the opposite color on the spy so if the medic doesn't stop it hes an absolute fool. And yes, you can stop ubercharging someone and ubercharge someone else or just switch to a different weapon completely.

Really though, if you're getting ready to unleash an uber you'll probably be near the action. There's no way that a heavy, soldier, or pyro would not be shooting at that time. The only time I've seen an enemy spy ubered is when the spy takes out the person the medic is targeting a split second before the medic hits the trigger.

Yeah. I'm not really worried about it. I usually don't just uber for the shit of it, but it has happened.

Last night I used it to save someone at 3 and another time to save myself at 5. I still can't break two ubers before I die though.

I haven't been ubered as much lately as a spy, but it definitely still happens. I don't think I've even been ubered after killing the medics target though. It usually happens when I'm hanging back with them before charging out and usually not a lot of people are shooting. I think it's highly situational just like a lot of stuff.

    On Ubers:

If you see your trailing medic has an Uber ready, don't wait for him to activate it. Charge in FIRST, take a few hits. If the medic hits Uber before you enter combat, you waste a good 2-5 seconds of it. Go ahead and charge in, and let him hit it once you're in the thick of it. You'll get full use of the Uber that way.

Or surprise the medic and go out of range of the uber.

Or get critted in a one shot ko from a sniper.

Or walk into a whole world of pain and sguns.

    Or the medic is afk.

Or the medic doesnt notice and gets taken out before he activates the uber.

Basically, you better make sure your medic is ready if you plan to charge in before the uber is on. A loss of 2-3 seconds is a small price to pay for not being dead.

That happened to medics tagging along with me twice last night, after that I made sure they realized "Hey! Uber is ready! I should probably use it with this soldier/heavy/pyro I'm hanging out with and get rid of this nest of enemies.

Problem with medic is that a good one can win the game for you, a bad one is actually harmful. You rely on them when they clearly are not capable and end up fucking up all the time.

I play a lot of engineer and scout, aswell as medic. I make it absolutely clear when I play medic that im helping out, voice chat helps. making sure they know when uber is ready too. I also protect myself. better to switch to needles to deal with a pesky spy or scout than keep healing the heavy and hope he notices you are under fire.

i hate medics that think that once they are in heal mode they cant go out of it. protip: you defend yourself next time.

Dustbowl promotes camping, and I am not a fan of camping. I was playing last night (well, this morning EST) and on the last two points we had to deal with 4 SGs along with two heavies spraying their guns all over the place and a demo or two that constantly threw stickies at the respawn. That map ought to have a longer trek between resup and cp.

It was the most frustrating round of my life.

Haha, I was on the defensive team on that map and that was the most fun on the last point I've ever had. I believe at one point we had pyros sitting next to our dispensers just shooting in the air to get spies that try to sneak past. Besides, you guys got through our blockade after you realized you could just uber3 heavies/demos at once and just rape our turrets. OF course, by then, there was only like, 5 minutes left in the mission. Good times.

Good times indeed. I think Meiz was the pyro just standing next to engineers stuff constantly letting out his flames of doom. Fun stuff, I've never gotten so many ubers in one round.

It was more or less to keep the demomen and the spies at bay, otherwise it would have been sheer chaos.

Another fact people seem to miss/forget is that soldier is a really good defensive class. They get more dangerous as you get closer to them, so either you move forward into their range or retreat away from the cap/int. And since they know where you're trying to get, they can better predict where you're gonna go and aim rockets accordingly.

I was an absolute monster defensive soldier in TFC and I've found that carries over very nicely into TF2.

I love not stabbing medics in order to lead them to their doom. Disguise as a soldier or something, get a medic to start healing you, and then charge into turrets that won't shoot you, but will murder the medic behind you. Sure, you don't get points, but I like to imagine the surprise on their faces when four rockets blow up with no warning. Or a heavy on your team guns them down.
