We're on AOL UK (now owned by the Carphone Warehouse, not AOL Time Warner) using some Belkin DSL modem / router, I don't know the model number. It's mostly fine but every so often the internet signal will die. The computer will still claim to be connected to the router, the lights will all still be on on the router but I won't even be able to get at the router status page. Sometimes resetting the router will fix this but other (increasingly often) it will proceed to work again but after five minutes or so the problem will reoccur until it is left for quite a length of time. There isn't, as far as I can tell, any obvious specific circumstances under which the problem arises but it seems to occur more often when more than one computer is connected. I use Firefox, others in the household use the AOL browser.
I've heard of something happening where modems blacklist known bad connections, so over time your connection slows down, disconnects and then the modem resets, clears the blacklist, and works for a while longer. Call your ISP to check for any line issues?
