Impulse preorder get! At least I was able to convince myself that I don't need a drinking cape. Still not sure how I managed that.
So am I not going to have much fun if I don't enjoy PvP? I'm willing to give it a shot but I never enjoyed it much in WoW.
I believe AoC includes a lot of PvE content as well as PvP content. Birds whispering in my ear tell me that the PvE content is a lot more polished than the PvP content too, so you should have something for you to enjoy in this game as well.
Is there a way to buy it online and forego the physical copies of the discs? Like a steam purchase? I haven't seen anything like it on their site just yet
I want to buy the american version, but I'm from Europe, so a download option without having to import the box and stuff would be awesome

I'm sure there eventually will be, but I wouldn't count on a non-preorder-early-start client for download being available at launch. The size of the game is HUGE and as is they are charging pre-order customers an extra $5 to download the client for the early start.
But I'm sure it won't be too long before they cut a deal with online games distro (direct2drive or steam (I can wish?)). Or maybe, if the game does well enough they'll host it them selves?
I dunno.

Goddamnit how are you supposed to choose between a rhino and a mammoth!
Wellllllll, from what I heard from watching the movies a Rhino is supposed to be a anti-infantry PVP mount, it can charge through people and such and the Mammoth is a anti-building mount, used to help take down walls..
and such
But these are just things I've heard from watching the PVP preview videos. You don't get to use your mounts until lvl40 and who knows what they'll have changed by then.

Yeah given what I've read I have a feeling that horses will be the most used, and have more variety in appearance/stats anyway. But still if you're going to get a vanity mount, that's a hard choice.
Been checkin out BetaLeaks for a couple weeks scowering thier forums for tiny morsels of dev goodness and I have been met with a banquet. This game is the Tits. Like hawtsaus drenched thongs. It.. Its... Its just beautiful. I just preorderd and am salivating profusely.
Also something a bit off topic:
While I was checkin' out the forum guidelines and I have to say we need an ammendment to PA's formum policy stat.
Just look at #3 under GENERAL RULES and GUIDELINES for the REST http://betaleaks.com/forums/announcement.php?f=2&a=2

So for those of you who didn't register: I went and took a look, and while there is some pretty handy write-ups in there, I'd say you'd glean about solid info from about 10% of the posts. It's mostly a giant bitch-fest about how there's more skill in WoW, AoC Sucks compared to WAR, OMG AoC ate my computer, etc...
To summarize: most of these people seem to have taken part in the PvP beta weekend, and while there's a lot of praise for the game, it's easy to get derailed in these threads from various fanboys, both for and against AoC. There are very few discussions about PvE, however. Which is what I'm most interested in, anyhow. Not that I expected there to be, since it was PvP weekend. And that's the crux of their argument, "that the PvP sucks, no you suck, NO U."
There is a very interesting theory floating in there too: I guess that someone speculates that the build used for the PvP weekend isn't the optimized "cheetah 2" engine, and rather older code with some enhanced, optimized code still on the way. Which I find difficult, since the game already went gold... unless we're expected to patch on day one... I mean, look, lets be real: I'd be crazy if I didn't expect to patch. I just want small tweaks, not a 150MB graphics engine patch... you get what I'm saying.
But by and large, the posts are ridiculous. To heap some flattery here, this is the only forum on the interwebs that I take opinions and reviews with any level of seriousness, and this forum isn't say, gameFAQs, it ain't far off. The points thrown around are totally incoherent, and seriously, more than one post devolves into a study of WoW mages and arenas. I wish I were kidding.
There are, however, some talent trees linked in there... someone involved with the game is developing an online "talent calculator" (for lack of a better term) so if you go there and look for the thread you can get an idea of what to expect. I can't get there from work and even if I did, I'm not going to copy/paste. If I had to suffer, so will you.
Also, there's lots of cool screenshots in there.
edit: oh, excuse me while I forgot to push in the clutch while I switch gears </grind> </grind> </grind>
My friend and I were SUPPOSED to get the same mount, but he went and got the rhino while I got the mammoth. Needless to say, he'll get places faster than I... but I hope not by much. Anyone read about mount speeds? Percentage based?
The PvP weekend came and went before the game went gold.
The PvP weekend build probably went gold long before the final build of the game did.
And yeah, people seem to either love or hate the combat. There's a definite learning curve to it, and I think it will really shine once people get to spend some time with it. People were basically running around having no clue what was going on for the most part. I'm sure that the people that the combat clicked for found the PvP enjoyable, and those who didn't found it miserable as they were slaughtered.
I mean, I know I could walk circles around some players that I fought, and that must have just been frustrating for them.
There were some PvP videos linked from betaleaks that we're actually really good. The person who did commentary was very good and made valid points. Basically what he said was that the two things he noticed about pvp so far is that 1) You have to stick together as a group, the people who just run out one by one and get slaughtered are the ones bitching that the PvP sucks, he says that if you stay in a group and fight other groups the PvP is pretty balanced for beta and makes for fun battles. and 2) (the best point he made) is that the people in the PvP weekend have never played the game before, they're thrown into the game with lvl 20 characters that they didn't play to level 20 so they really have no idea how to play the characters or the game, and giving any creditability to one of these people about their opinion on of the game would be dumb.
I'll try and find the videos and link them if I can.
As for the "unoptimized code" stuff. This talk always gets thrown around for games during beta and launch to excuse crappy performance. Whether its actually true or not I don't know because its been said so many times about so many other games I just ignore it now. IMO the game will run worse at launch than it will, say a year down the line. That seems how most games (even non MMO) work. This is of course because they will (hopefully) be constantly tweaking performance with each patch.

They must have an incredibly tiny userbase with such crazy rules. Don't be an asshat. Good luck with that on the Internet.
Oh, also, none of your characters skill points were spent at creation. So most people were probably running around with no points in sneak, perception, climbing, concentration (for spell interruption) and the like.
I went ahead and pre-ordered a collectors edition. I'm hoping I enjoy the real time aspects of combat and such. The psuedo realtime/turn based style every other MMo has is getting long in the tooth. Hopefully it will make it more immersive.
I never did get into beta.
I think I'll go pre-order a copy from best Buy anyway, just so I can have a rhino in case I end up buying the game at some point.
What's the cost of respec'ing feats? Is it always free? On a cooldown?
It was free whenever you wanted to during the beta. But I think there is going to be some cost in the final version. However:
“Our feat trees aren't being designed to define the character or character roles as much as they are there to help you customize your character somewhat and enhance elements you already have,†says game designer Evan Michaels. “We don’t want to punish you for making the choices that you want. We don’t want to make it so that you feel like you are less effective because you trained a certain series of feats.â€
So, maybe you'll feel like respeccing less often if that's true.
Now I'm assuming that the answer is yes, but I've been having trouble finding a concrete and confirmed answer. Does AoC officially support multiple cores?

Being able to run right into a clusterfuck of a battle with your battle rhino sounds very promising

From the posts there mosty people seem to ignore that rule. Also isn't linking that site kinda against the rules of this forum?
