We're looking to update our digital camera (Canon A80, 4 Megapixel, 3x optical zoom). We love it, but find that we want one that has a better zoom, and better speed so we get less blurry photos (3 year old kid). We've been helping a friend and need better ability to take pictures at concerts too.
We're looking at the Canon S5 IS, but frankly the Kodak z812 and z712 seem to have basically identical features for about $100 - $150 less.
Does anyone have any experience with any of these cameras? We've come to really trust Canon, but money is an object...
When comparing cameras and lenses, I like to go to http://www.steves-digicams.com/ for the reviews. He posts a lot of sample pictures too so you can compare image quality.
Already been there - no review of the z812 as it's fairly new. The Canon gets great reviews, but it's about $150 more than the Kodak. I know the Canon would be built better, but I've also read the Kodak has an amazing zoom lens.
I haven't used the z812 yet, but the 712 is a pos, and slow as hell. The S5 IS is better in every way. You'll be using the S5 a lot longer, if you can afford the extra initial investment.
