Dragon quest Monsters: Joker

edited November 2007 in Games and Technology
I haven't seen any real threads for this game in awhile, So I thought i'd try making one. Only about three more weeks, and I can hardly wait! I'm still not sure as to what final monster team I want, though I'll definitely be workiing towards the Ultimate Dragon god. What teams do you guys have in mind?

Also, a new trailer is up on Gamespot, Some people say that the final "knock" at this games primary opponents is in bad taste, and wrong, though I smiled at it.

It chills me to the bone to think that somewhere on the intertron someone got indignant about someone quoting pokemon.

Makes me nostalgic for DQ8. Too bad I have zero tolerance for games I've put down already.

Looking forward to it, and it definately looks ace, but I am kinda disapointed by how many monsters they cut from the GB games. I mean, it's missing whole families, and there are no boss monsters.

Do you mean actually, in-game bosses? You must because I see a ton of boss monsters in those pictures.

The Beast family has way too many demons, especially at the higher end. Was the arrangement always like this, or is this a case of DQVIII not having enough beastish monsters?

I really liked the first DQ Monsters on the GB Color back in the day, so I may have to pick this up.

Kudos to Squeenix for developing an actual battle engine for this. Pokemon is really falling behind the times in that regard.

    Not that similar.

Really the biggest thing they have in common is that you get monsters and fight with them in turn based battles. Other then that their systems are pretty different.

The original DQM was pretty much Pokemon meets dungeon crawl. There was one central town where you would battle / trade / breed / do Pokemon-ey things, and then you would step on these little transports to warp you to areas of wilderness where you'd work your way through floor after floor of (randomly generated? I don't remember) monster-filled goodness. The battles are turn-based, yeah, but it's much more similar to a DQ game than Pokemon in terms of actual battling.

It's not the Pokemon thing. They're upset because they think this will offend the pokemon crowd, and keep them from trying out this game, thus endagering any chance of seeing more DQ (Like the DS remakes) from coming over here. Frankly I think they're being silly. People have been making fun of Pokemon ever since Red and Blue, and in far bigger ways than this. This isn't even that big a jab.

im really looking forward to this game, even though im afraid of what it will do to me. i usually try to avoid games like Pokemon because they make me go insane and spend a billion hours doing whatever insane stuff you can do... but the call of a powerhouse all slime team is impossible for me to resist.

In fact, if we go by the GameFAQS list, those large slimes with the tiny faces are called Rocket Slimes.

Blue one is "Rocket Slime." Orange one is "Rocket She-slime."

I didn't realize there was already a thread on this and I created one a couple days ago, which, though it doesn't have as many posts is much cooler (I may be a little biased here).

Metal King Slime for the win! I played the hell out of the first games and a well-bred Metal King Slime was almost invincible.

On the big slimes with the small faces, morimori means "a lot" or "many", so Rocket Slime in Japan is titled "many slimes" and the fatass slimes in Joker are "a whole lotta slime." This isn't a perfect translation, but you understand what I mean.

I'll be picking this up soon.

I got mine around lunch but haven't had a chance to try it yet. The gameplay doesn't sound as fun as Pokemon; I like having a ridiculous amount of things to do in a game. This seems limited to just the monster battling aspect. And, as always, I hate the artwork. I'll give it a shot tho.
