I don't have acne really, just the occasional zit and a few blackheads but I pop/pick at that shit all the time and don't have any scars. The worst so far has just been a discolored dot where a zit was, and even that went away in a few weeks. I've heard, though, that squeezing at blackheads and whatnot gives you scars, and my sister got some pretty bad acne scars when she was a teen, and still has them in her early 20's. What's the deal? Do you get scars like later, or is that not necessarily true for everyone?
From observation, if you leave a pimple be too long it may go from small to big to small to a hole in your face, which looks about the same as a chicken pox scar. Talk to your dermatologist and get some creams or pills to take care of the acne, and wash with special soap daily. Some of the popular acne wash stuff is alright, but my friends use them and it doesn't help them much. The stuff you can get from a dermatologist is much more effective. Picking at the acne can also lead to scars, but the only scars I've got are from the ones I didn't tend to, not the ones I picked off. In my case, I've had acne since 13, I'm 18 now and two tiny scars presented themselves about 6 months prior to my 18th birthday.
