As of late i've encountered a strange problem with my PCs monitor. At times I will power the monitor on and the screen will flicker briefly and go black. So for example if I had PA up, i'd see the page for a split second then nothing. The only remedies i've found to this problem have been a solid bonk to the monitor (terrible idea from frustration) or simply waiting a while and trying again.
On another occasion the monitor turned on but was so dim I was only able to distinguish the faintest glimpses of the screen. Is this a common problem with aging monitors? Is there anything I can do to prolong this screens life span?
Sounds like the power connectors inside of the monitor are coming loose some how. You could probably open it up and fix that pretty easily. It's my understanding that LCD monitors are much less dangerous to work on than CRT's meaning you won't kill yourself if you touch the wrong thing. I've opened up a couple of LCD monitors for modding and never shocked myself but I'm no expert though so don't get angry at me if you do end up killing yourself.
Edit: I totally didn't get the part about flickering at first - It's probably the backlight dying.
