This miniseries is probably the pride and joy of my not-so-big collection. There really isn't a single bad thing about it.

    I got the first two.

JMS is just too wordy and pretentious for me.

Stop telling me what I'm supposed to be feeling three times a panel.

I'll admit the last one had me a bit misty eyed too. I've only recently just gotten back into buying comics after a 4 year stint where I lost interest. Unfortunately sometime during those 4 years my parents sold my comics in a garage sale. I lost my whole surfer collection and the whole infinity gauntlet/war etc. series which was a bummer. I recently picked these up with a big box of other silver surfer and warlock comics from a convention in Calgary recently.

So what have i missed in the last 4 years? any suggestions on some new material to read?

The one with that war/religion scenario was so hamfisted it ruined the rest of the series for me.

Explain? That issue was one of the best I thought.

    I read it issue 3, 4, 2 and 1 because I'm weird like that.

Didn't take much away from it, and while a little pretentious, the ending was really something. I could buy the pathos, and the art sure as hell didn't hurt.

My favorite mini-series of the year. Everything about it was breathtaking.

As for somethings you should check out:
Ultimate Spider-Man (I for one say you can't go wrong with anything from this)
    Planet Hulk
    Justice Society of America
    All Star Batman and Robin
ONLY the main trade of Civil War just to give you background on what is going on
    The Dark Tower mini series
    Nextwave Agents of H.A.T.E.
    Flight Vol 1-4
    The Immortal Iron Fist
    Invicible
Ultimate X-Men (Vol 5 and 6 are ace)
    Y: The Last Man
    Ex Machina
    Idenity Crisises
    Zombies Vs. Robots
    Pride of Baghdad
    Sinstro Corps
    Year One Green Arrow

Man, there are like two things I really want to tell you but they are not coming to mind. Anyway, these are some of my recent favs.

I concur with the general opinion expressed in this thread. Good mini-series, and just about every issue made me misty-eyed.

I agree it was heavyhanded and made me roll my eyes a lot, but I loved the rest of the series regardless

I think it's more or less 'The Last Silver Surfer Story'.

no, it's a marvel knights book, meaning it doesn't take place in regular 616 continuity

    Wait wait wait. . .

Then how did events from The Other get mentioned in Civil War?

The Other is in-continuity for 616.

    Surfer Requiem is not. Explicitly.

I don't know what this Marvel Knights stuff is about, but Requiem is, as noted, like The End comics.

The Marvel Knights imprint got changed at some point during the last year or so. Now it's just for out-of-continuity miniseries, like Requiem, Spider-man : Reign and Ghost Rider : Trail of Tears
