My new guild is just starting on Vashj, which was also incidentally the first time I ever zoned into SSC. I only managed to wipe the raid once in phase 2, when I kept hitting my banish button instead of my throw the core macro and a ton of elementals got by me. Once our other locks figure out how to kite striders (thankfully I'm not specced for that job), I think we'll have phase 2 down and can start wiping to sporebat puke instead of to striders running through the center of the platform. I think I'm going to bring along 60 soul shards for our next attempt, I brought 50 last time and it was almost not enough between summons, demons, healthstones, and the occasional non-refunded shadowburn.
This thread has turned into the Raid Discussion thread. :P
Hope: new server on monday. Lets hope it's not as asstastic as the one I'm on now. Though, that really isn't possible anyway.
Happiness: Netherwing rep is so freaking easy to get it's not funny. I suppose if you had trash luck with egg drops it could suck but damn. I got my epic mount this morning (well, technically yesterday now) and I'm already 3000/6000 to honored with a couple quests still to do. Honored > revered isn't much harder with all the races and other quests, you get damn near 6k on the first day of Honored too. Revered > Exalted takes a bit longer but by that point you have access to like a dozen netherwing dailys and eggs still.
Hate: WTF won't people team up for dailys. Its annoying as shit to be fighting 10 other horde for demons/flayers when if we just freaking teamed up we could all get the quests done in like 10 seconds. But instead it's cutthroat and it makes it take forever for everyone to finish their quests waiting on spawns.
As far as I recall, you can get Soul Shards from the elementals, for an endless supply
This is true, I noticed I was getting refunded from shadowburning them (good fucking thing, too, or I would have been spent after about five tries), so Drain Soul should work. It was definitely something I was going to try working in the next time I was along for Vashj.
I'm still going to lug 60+ soul shards in my bags, though, just because. I think I'll shoot for having exactly one bag space open when I start attempts after loading up on water and food, and hope nobody tosses me a heavy leather ball while I'm not looking.

Yeah, assuming you're on strider duty, just run over and get four or five right at the start of phase 2. Should have plenty of time before you have to look for the strider.
Oh, I see you're on elementals. Should be really easy to farm all the shards you need from them, then.
You think having to farm up 50 of them before a night of Vashj attempts sucks, by the way, until you get to Kael with his six pulls of annoying trash. Then you can farm shards from them, but you'll pine for the days of farming level 63 mobs for ten minutes and just doing boss attempts for a night.
As an aside, you ought to give strider kiting a try. I'm our raids' resident "aff nub 4 lyfe," and man, it just feels like that fight was meant for me.

LOL, right now every warlock besides me wants to be Affliction until some absurd amount of spell damage and crit, so I'm about the only one that can't try strider kiting. I really ought to go back to Affliction until I get the gear to justify the spec, except I can't without someone else going Destro or Demo (which happens on Leo, but that's like one fight on one night, after which our Leo tank goes back to Affliction). We're running into debuff count issues as it is without me adding another 3-4 to the mix.
We've had such horrible problems with SCHEDULING that we've been "working on Kael" for more than a month now, but combined had maybe three or four nights' of attempts on him, mostly not whole nights but two hours here and there. A second Alliance guild beat us to him by going full-on all night for a week or more, and for being able to do that they certainly deserved the kill, but I know if we hadn't had our usual attendance issues we'd have had him down three weeks ago. Sigh.
Last night we had ~20 minutes left before trash respawn, at which point we were going to leave to go do Gruul/Mag because a mage was going to have to leave in less than an hour and we had no replacement and didn't want people to have to reclear trash and waste flasks on one or two more attempts. I started getting all emo and we began our last attempt. And miraculously, nothing retarded happened in phase 1. Or phase 2. And then phase three like one person died. It was amazing! Phase 4 was a bit messy, and I managed to get myself fucking Pyroblasted for 20k and died ingloriously, but we got to phase 5 for the first time and no one fucked up, and he was dead, and we looted vials. I lost the roll for the Verdant Sphere by one person. Oh well. We have to kill him a few more times for other people's keys, so we'll see.
Then we went to Hyjal and one-shot Rage Winterchill. JUST BARELY.
...dying early, so bad for one's DPS. ;__;
So yeah, keyed for BT.
Edit: Afterward we let everyone take alts to Gruul's Lair to celebrate and my druid got two-piece tier 4. Like 800 HP and 150 +healing worth of upgrades. Haha.

Hate: I log in for 30 minutes at a time, looking for a 5-man group -- or even a Heroic group, but I rarely see any and they rarely need a Rogue anyway -- and log off because I never find one. I've done every solo quest in every zone that I could, and I have a glut of eleven 5-man quests now, but even most of those are the ends of chains instead of leading to more soloable content.
I had thought, from descriptions I'd read, that reputation grinding and other things would still be soloable at 70, even if in small parts -- but even the grinding requires 5 people now. I have absolutely nothing to do. Both of my professions are maxed out, and I'm considering dropping my gathering profession for another crafting one just so that I have something to do. I farmed nine primals of various sorts yesterday just because I was so bored, and I'll probably do the same today.
I can't even farm Alchemy recipes, because Blizzard decided to put the vast fucking majority of them in either the discovery list or inside goddamn fucking instances. Thanks, Blizzard.
EDIT: Another hate, same thread but slightly more specific: Opening the LFG tool and seeing three other Rogues, one Hunter, and no one else. ... in every instance's listing. Sigh.

Does your guild not want to run any 5 mans?
Munkus Beaver on
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
We get groups of 2 or 3 together fairly often, but never make the difference. Everyone decided to roll DPS as their alts, so the only characters they want to run 5-mans with are DPSers like me. Some of them refuse to instance with me, too, because they "don't have the time to compete for drops." So, we have a glut of DPS and an absolute dearth of tanks/heals (moreso tanks in PUGs, moreso heals in /PAA groups).
EDIT: To clarify, I joined this guild after being told it was a "progression" guild -- what I didn't know was that "progression" meant that everyone levels an alt or /afks, and then raids Gruul/SSC, and then logs off. I thought progression meant that it focuses on everyone progressing through their various tasks, and helping each other along, but in reality it's just "this guild exists so that those of us at the super high-end content can do it." I guess.
Also, there's a shit-load of PvP but I hate PvP. I rolled an RP alt on the same server Dhalphir did but he's in Aussieland and works days so we only really have time together on weekends, but even then we've yet to play together and I hate leveling the alt.
Then we went to Hyjal and one-shot Rage Winterchill. JUST BARELY.
So yeah, keyed for BT.
Big rats : D
Once you get him down once, you'll be surprised how much easier it seems next time with a similar group of people. And as you've seen with 1shotting Rage, you're through to the easy loot bosses. Up until Teron and Azgalor you'll be swimming in easy mode epics \o/
A few more Kael kills and with some luck on player retention you'll never have to see him again until BT is cleared and you need something to do during the week to keep raiders on their toes : b

We have issues with play retention and attendance in general. So we'll probably be killing him more than a few times just to see everyone keyed. I really hope you're right. I've never been to a Kael raid before but listening to the 100 different flavours of wipe over vent was terrifying.
WTFHate: "Slipknotpwns," a Mage on Dark Iron whom I PUGed with tonight, caused several wipes in Shattered Halls on the trash packs before the first boss by sheep/frostbolt pulling before we laid down saps. After we cleared the boss on our second attempt -- we wiped on the first one since it was everyone else's first time, and when we asked him if the boss does anything special, he said "u'll see" (sic) -- he said after that clear, "well, my pattern didn't drop, I don't have the patience to stay," and hearthed out.
He didn't drop party though, and I said "Thanks a lot for wasting our time, fucktard," and he sent me an lol/tell saying he reported me, and how he's RL friends with a GM on this server, and how I'm in "big trouble now."
Happy: Finally downed Prince and Illhoof for the first time (personal first, not guild first).
Hate: My T4 helmet didn't drop.
Hate: Wiped several times on Nightbane. We managed to master phase 2 after obtaining further information about the mechanics, but would have problems with the transition back to phase 1 (stupid weird threat mechanics). Didn't manage to down him.
Hope: That I'll be able to down Nightbane and get my Tier 4 helmet on next week's run.

Hahahahahahaha, I've PUGed with him before. Always sheeps before I can sap. Yeah... not the most impressive of players.
Happy: Got a Staff of Infinite Mysteries off of Curator and enchanted it with 40 Spell Power. Decided I didn't like being dependent on a guildy whenever I upgrade my weapon, so I went out to farm up the Spellpower enchant. Apparently, Spell Thieves have the highest chance to drop it, and it's STILL only .06% chance. So this means The Muffin Man goes home empty handed, right?
Wrong.
About my 20th kill TOTAL(only my 7th Bash'ir Spell-Thief kill) the Enchant drops, and I pick it up, then grind my Enchanting up to 350, learn/create my Runed Adamantite Rod, and I'm now able to enchant Spellpower to my own goddamn weapons.
Happy: My guild seems to have gotten over their slump and downed Aran tonight.
Happy: We downed Prince, too!
Hate: The Mindblade dropped and a Shadow Priest won it. Ew.
Happy: We One-shotted Gruul last night (Hooray Shoulders for me off Maulgar!), leaving us almost literally the ENTIRE NIGHT to go to Tempest Keep and try our hand at Void Reaver. What dropped?
2 Mantles of the Elven King
2 Primal Vortices's
A Cord of the Fire-Magus
A Healing Belt
A DPS Mail piece
That's right. SEVEN EPICS dropped off of the TRASH before Loot Reaver. Which is odd, I thought the epics came AFTER you downed him :P
Alas, we did not down Void Reaver, but it was our first attempt so no big worries!
Happy: I went from 211g, to 73g (hooray for socketing my shoulders :O), then quested in Netherstorm/did dailies, and ended the night with 280g. A net gain of nearly 70g, after after dumping 200 on the AH for gems and shit. Fucking sweet.
More Happy: Did 2 Group quests on my own. Pfft, 3-man Nether Dragon my ass. He hits for 800, is rootable, and has barely 20k HP? Sounds like a job for a Frost Mage to me!
Not to mention soloing the Socrethar's Shadow Elite mobs alone. The first one(Mogul? I think?) killed me after aggroing 3 adds but I killed him. The second one didn't even TOUCH me. Like, literally, My bubble was up the entire time, and I did not take one lick of damage.

I think the proper response would have been:

Love: Mutilate. I decided to try it, and I think it's what I've been looking for. It's great for PVP, and I think I enjoy it a lot more than Combat. I wonder if it will hold up in Arenas, though.
Hate: Five more levels. Dear God, why does this take so long. It's boring.

Lucas's Franklin Badge reflected the lightning back!

I also still don't have my handgrips or the hourglass (never seen either drop), but at this point I was just hoping to hit easy Exalted and get meself a Riftmaker. /open the LFG, see nothing but 4 Rogues in it, /alt+f4 for a while. o_x
