I already have the player, but I might do this anyway. I mean think about it.
$180 gets you the player, Heroes (which costs $100) and 6 HD-DVD movies (king kong plus the 5 you pick). At an average cost of $30, that's $280 worth of media.
So then sell the player for $100 on eBay and you just ended up paying $80 for Heroes and 6 movies.
Edit - orderated. Too good a of a deal to pass up.

Anyone on the fence about HD-DVD who has an HDTV should get this deal now.
fuck, even if you don't have a 360 yet, get this deal and hook it up to your PC until you get the console.
They are paying you in media to buy the player.

That's a great deal, but I still don't want to take the risk of buying a dead format/missing out on movies that come out on Blu-ray only. Damn this stupid Blu-ray/HD-DVD struggle!

The war is stupid but it is going to go on for years still.
I'm not worried about having a dead format because I'll still have the player and the movies and will be able to watch them for as long as I want. If this was a $500 player I'd be cautious but, shit, $180 add on to my 360 and an amazing amount of free hd-dvds? I just don't see a logical way of passing this up, unless you don't have a 360 or HDTV.

There will not be a dead format, just two different ones.
Eventually, if you really want HD Media, you will either end up with both... or a dual format player.
This is bar-none the cheapest you can pay to get in on the high def media craze... waiting for a winner means that you may go years before you can buy in. All analysts has reforecasted us being in the same position as we are right now this time next year, barring megaton announcements (like warner possibly going HD-DVD exclusive).
Just do it if you have the gear, it is very much worth it.

Wow that is awesome. I would get it just to watch Heroes in HD.
Plus you don't have to worry about not getting Blu-Ray exclusives because you can just import them on HDDVD.
Quite a few, at least.
some of the biggest ones have more restrictive distribution rights (like Spider-Man), but Prestige, Bridge to Tarebethia, Rambo 1-3, Underworld, and many other blu exclusive titles can be had on red through this channel.

For this price and these bonuses, who cares? You're getting $200 worth of movies in addition to the drive for $180. Even if HDDVD dies, these will still work.
Because of the bonuses, this is a zero dollar investment. If HDDVD does go tits up, you haven't really lost anything. I can see some hesitation if you were thinking of buying one of the original, $1000 players, but for a deal like this you've gotta jump on it.
And you won't miss out on Blu-ray movies since, well, you can still buy a blu-ray player eventually. You won't even have to worry about having two movie players hooked up to your tv, since your 360 is hooked up anyways.
I think we should make sub-forum of tech-deals, as we keep seeing things like this or the woot zune deal popping up.
In any case, for those on the fence, HDDVD is region free, and because of publisher's in different areas choosing different mediums, you can buy basically any movie that exists in either format, particularly easy for HDDVD as its cheaper production cost makes it more appealing for some publishers. TLDR: European HDDVDs are available of every single HD movie, including Bluray exclusives in the US.
I just read about this in the Wall Street Journal. Because HD-DVD is region free, it will play movies from any country. All have the English language track. However, exclusive Blu-Ray titles that are not available on HD-DVD in the USA, such as those by Sony Pictures, are available legally on HD-DVD in other countries and some US companies are importing them. One is http://www.xploitedcinema.com
which offers a number of Blu-Ray movies on HD-DVD.
This is a hot deal, because you don't need to buy a Blu-Ray player to get these movies in HD, saving you $$$
Remember, these are authorized releases. Everything is legit.
Question: I have neither an HDTV nor an XBOX360. I do, however, have a DVI/VGA capable monitor that outputs at 720p. Is there any way I could hook the HD-DVD player up to my monitor? If so, I am all over this.
I am definitely going to get this. I assume the xbox is a pretty good standard dvd player as well? I just payed $100 for an upscaling dvd player a few months ago before I had a 360. But if the 360 is just as good I guess I could go ahead and sell the dvd player so I won't feel so guilty about spending $180 with all the games im about to buy.

only if you have your 360 hooked up via VGA or HDMI.
It will not upscale over component as per MPAA bullshit regulations.

Ahahahaha, dear god. This could not have come at a better time. The past couple days, I've been seriously considering just going to BestBuy and picking the HD-DVD player up. And I've been thinking of getting Heroes on DVD. I actually have only seen a few episodes (I work every Monday night, god damnit), so I wanted to see the whole season.
I mean, this was too fucking perfect. I ordered this so hard I broke my mouse.

See, now that second one is actually GOOD.
Hmm, never heard of the second list, but getting Serenity + Chronicles of Riddick + Troy + Full Metal Jacket + World Trade Center is a hella great choice, probably be the movies I would buy for the thing anyways.
I assume you can use either, but you can only use one as you have to send in the barcode.

This offer is only good while supplies last (or ends on 11/4/2007, whichever comes first).
It has jumped 1,900% in Rank. I imagine they'll run out of Heroes before the 4th.
edit: nevermind, when you add to your cart it sticks it in there and applies the discount. Awesome.

goodbye moneys...
This is also out in the UK. And the player itself is cheaper now too.
And my girlfriend saw the HD-DVD in action, and not only could actually see the difference, also said I should buy one.
And the credit card company has just upped my credit limit. Bastards. :v:
And I have just finished being wallet raped by 3 years of my Masters University loan repayments. :^:

Legit, as in, legal. Jump on this.
Also, for those on the fence who are into the whole HTPC thing, http://www.ncixus.com/products/index.php?sku=26553
Drive plays all Blu-ray and HDDVD movies.

Terminator 2 French Release, which of course has the original English everything still on it, much like 99% of released outside of native country.
