I need a good headset w/mic

I have already gone through 2 pairs of plantronics headsets (never again, I fucking hate plantronics) and a pair of steelsound 5H headset/mic headphones.

I want something that will fucking last. I'm talking in the $100-200 range here. I'm tired of shitty headset/mic combos. I can't really find a place to buy something like this. Anyone have any good leads?

I am also interested in the suggestions in this thread, as I need some ideas for what to ask for for Christmas. I just started playing TF2 and a mic/headset would help.

I bought the Zalman Theatre 6 headphones with mic a few months ago and absolutely love it. Each earphone has three speakers for front, mid and rear channels. It's not as great as a real six speaker system HOWEVER, it actually does make for some really nice environmental sounds. Also, it has pretty good music response if you crank the mid range of an equalizer down to zero (Otherwise it comes out tinnier than usual).

They are comfortable as hell to boot, the mic is decent. I play WoW and use TS and it's vastly superior to anything else I've used. Best part:

    $60 CDN.

    Go. Buy. Love.

    Hm, those Zalman look great...

'cept I don't have 3 headphone jacks... How would this work on my laptop?

The best I've used are ones made by Sennheiser. I had a few cheap ones that would break after a few months and then bought a $50 Sennheiser set that lasted for a much longer time. The only reason why it eventually broke was because my litte brother doesn't treat it properly. Look through the ones here.

Gotta ask. What are you doing with the headsets? Any particular part of them failing?

Regardless, I've had a Logitech USB gaming set for a year or so, and it's been stellar. Since it's USB, it acts as a separate soundcard. Especially nice for things like teamspeak. I have all the voice chat stuff going through the headset, and regular sounds going through the regular speakers. (But you don't have to)

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?

I'm curious as well. I've got an 8 year old set of plantronics headphones (they look like the dsp 500 but they are analog) that have been to hell and back that still work perfectly. Their audio response stinks - they are veiled / muffled, but they've been that way since day one.

Ah yes. Forgot about that little detail. :P Well you could always just use the 'front' male end and leave the other two dangling.

I'm using it for Vent and TF2.

My main thing is, I've gone through crappy headsets. The thing that has broken on all of them is the mic. It just stops working. I'm not treating them badly either.

I just want to stop buying headphones every goddamn year. I want them to be good sounding and have a mic built in.
