[Defcon] Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

This was made in SE++ by accident , but I was advised to just let the other one die and remake it here...
I picked this up on a whim after hearing good things about it and having a bit of extra cash. Holy shit, this game is awesome.
This is simulated thermonuclear war. You take control of a group of countries and you nuke other countries back to the stone age, before they bomb you. This game isn't about winning, its about losing the least.
Any tips on how not to suck at this would be nice too, since I've been the victim of several genocides while trying to play against the computer.
No yeah, it's a pretty great game. One of the best for backstabbing and behind-the-back play... Not that I'd know anything about that. I always try to be pretty respectable, but yeah, the forming and breaking of alliances are nuts. Also, I think it's one of the most beautiful and intriguing games of the past few years... it's just hard to stay interested. I'd use this as a screensaver any day.
I lost interest as soon as someone figured out how to abuse the ally option to launch a attack that could not be countered. I'm not against backstabbing, just this instance of it was pretty lame (depending which country you were, you might not see it coming, and there was almost nothing you could do about it).

I didn't even know this was possible, and I'm not one to go against gentlemans rules (such as no cheating or exploiting, which is what this sounds like)

I played this game almost completely non-stop for the month or so after its release, then stopped when I got caught playing it at work.
I picked it up again about 6 months later, and got my ass handed to me 6 games in a row. Apparently, I forgot how to play...

Great game, but hard to hold your attention for an extended period of time. Lots of fun mods out there though, I'm too lazy to find and link them right now.

I occasionally ge around to playing a round or two, it is quite awesome.
That has to be a custom map, that or they completely revamped the world map.
I think I'd like a link to that map.
Edit: yes, I wish there was a way to run the computers against each other on a continuous loop as that would be my perfect screensaver.
Would anybody be interested in an "Office" game starting sometime soon? Slow enough that we can all have a life and play this at the same time!
