According to the new 1up Yours podcast, Mark McDonald announced that he's leaving the show. But the big news is that he said he's going to Bioware to work on the just announced (he said he was holding the press release in his hands) Halo RPG, called according to him Halo Origins Volume 1: The Forerunner Chronicles.
Did I miss something huge, or is this not been announced yet?
But sonic is populated with technicolor animals that like to fight tons of enemies.
I can imagine a sonic RPG.
But Halo... what, basically Halo Wars but on a smaller scale with random battles and stats?

Well, Ensemble is making a Halo RTS, and even though they're Microsoft-owned, it's more outsourcing than the series has seen thus-far. It's pretty plausable, although I wouldn't put it passed them to make a goofy rumor on Mark's last official show.
I hope it is true, simply because more Bioware RPGs = happy Kami.
You go around, shooting enemies and gain experience, unlocking new levels that allow you stronger weapons to kill tougher enemies to gain more "experience" which further unlocks more weapons and more innate abilities "resistance to falling, or bullets, etc" and finally you find out that mother brain was behind it all.

Or maybe like that Mass Effect thing.
Who's making that again?
But that's different. It'd be a 3rd person Halo game with stats then?
I don't quite see how this is going to pan out...

I'm trying to think of Bioware RPGs with more than a few random battles.

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 and Icewind Dale 1 & 2
Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 do have random encounters, but they tend to only happen while traveling between areas and in the context of their world, they make perfect sense, especially given the game system they're based on. Faerun isn't a safe place to travel around. Any game where it wouldn't have made sense, the random encounters aren't there.
The Icewind Dale series BioWare didn't have anything to do with except that they had made the engine that Black Isle used to make the games and offered technical assistance.
And a more Mass Effect like approach to a Halo RPG could work. Contrary to popular belief, JRPGs aren't the only way to make RPGs.

There weren't many random battles in Baldur's Gate 2.

I don't believe there are any random battles at all, actually.

There was the occasional bandit or two when moving between towns and districts and when sleeping. However, all of those make sense and could easily be taken out of the game without affecting the gameplay that much.
Alright Mark says later in the show that he was joking about the whole thing. He even typed up a fake three page press release about it for the other three on the show and they actually believed him.

I'LL MISS YOU MARK
Eh, Mark got me, just like he wanted.
Still, he had Shane, Garnett and John fooled, so I don't feel too stupid.
But I'll echo the 'well played Mark, well played."
I have heard that Bioware-developed games are not very good, particularly Jade Empire, but they seem to have a solid reputation around here. Where would be a good starting point, if I was to get into them, and is this even worthwhile?

KoToR. Even if you're not into Star Wars it's pretty awesome.

That is the one with the branching storylines yes? I will rent it soon, though my Star Wars fandom is negligible and kind of limited to Empire Strikes Back.

Play KOTOR. You don't need to know shit about star wars except that Jedi carry lightsabres and are badass.
Jade Empire was over-hyped and over-reviewed. It was a well built game, but the story and the combat were pretty lame.
I like the Halo Universe, and some of the Novels, but eh, the games have gone too stale for my tastes.
Unfortunately, it seems the Master Chief is everywhere. I mean, if Halo wasn't such a huge fan fuck fest, it would be way cooler, but no, Microsoft has to go out make a Halo 3 360 and Zune... >_>

Overwhelming support for playing KOTOR. I will, soon. I think most of the Bioware criticism I heard was directed at Jade Empire, by the by.

edit - bruin ruined it.
How would a Sonic RPG work?
But I doubt this is true.
here is the podcast, the forst 4 minutes is about it, listen for yourself.
And it would be easy for MS to hire Bioware to make a Halo game, especially now that Bungie won't be.

Yeah people.
95% of the time publishers own the ip.

I love Halo, but goddammit Bioware, make with the KOTOR 3.

They are making like 9 games now (unnamed MMO, Mass Effect, Sonic RPG, Dragon Age, maybe more I don't even know of). This is still BS though.
