So I've tried Summoner (whee!), Engineer (whee...), Evoker (my spells! They do nothing! My accuracy! I have none!).
What should I try next? I've never been much of a man for what Guardian seems to be, and Marksmen...well, if I wanted to be ranged I'd have a class with awesome pets. Should I try Blademaster, or do I have the wrong impression about the Pala...er, Guardian, or the Marksman?
Here's a question for ya. Take, for instance, any improvements to the blademaster's dual wield skill. What exactly does each successive improvement do? All I get is that it decreases the willpower feed by X, what on earth does that mean? (Not in beta ./sniffle)
Each item has a stat requirement, and the total requirements added over all your items can't exceed what your stats are. If you have 80 str and wear a shirt that requires 20 str, you'll have 60 left to work with once you put it on.
Swords require willpower, and mods you attach to them also increase the willpower requirement. What that skill does is add more to your willpower just in terms of equipping items. If you have a willpower of 30 and that skill reduces the willpower feed by 46, you'll be able to equip items that total up to 76 willpower required.
It makes it so you can focus on strength and stamina without gimping your ability to use swords.

To you folks who have been playing a while, are there any recommended stat point assignments ?

Jesus. There's no pleasing you s3rial. Seriously. Please... Don't buy the game. I don't want to hear you bitch about everything.
Dude, I get pissed off because of the way you've tried to monopolize this thread, like you single-handedly need to reply to every single person about every single issue, when you repeatedly fail to grasp the basic game mechanics that people are talking about (e.g. summoning elementals).
Jesus Christ, man, give it a rest. Please. You've already managed to drive most of the first couple waves of PA's beta testers out of this thread.
Yeah I'm on the fence about this game. I mean that pick that just showed the gargantuan looked awesome, and just makes me want to play and I'm a loot whore (diablo 2 was my crack) but I played the demo and I wanted to kill myself, but everyone's saying the demo was shit anyhow. Also I never had any problem with the game crashing but I've heard alot about it and I don't want to have to deal with that stuff, or my teamates dropping out of multiplayer games. Looked pretty though, and I like pretty games, I need a new rig though got an 8800gt but its on a p4 4ghz with a gig of ram so its really smooth but it will hang in new areas for a sec, doesn't make a difference what my settings are at either so I have them jacked up lol
Seconded. This thread would be miles better if people could actually complain about the problems in the game without being shat on and told not to buy it. I think alot of us were pretty pumped for the title and are just disappointed that the game appears to be a major let-down.
I certainly want to know all of the problems/design choices. Like you can't set the highest difficulty without paying the subscription. The thread's not supposed to be a strokefest.
So I have a summoner. The summoner had 6/10 in the imp fire elemental for 10% extra damage per point in it. I had +4 imp FE from items, making it 10/10. The skill description says "next level, 11/10, 110% damage bonus". when I gain a level, I would assume I can make the skill 7/10 + 4 from items = 11/10. I put my point in, and it says 10/10. Please say this is a bug. If we cant overtwink our abilties to make our characters better then just the random cookie cutter build I dont think Id purchase this........
There's a limit on the number of levels you can go above the maximum, I believe it's 3. Because you have 4, and you don't already have the maximum level of 10 with actual skill points invested, it's probably capping out. See how many elementals you can summon.
I certainly want to know all of the problems/design choices. Like you can't set the highest difficulty without paying the subscription. The thread's not supposed to be a strokefest.
It's actually really annoying for people who are interested in the game and want to discuss skills and whatnot to hear the same bullshit whinging all over again. Yes, express your opinion, that's cool. Having people come in over and over to express the same malformed opinions without any actual original thought or additional contribution is getting ridiculous.
GnomeTank's critique was cool, people coming in and saying "omg repetitive" or complaining about the demo is stupid. Urahonky has been contributing to this thread, even if he is overzealous in trying to convince people that there is more to x than they are complaining about.
If you want to know that x feature is missing from subscription, that's one thing. Coming in here and expecting a complete bitchfest about the game is not going to make anyone want to buy the game, and frankly turns me off wanting to contribute to this community.

My Guardian, VictoriaHaley, in the Test Server, has two Legendary weapons: A rifle for cabalists and a sniper rifle for Marksmen. I want some kickass legendaries for Templars in return!
Cool diggity, so is it going to have offline and online chars like d2?
Offline and online characters will be completely separate. There will be no way for you to play an offline character in any online/multiplayer fashion.
Is there a breakdown of exactly what is available in offline single player mode? I have tried to find this info to no avail. As in, how it compares to online, both elite and freeplay users. Are you basically a freeplay user but with unlimited character slots?
Well, the online freeplay is basically meant to be the online/multiplayer version of the singleplayer boxed product, so that's what my impression is. Most of the subscriber benefits are really tied to online play (shared stash, etc).
Gotcha so there is a locked online char interesting.
Yep. And they've built HGL from the ground up with the experience that Diablo 2 brought to the table in regards to cheating. Flagship have said that it'll be a big focus, to crack down on cheating as swiftly and decisively as possible. Considering some of the data mining tools that they got from EA (as in monitoring player-game interaction), I'm pretty confident that they're on the ball in that regard.

Are you saying shared stash is a subscriber only benefit? Shared stash, if anything, is even MORE important for singleplayer as you dont have anyone to help transfer items.
So they havent released any kind of comparitive feature list for singleplayer?
That makes me curious, because they haven't implied in any way that you'll have a split like USWest/East where you had to decide where to make your characters and then you were stuck there.

Welcome to the European Hellgate: London Beta Test!
Hey there! If you're receiving this email, that means one of two things:
1. You've pre-ordered Hellgate: London from one of the participating European retailers and redeemed your a beta account on the US Beta test before 6PM October 23 PDT. If this is the case, than your account information (username/password) will work on the European server as well. Also, your Dye Kit and Founders Offer is already tied to both your US and EU account, so there is no need to redeem your pre-order code again.
Note: If you have not redeemed your pre-order code yet, DO NOT LOSE IT. Any US or EU Beta accounts created from now on will need to have the code entered to have access to the Dye Kit and Founders Offer at launch.
2. You are part of the US Beta test, but did not pre-order Hellgate: London from a participating European retailer. In this case, you will need to click the link below to create a European account. Once that's done, you can log onto the European server and begin playing.
European Beta FAQ
Q: Why do I have to create a European account?
A: Well, you don't have to, but we're trying to run a few tests. The more people that play on the European server, the better our test results will be. Plus, you get to reserve your European account name before the general public!
Q: How long does the European Beta last?
A: The European Beta will end this Saturday, October 27.
Q: Do I need to download the game again?
A: Nope. Just select the European server from the server list and start playing!
Q: My login won't work on the EU site! Help!
A: Remember that both the EU and US sites/game servers have dedicated accounts. Please make sure you're using the correct one.
Q: Where are all of my characters?
A: Your US and EU accounts are completely different, so you'll need to create new ones. You cannot use a US character on an EU server, and vice versa.
That makes me curious, because they haven't implied in any way that you'll have a split like USWest/East where you had to decide where to make your characters and then you were stuck there.
I mainly assumed it, since the Test Center's getting reamed, latency-wise, by itself... I sorta figured there'd be at least a choice to spread out the initial load when it actually goes live.

Well, it makes sense but they haven't given any solid indication. =/ Their communication needs work.
I don't want to have to reroll to play with other friends who started on the 'wrong' server, which is what happened a lot with D2 and WoW. You'd hope that your character data would transfer transparently between clusters if that's the case.
So I'm already sold on the game. I absolutely love the combat, both melee and ranged. I haven't experimented much with spellcasters and summoners, but I will after release. What I need from y'all is to either sell me on the Founder's sub or dissuade me from it.
Here's the deal: I've never subscribed to an MMO before so I don't know what constant content updates are like. I loved D2 to death like many, many others, and was the type of person who had two full accounts of active characters, plus multiple mule accounts. I only have $200 to spend on the game plus either Black Friday stuff (a bigger hard drive or a fancy sound card or some other luxury) or a Founder's sub. It's also almost certain that none of my local friends will get either the Founder's sub or the regular sub.
Well, the Halloween stuff gives you a small idea of what they're planning to have for ongoing content. The game's gotten consistently better at a fair rate since I got in at the start of alpha. They have gone on record saying that pretty much all the new stuff they plan to put in will be guided by the feedback they get from subscribers.
If you see yourself playing lots and not want to have to worry about the subscription fee, plus get some bonus goodies here and there, then sign up for founder's. Otherwise just subscribe as you see fit. I'm dropping the cash on founder's.
Shulgoth (US) server is up. The forums have the maintenance page displayed. The test server is up, though. It's got some - or all? - of the patch 0 stuff. Assault Rifles feel exactly as they did in Beta 107 with weapon accuracy tech mods attached. I've also got a templar going. I respecced because transferring over to the test server rolled back my character to before chocolate park. Lots of stuff lost, which is too bad because he had just picked up the hunter class melee weapon in Temple. It's a cross between a chainsaw and a weed wacker, and I was looking forward to testing it out.
Oh well. Collecting zombot parts takes forever, and luck has to have been redone, because the Templar's got boots with +35 Luck purchased out of Covent Garden.
The voice work seems to be almost entirely redone. I'll miss crazy George...
So I've played the beta for about a day and a half straight, and I'm about to go to Chocolate Park. I like it, but... I don't know.
Let me explain my situation first; I've said this before, but bear with me. I was a huge fan of Diablo, but I hated Diablo 2 - mostly because I won't touch the multiplayer with a 5-foot pole, and in Diablo 2, the multiplayer basically shat on the singleplayer. I also didn't like the skill trees or the classes, or the graphics or the environment in general, but that's another story. I really liked Titan Quest 'cause of the awesome skill system and a return to the slightly slower-paced, atmospheric style of Diablo 1. TQ was the first hack 'n' slash I've been able to enjoy since Diablo.
So that's why I wanted to check out Hellgate - and also because Bill Roper is pretty awesome. I play a defender, because I didn't particularly care for the shooting in the demo. I'm having fun with it, but I guess the main problem is that it feels really unpolished and just extremely half-assed at times. Yeah, I'm aware it's a beta, but considering the game is less than a week away, I fail to see how they can remedy this particular sensation. The pacing is really uneven, and there is practically no atmosphere to speak of. The story/lore is a complete joke; almost literally. But I do like that it doesn't throw 45 enemies at you at once; not that my system could handle it, anyway. The fighting system and the enemies are solid, and although the skill system isn't half as interesting as that of Titan Quest, I do like it a lot better than Diablo 2's.
Like I said, though, I really don't want to play this for the multiplayer, so perhaps much of the appeal is lost on me. I just like a good dungeon crawler; not a group-based WoW/Guild Wars instance fest, and as a singleplayer experience, it feels rather fresh and exciting. It's a new way to do a hack 'n' slash, and for that it should be commended. But it just lacks a cohesive world and general polish - it still feels really archaic at times; like they tried to build on Diablo 2, but completely ignored everything that Titan Quest offered. It might just be me, but actually paying a monthly fee for this sounds like absolute insanity, but like I said, I'm not in it for the multiplayer. I really don't see it becoming the "new" Diablo, though - it's not as good as it needs to be for that to happen. At least not yet.

If you only played on the beta server, you're doing yourself a disservice and stating that they have a week to go to move on from what you played is false.
Try out the test server. A lot of things have been changed, and not just game mechanics.

Not that I'm aware of.
Although, once connecting & getting on the Test Center server, there's a new server that pops up, "Shuggoth", or something to those lines.
I'm going to *guess* that there's probably going to be a East/West coast one, at the minimum.
