Just finished it and I loved it... but that might be because I played through HL2, Ep1 and Ep2 back to back to back. Then again I loved Ep1 as well (although not as much as Ep2).

When will we see and episode 3?
After a long, looooooooong time. My guess is about maybe one-and-a-half years from the release of Ep2.
There any good levels out for it yet? Maybe a central website for them? I imagine Portal puzzles levels would be faster to make than most levels you'd see for other FPS's.

The new SDK is coming out soon. That will have the portal stuff. The problem I see will be in finding good portal levels. We'll be lucky if 1 out of 100 are worth playing. We'll have to have a portal level thread so that we can help each other out there.

I'd imagine the time would be about the same. You don't have to worry to much about textures or level assets but I'd think they'd require more testing, especially if you make complex ones that require a lot of flinging or other advanced maneuvers.
So I've been thinking about the Gman, the Vortessence, the whole concept of what the hell was behind Half-Life 1, and what exactly the Gman wants in payment. This is my theory.
In Ep2, we find out the Gman was responsible for delivering the crystal sample that eventually caused the Resonance Cascade. According to Mark Laidlaw, that crystal and the crystals in the Nihilanths chambers (and it's head; though they didn't have enough time during development to really make the Crystal in it's head look like a crystal) are supposed to be related. We also know that the Nihilanth and the Gman can occupy a similar space known to the Vortigaunts as the vortessence. My theory is that the Nihilanth, seeking a way out of Xen, hired the Gman to plant the crystal on a nearby world so that the Resonance Cascade would occur. But this begs the question of what the Nihilanth had to offer in trade. I'll get to that in a moment.
In Half-Life 2, it seems pretty obvious that the Resistance is the group that hired Gordon from the Gman. They were expecting his arrivial, had several items there were formerly in his possession, and we know Breen figured Gordon was up for hire "to the highest bidder." But this again begs the question of just what the hell the Resistance had to offer.. then it hit me.
Had the Nihilanth succeeded in it's plan, it would have had control of earth. If the resistance ultimately succeeds, it'll have control of Earth. What if the Gman (and his associates) are looking for land; dimensional real estate if it were. The Gman hires out his or his pawns services, and in exchange they give him a local for him to operate in.
As fun and varied as the theories on what everything's all about, I cannot help but remember the awesome theories people made about how they thought the Matrix trilogy would end, and what a shitfest it ended up actually being.

The Matrix never had any sequels damnit. They don't exist! Stop pretending they do.
Aw nuts I just noticed I must have been logged out of Steam while I was playing cause I only have some of the early achievements. Oh well a good reason to replay it sometime. I enjoyed it. Especially cause I played HL2, HL2:E1, and this back to back.

Just a theory though. I can't wait for Ep3.
One of my wild hunches clearly states that the Gman worked (presumably since nobody does anymore) for Aperture, which doesn't necessarily contradict any of your theory. The Gman wasn't at all displeased with Gordon's tearing up of the Nihilanth, maybe that was his plan all along, or...
yeah, I've forgotten exactly what I was going to say. It's hot, okay?
None of these theories explain precisely why the gman's npc code has a commented out description line saying "misunderstood servant of the people" in it.

I think that's just a cute play on the fact they call him g-man. Who knows, though, maybe he actually did have something to do with some human government.
This is the story of everything that has gone on since HL1 to E1. Might clear up some stuff for people.
Generic disclaimer:
Many things on that time line are opinion, not fact.
It is but one interpretation of the story, but it is a pretty fun one.
Sorry, forgot to mention that. However I do like that site because it mentions stuff from Blue Shift and Opposing Forces that I had previously forgotten.

I thought the Resistance hired Gordon from the G-Man too, until Episode 2, where it's obvious he was screwing with Alyx and Eli. Eli clearly doesn't like the G-Man at all. There's no way he's doing business one day and getting scared of the guy messing with his daughter the next.

People in desperate circumstances will do business with those they fear.
Can someone explain to me how and when the Vortigaunts went from enemies to allies?
They were originally enslaved by the Nihilanth--hence the green collars around their necks in HL. Gordon kills Nihilanth, and they're free from the Xenians. They ally with the humans to fight the "greater oppressor," the combine.

They need to update it to include the new Episode. Several things are wrong.
It also has a ton pf bs speculation. Crappy speculation.
