You could always import a US copy.

Nah, I'll set up shop with some mates from my WoW guild, I figure a bunch of the high end raiding guilds from either faction on my server will end up on the same server. Would be cool to have a PA branch but for me it'd just be an alt gimmick.

Bah, the open beta starts the day before I leave for two weeks :(

O well, I might get one day to play.. no idea how long the beta is going to last or if they're just going to run it right up to release time.

    Speaking of all gone.

The CE edition is no longer for sale on the Ebgames and Gamestop website!

For those looking to get a copy you'll have to hope Bestbuy has them or get them elsewhere.

According to one poster all those who pre ordered will get their copies as confirmed by a call and yes they're sold out of them.

Well now, I didn't expect this already..
Funcom announced today that their upcoming MMORPG Age of Conan has gone gold.

Durham, USA – April 22, 2008 – After four years of development co-publishers Funcom and Eidos are proud to announce that Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has gone gold. One of the most highly anticipated MMO games in history is about to hit the store shelves, and the gates to the world of the mighty barbarian will soon be open to the millions of gamers around the world.

“Even though it feels like this great adventure is coming to an end, it’s really not at all. The launch is just the beginning” says Game Director/Producer Gaute Godager. “I believe we have created a game that will stand the test of time by its own accord, but we are already busy planning future features and expansions. We want to continue expanding Conan’s world for many years to come, and we have great ideas on what to do!”

After years of development and testing Age of Conan is now finally ready for prime time! To prepare for launch, tens of thousands of players have tested the Beta, enabling Funcom to polish the game prior to going live. While the game gets closer to release the anticipation for the title is also building steadily. Just last week 475.000 unique visitors went to the official Age of Conan websites, and the pre-order numbers in some important retail chains track as among the highest for any MMO launched.

“Age of Conan has been in development for a long time, as with all MMOs, but we have spent that time well and ended up with a game we are incredibly proud of,” says Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas. “Creating a game of such epic proportions is an ambitious and challenging task, but we believe we have truly succeeded in realizing the vision of the game. We simply can’t wait to let the players in and let them experience the amazing adventures we have created.

Age of Conan is consistently mentioned as one of the most anticipated PC games in development. At launch the game will have received more than thirty covers on high-profile gaming magazines across the globe and more than fifteen major awards, including numerous "Best MMO of E3" awards and the official "Best Online Game" award at the Games Convention 2007. Age of Conan is a key title in Microsoft's Games for Windows line-up, and a showcase title for nVidia. Age of Conan launches 20th of May in North America / Oceania and 23rd of May in Europe

There's going to be an open beta.

It's going to be for paid Fileplanet subscribers only, at it will be level capped at 13.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the 3-day head start.

Well, after watching the very helpful PvP movies made by keenandgraev.com, I've decided I'm going with a Dark Templar for my first character, after coming from a Paladin and Shaman in WoW, it seems like a perfect fit for PvE and PvP. It's either going to be that or a Bear Shaman.

For those who were not able to participate in the Gamespot PvP weekend (like myself), here's a link to the page where you can check out all of the PvP testing done with every class by keenandgraev.com, including Rangers pre and post-nerf):

    http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Age+of+Conan+PvP+weekend&search_type=

Overall, it appears that casters have it very rough. It'll be interesting to see how it all fairs out when the game goes live. But at any rate, I'm much much more excited for the game after watching those. I'm also glad I preordered the CE two days ago, since it appears gamestop is no longer taking preorders for it. Wouldn't be surprised if the other retailers followed suit pretty soon.

I know there was a list somewhere about pre-order information. I.E. what bonuses you can from pre-ordering where.

Anyone know where that list is? I think it used to be on the community site, but looked there, and too lazy to search through here since unless it was updated I figure it should be out of date. Mainly want to know if Best Buy, Amazon, and the now sold out GameStop are the only ones with bonuses.

    Yup

    Gamestop has the Mammoth
    Bestbuy has the rhino
    Amazon gets you the bow

Make sure you check though because the status of those pre orders may vary depending on where you order and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Gamestop oversold the CE and ran out of pre order bonuses.
    Thank you for contacting GameStop.com.

The pre order codes will be sent to stores and to online customers this
Thursday the 24th. If you pre ordered online you will receive an email
if you pre order in the store you will need to contact them. More codes
will be sent out every Thursday from now until the release date.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to respond to this
    email.

I get the feeling that mounts aren't going to be quite the same sort of financial investment that they were in WoW.

You can kill a players mount too, not sure how resurrecting them works though.

That makes me wonder somewhat, because I believe I've seen several places that GameStop is also giving a bag of the mammoth or something with their preorders.

LittleBoots, what places charge more than game price for preordering? I thought all pre-orders were either $5-$15 of the total game price paid early to reserve a copy. Or paying full price online to have it shipped the day that it is released (possibly sooner for this). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I wonder, I do agree it won't be costly. Might be a gift but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a quest reward of some type.

When a mount dies I'm guessing there is a cool down of XX time.
So what's this about an extra $5 for the early start?

It covers the three day head start plus you get an extra 10 days paid for as well.

That's included in the Gamestop pre order along with the Mammoth, it's an extra ten slotter you get to start off with.

Heh, one thing I love about this game is when some dope runs and does a combo ending in a finisher with a long wind up. And during the wind up you just double tap back and leap out of range of his swing, and watch their as he still allows himself to attack like an idiot and waste stamina.

    The horror.
I'm seeing conflicting posts on the beta boards that the in-store one doesn't have the mount either.
I've never preordered at BB in the store...maybe I'll do that tomorrow. Or see if my local GS has preorders.

Yeah, this would be about the only game I've considered rolling on an RP server for. I'm not completely read up on the lore but I should have quite of few of the original books done by the time the game launches. The hard part is tracking them down.

There are three collections out that have *everything*; Conan the Cimmerian, the Bloody Crown of Conan, and the Conquering Sword of Conan (iirc). They're on Amazon and just about any bookstore.

Also, read the Solomon Kane stories. In some ways, I think they're even better than Conan.

Also, I don't think Xotli was in the original Howard stories.

I haven't. I really, really love the original books, but not so much because of the world. Howard's writing is engaging in the same way as an incredibly attractive woman is... when you've downed seven or eight beers. At a metal show. In the pit.

His words are visceral and intense in a way words have no right to be.

I highly recommend first volume of the Conan comics by Dark Horse, the official title is Conan: The Frost-Giants Daughter and Other Stories, by Kurt Busiek and Cary Nord. The art is absolutely gorgeous, and the comic doesn't shy away from the graphic nature of the Conan mythos :^:

    * The cover of issue #0

    conanzv2.jpg

It's pretty recent, published in 2004. Dark Horse is still going with, I believe, three separate Conan series right now. I honestly haven't been keeping up, but that initial relaunch that I recommended above was very well done. The second volume is just as good, albeit it kind of steers away from the normal Conan story-types and comes off more as a mystery-esque storyline, but still worth checking out :)

I watched the first one earlier, was good stuff, even if he barely scratches the surface of the combats depth in it.

And yeah, the flag carrier running slower is key. Especially when you tack snares, roots, stuns etc on top of the flag carrier. You need your team to successfully run the flag (either actually protecting you, or distracting the enemy team like in the first video.)

He didn't show off one of the more fun things that you can do on that particular CTF level, which using knock back moves when you are up where the flag is to knock people off to their deaths. It makes positioning very, very important.

I second Kurt Busiek's run on Conan for the major fact that the stories he did were in fact comic book adapations of material originally written by Howard, they are taken from his stories and put into a visual medium. You can tell Busiek really honored him when putting the stories and novels in a way that would work in a comic book format and stay completely true to the original stories as well.
