How the hell do I share stuff on my computer with my 360?

I used to have a Windows Vista computer, and I was able to share things fine with my 360. How do I do this now with my XP computer? When I go to xbox.com/pcsetup, it asks me if I have Windows Media Explorer Player 2 (I do) and then directs me to some page where I have to download the software for Windows Media Player Version 2, which I already have, but I download it anyway, and then there isn't a link to go anywhere else for instructions on how to share the files!

tl;dr how do I share files with my 360?

    You'll need to download and install the Microsoft Zune software (it's free). Get that installed and then tell it what folders you want to add to your library (music, etc). I'm assuming your 360 is already hooked up to the network, so once you get the zune software all set up you'll need to sync the zune software with your 360. I believe to do that you just need to have your 360 on and then tell the zune software to find it on the network. If you go to the Zune site I'm sure there will be more complete instructions on how to do it.

    you don't need the zune stuff you can share right out of windows media player. I belive its in the library tab. There is a thing about sharing. Once thats on it will see your xbox360 and ask if its ok to share files to that. I'll have to check when I get home. This computer here at work has a really old media player on it.

    Ahh. I wouldn't open WMP upon the threat of death (they have some interesting things to say in the EULA for WMP), so I didn't realize it would do that. Good to know.

    I use tversity, it works infinitely better than anything else i've tried, + if your sharing video files it will automatically encode them into a format the 360 can play on the fly

    Orly? Where do I find this magic tversity?

    Also, as an extension of the original post, how do I add my 360 to my network so my PC knows it exists? I have two PC's and the 360 at my house all connecting to the internet wirelessly, how do I tell the machines that the others are there?

    I use TVersity on a dedicated media server. It's nice.

    I used TVersity before my last format, and it worked perfectly. Tried setting it up this time, and my videos play UP SIDE DOWN.

    I'm guessing it a transcode thing. Anyone with any suggestions?

    you might not have the right codec installed. Since you formated you should go and make sure you have at least Divx codec. I know the video plays upside down on my laptop since my trial for 3ivx ran out. Its really annoying since that one was free before.

    Try using ffdshow, it's free and covers all the codecs I need
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow
    ffdshow is DirectShow and VFW codec for decoding/encoding many video and audio formats, including DivX and XviD movies using libavcodec, xvid and other opensourced libraries with a rich set of postprocessing filters.

    Alright awesome, but before I set up this software, how do I set up my PC and Xbox to know of eachother's existence?

    I found this quick Howto through some Google searching

    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130160
    HOWTO: Divx Streaming & Transoding on Xbox 360
    =================================

    Here is a little guide for the inevitable wave of peeps trying to get this to work.

    Files required
    =========

    TVersity
    TVersity Xbox 360 patch
    FFdshow
    FLVSplitter

    If you use Windows Media Connect or Windows Media Player 11
    =========================================

    If you already have Windows Media Connect or Windows Media Player 11 sharing your media, you will have to disable them. Goto the 360 and remove the PC from the System tab->Computers. Unistall Windows Media Connect and/or disable sharing in WMP 11.

    Instructions
    =======

    On the PC (in my case Windows Vista x64):

    1) Install TVersity
    2) Make sure the TVersity service is stopped
    3) Overwrite the TVersity files with the 360 patch
    4) Install ffdshow and flvsplitter (extract to a useful folder e.g. C:\Windows\system32, use a command prompt to install: regsvr32 flvsplitter.ax)
    5) Goto: http://localhost:41952/
    6) Add the folder you would like to share under the sharing tab by using "Add folder" on the file menu. Change the device to "Xbox 360" in the settings tab.
    7) Reboot

    On the 360:

    1) Goto the blue "Media" tab
    2) Goto video - Computer
    3) Connect to TVersity on XPC
    4) You may need to go back and forward, to refresh list first time
    5) Play a DIVX!

    Other codecs
    ========

    The only codecs I have installed are: ffdshow, flvsplitter, vsfilter, quicktime alternative and real alternative.

    Unofficial known issues
    ===============

    350mb AVIs work straight away, 700mb AVIs require me to load them twice on the 360 (it will say timed out or whatever), just try it again.

    Some files will fail to work because the filename is too long - so try shortening it.

    Thanks for all your hard work guys, keep it up Very Happy

    Finally DivX on 360 thanks to TVersity

    Edit: I didn't use the FLVsplitter as it isn't relevant to anything I needed to watch.
