If you wish to add your Gametap ID to this thread I'll add it to the OP.
Also for those who didn't know, Codemasters signed a deal with Gametap stating they will release all of their games on Gametap. Hopefully setting a good precedent!

The lack of love for gametap is quite surprising really.
I hate gametap so much thanks to how badly they fuck over canada. "hey look at this list of great games we have, join up!..oh, you mean you didn't dig through 10 layers of FAQs to find out none of the good games are available in canada? olol"
im going to assume all games that could be played with 2 players either A, mean you need someone in the room or you can play online with them.. I don't really use the service as a multiplayer platform. Funny thing about that cricket game is my roomate brought a copy back from new zealand and found out the american xbox 360 wouldn't play it.

I bought the Ricky Ponting version (same game, different regional star on the cover) of that game while I was in New Zealand only to find out when I got home that my Xbox is fully unimpressed with my region code shenanigans.
Thats kinda cool I'll get to play it after all, but I wonder if it's gonna be crappy without the 360 controller.
Here's hoping they do Rugby '08 too. Some americans like those sports, and I have no idea if they even sell them in the US.
WTB: Region Free 360.
EDIT: Err yeah, I would be the roommate referenced in the previous post.

I want nothing more than Alpha online play, in any way, shape, or form.
I've played that game way too much to be limited to fighting computer AI.

You can get a wired 360 controller that'll work with your PC. They work just fine with Gametap.
There's quite a number of console and arcade games on Gametap that have online coop or head to head play. I believe all of the Metal Slug series, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and some of the Neo Geo games have a online component to it. Netplay is pretty laggy, however, due to having to sync games that were not built for such an application.
I think the service is great, I just finished Psychonauts and been playing through Beyond Good and Evil (which stalled due to the Orange Box). I can't wait to see if more Saturn games show up, because I need my Guardian Heroes and Panzer Dragoon Saga fix.
So how does Gametap work. Is it like Steam where you actually get the files and they just authenticate, or is it run through some kind of emulator?
For current era Windows PC games, it works just similar to Steam; the game is downloaded and authenticated before you can play it. Installing mods is not possible as games are stored in a single protected file that is decrypted as the game starts but the games are kept up to date to the most current version. Offline play is also not possible due to authentication as well.
For DOS and console games, they're run through the appropriate emulator. As for the emulation quantity, it appears that Gametap is using some of the more well-known emulators available to the community (with the appropriate blessings of the publisher and the emulator programmer), with some added tweaks for further compatibility/stability.
The netplay isn't bad, the matchmaking system is kind of crappy.
basically the way gametap works is you make yourself a contender for a game that has online play.
So let's say I am a SFA contender, this means anytime I'm online playing anything it will show that I am up for playing some SFA, however it will display what game I am actually playing to those who want to challenge. In many cases people will hang out in the chat room looking for fights.
The lag is much like any online play, you can have a great connection or a total shit connection.
Also gametap has good gamepad support, and I believe decent support for sticks as well.

It is also worth mentioning that those folks who sign up for gold have the ability to give out 9 accounts, which can all function on the same level as a gold account. (Only 3 can be online at any given time) but the master account has full control over them.
So if anyone who has gametap is wanting to portion out some accounts to people who may want to try it out that is an option.
I don't have an issue doing it but I need to check if you can remove people from the account etc as I have some pretty active people on mine as is.

Wait, so, effectively, I can split the cost of a Gametap gold membership with a friend, since you can create a sub-account and two can be online at the same time? Intriguing.

Yes. I have extra accounts set up for my fiancee and my mother, and all three of us can be on at the same time.

I tried it over the weekend- I think they changed it to 2 people online at one time instead of 3. Wanted to get a game of Worms Armageddon going with three of my friends...
I was thinking that as well (it's even mentioned in the article). I've got a feeling, however, that unlike the Phantom, the set-top box will be limited to classic console/arcade games, as having a system that can run PC games on the TV would have lots of limiting factors, such as resolution and having the necessary horsepower to run the latest and greatest.

Screw MMOs - ten bucks a month on this gets you almost a THOUSAND games you can play.
Plus if you subscribe for a year, it's only $5/month. I'm definitely signing up next paycheck.

As for the international players, keep in mind that license agreements with publishers (whose games might be handled by a different company in different countries) and censorship restrictions (such as in Germany) is the primary reason why you're not seeing Gametap available in your area. That said, there've been reports that Gametap will be showing up in international markets this year, with the possiblity of there being a stand alone Gametap service through a set-top box.

Also if you've got the wireless 360 controller, you can get
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelessgamingreceiver/default.htm
for $20, and it'll hook up 4 wireless 360 controllers. Gametap supports those controllers, I usually use them to play all my gametap arcade games.
