Wiping off harddrives

So - I recently bought a laptop and am going to get rid of my PC (throwing it up on Craigslist I think).

The copy of Windows XP on the desktop is frankly not legit (I'm proud to say I'm now 100% legal) so I'm going to wipe the harddrive completely clean and sell it barebones.

So - once I get all my photos and vital files off the desktop what is the easiest way to wipe it off entirely? Is there a boot disc maker I should use or some method to give the buyer a fresh start?

Seconded. DBAN will remove stuff to DoD-standard levels of deletedness, overwriting the entire harddrive with several passes of random data.

Thank you so much - I wasn't as worried about them finding that I at one point had a porn stash - more just wanted to make sure they didn't get my dubious copy of Windows :)
