Crackdown
gameroom_crackdown_1.jpg

I did a quick search for a previous topic to resurrect and came across none so I thought a new thread may be in order!

Description
"Borrowed" from Wikipedia

Crackdown, players take the role of an Agent, a superhuman Police Officer with a range of superhuman capabilities, developed by a syndicate of law enforcement organizations known only as the Agency. The Agent's mission is to destroy the 3 organized crime syndicates that control the futuristic metropolis of Pacific City; the Central American Los Muertos, Eastern European Volk, and East Asian Shai-Gen.

Crackdown features sandbox-style gameplay similar to that in the Grand Theft Auto series, featuring co-op play in the same open environment as in the single-player mode. For example, one can start a race across the rooftops with a friend in cooperative mode. Co-op play can be played online and allows for entrance and exits by friends or other Xbox Live members. Depending on a player's settings, one can receive join requests from only friends or from everyone online.

But...it's OLD right?

Well, it's not that old but it's lost an awful lot of attention nowadays. That said now I'm back on live I've been trying all the games I've missed out on (Halo 3 etc) and one I keep coming back to is this little title. It's fun condensed on to a shiny silver disc, and it took me utterly by surprise and, I imagine, an awful lot of other people. Most folks I know that bought it, bought it for the Halo 3 beta key.

Yesterday afternoon a friend and I played through to try and finish off all the boss's I had remaining (we completed the game when he hosted last time so I still had a few to go) and the wonderful and hilarious moments all came flooding back. Like jumping up to that last platform to kill Wang, only to be greeted with a grenade in the face and to go tumbling, hundreds of feet off the edge of the building and smash painfully on the floor. Or dying whilst taking on one boss and leaving my friend there on his own, only to come to his rescue minutes later, much to his great amusement, by coming out of an elevator ten stories up in an armoured car and mowing everyone down.

The acheivements are also the most entertaining I've seen in a game, the city design is fantastic, the explosions thoroughly brutal and the driving (once you've levelled up or are in an agency car) fantastic fun. Nothing beats driving down the freeway in the agency car at full speed launching OTHER cars in to orbit.

The last update was also pretty fucking brilliant, giving you the ability to reset the city after you've completed it (without resetting your agent), the new cars were fun and the new weapons utterly awesome. I have yet to get bored harpooning villains (or innocents) to my car and then driving around with them flailing loosely off it.

So, is anyone else still playing this fantastic title or have you all moved on to bigger and better things? And if you're still playing it, does anyone fancy a game at some point?

I've actually just bought Crackdown this past Saturday as something to do whilst the girlfriend is in New York. I'm always up for some co-op fun so add me and we can bounce around kicking arse.

Well, I've promised my friend I'd complete it with him (Got ONE Volk boss left!) then I'll be resetting the game, so you guys can help me run through it again :)

And I agree, interest in this game passed really quickly but I find it just one gigantic playground and never seem to get bored with it :)

We shall help you to bulk up! If you're not at 4*s for explosives and agility yet then you should work on them. Personally I find them the most fun :)

As soon as you find a firefly (or if you join my game and pick up a firefly!) your explosives rank will increase massively!

I stole a 'Grenader' or something off one of the Leuitenants but with only 20 shots a go I haven't really wanted to try it. I guess I'll whip it out the next time I go shooting.

This was the first game I got with my Gamefly subsrciption right after getting my 360. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I liked the fact that I was able to take out 2 Shai-gen bosses by accidently stumbling on the end of their "level" just by random exploring.

Firefly. Seriously. Come to think of it, this sort of stuff is exactly why I loved the game. My favourite moment came when I was sitting on a rooftop shooting rockets into a pack of gang members. I cooked off a very large pack of cars at once and saw a few go flying into the air. At first, I was too busy killing things to pay attention to where the cars were going, but then I heard a crash from behind me. I turned around and the car was sitting on the next rooftop.

It had sailed over my head. And a block away from the explosion. And over 8 stories up.

    I love Crackdown.

Lock on with the L button and fire that grenade gun in to a pack of people. 20 shots may not seem a lot but when your explosive skills increase, the force and range of the explosions increase too and it becomes deadly!

How on earth do you scale Wang's (hehehe) building? I can get to the red similar looking building on the right and leap from there on to Wang's (hehehe) but I can't figure out where to go from there.

I had thought about getting Crackdown, but figured I would wait for GTA IV before I sunk a huge amount of time into a sandbox game.

All the talk in this thread (and playing through and having a blast in the demo) has made me reconsider.

If memory serves, Wang's is unscaleable. Gotta assault it.

I distinctly remember a time I was trying to assault a bad guy's island fortress. In the end, what happened was I gave up, swam the fuck around, scaled the cliff, and did a suicide-run with my firefly. :D That bastard went DOWN.

EDIT: Oh man, and the ramp truck...A friend and I took that sucker and just put it all over the place, running vehicles off of it. That was sooooo much fun. We got some SERIOUS hangtime.

Oh, and using the cheat-mode to spawn barrels on a line on top of a line of remote mines. That always looked awesome. I spent like an hour trying to make it perfect.

Man, I love me some Crackdown.

I haven't gotten the getting busy bonus pack, is it really worth it?

But I love keys to the city.

Infinite ammo with the Firefly and the super agent stats is damn fun!

I sat on top of one of the bridge towers once for like an hour blowing up the traffic below.

I also had fun standing on top of a moving car and just randomly shooting out tires on traffic as I was "taxi'd" around town. Was especially fun on the one big highway neat the volk area (by the rock quarry). People fly around that bend so fast, when you take out a tire they just go flying off the road.

I might have to hop on this game again tonight.

Yeah, this is a game that could live a long long time with DLC.

But I hope to see at least a sequel at some point.

I just think some people bought it, beat it, and that was that. They don't see it as a sandbox game.... just a quick action game.

    .

Yes, yes, ten times yes! I can't remember what you get in the free one but in the busy bonus pack you get awesome new mines, some new modes and best of all, the harpoon gun! If you've played AvP as the predator you know what to expect.

    Pics!

You can actually attach people to cars and drive around with them bouncing about on the sides. One of the achievements is:
Body Armour. You have to attach loads of people to your vehicle with the harpoon gun!

If you join someone's game who has the busy bonus pack, you get to use the content for that game. So if you like, at some point, I'll host a game and you can see what you're missing out on :D

I've realised I posted this thread at the wrong time, I've got the GF at my house till Wednesday night so will barely get chance to play. After that I'm up for all sorts of shenanigans!

I don't think it's completely scaleable, you but can cut out like 70% of if like by jumping from a nearby building.

Definitely love this game, something about only being able to climb single story buildings in the beginning and working your up to climbing and jumping around like Tarzan in an urban jungle. I felt more like Spiderman than I did playing, well, Spiderman.

I need to actually buy this game so I can get the DLC, so far I've just rented it twice.

As I said, try and convince a kind soul from here WITH the DLC to host a game, then you can test it out for free.

::Edit:: Ignore me, I can't read. I thought you said "Buy the DLC", not the game. And yes, buy it, it's probably my favourite 360 game up to now. Maybe not the most in depth but certainly one of the most fun.

If/when they do a sequel, I want two things:

Boats, and aircraft. That's it. That's all I need. Well, that and a larger world, preferably with a few rivers, but overall, as long as I get to fly an uber-copter into the enemy's base, hover right in front of the big baddy, and activate the chaingun o' doom, I'm a happy guy.

I think I can make Crackdown last that long. Thus far I haven't grown bored of throwing grenades under cars, getting a fellow coop agent to jump in the car and then activating the grenades. You can throw someone almost halfway across the map :)

You can also glitch the Agency Vehicle and get it to launch you the length of a city, I can't remember how now though.

Speaking of glitches and bugs though, I do occasionally have a problem whereby bosses disappear! The icon is there on the map but the boss and the other bad guys just aren't there! A quick restart fixes it though.

APB, right? That looks pretty good, too (along with The Outsider from Frontier), but a Crackdown 2 is surely in the works, and will be a kickass game.
It's quite surprising how much of this can be traced back to the Elite games.

edit: the glitches just make things funnier sometimes. Like i found a spot where, throwing cars into the water made the driver eject out vertically. Car goes in, sploosh, ROCKET CORPSE!

that, and that when you get up speed in an SUV, then spawn a ramp-truck in front of you, rather than fire you a million miles forwards and up, it propelled me downwards through the road. Every time.

that's kinda the problem with DLC, that you obviously want it to support a game post-release (keep people playing it, try and get some more sales), but it obviously takes a bit of time to develop, test and release, that you probably don't want to do more than one release for it (except in only a couple of circumstances), becuase otherwise it'll start pulling people away from your new project.

The most satisfying part of Crackdown was
throwing Wang's dead body off the top of the Shai-Gen tower after you defeat him.

My only gripe with the game was the lack of being able to pick live people up and throw them about. I guess I'm just a sadistic bastard but throwing people of bulidings is really good fun.

Well, you can melee them. If your strength isn't maxed, they should survive long enough to go sailing over the edge.

Also, I could swear I found an easier way to get into Wang's tower. It might have been his security guy instead, but I think you can go around the back and scale a couple of buildings there to reach the same balcony in that Youtube video.

I guess, but it's not the same. Picture the scene, some los meurtos punk held high over the head of your vigilante, screaming in terror in anticipation of the impending doom several hundred feet below.

    Like I said, sadistic.
