I was ok sitting this HD Warz thing out until this deal hit.

This is also out in the UK. And the player itself is cheaper now too.

And my girlfriend saw the HD-DVD in action, and not only could actually see the difference, also said I should buy one. <3

And the credit card company has just upped my credit limit. Bastards. :v:

And I have just finished being wallet raped by 3 years of my Masters University loan repayments. :^:

    Hmm...

    who's doing it here?

    Posted up above, or HERE

The RRP is listed as £130, but Amazon.co.uk (listed as the only link to buy direct from the MS site itself) are actually selling the player at £110, same as Play and Gameplay.

Oh, God damn it. I bought the HDDVD player two fucking days ago. If I could find it, I'd post the comic where someone was trying to get a refund after having bought a PS2 the day before the price drop.

Goddamn, I could have had heroes, and all I've got now is this damn monkey movie.

So now all I gotta do is find someone in the UK who I can trust to send my UPC to, get this deal, and mail me my movies from overseas. Cuz those choices are so much better than what we get.

For those of you just getting into the HD-DVD game, don't bother buying HD-DVDs at B&M stores. They're always $5-10 more than what you'll pay through an e-tailer such as amazon.com or buy.com.

There's really nothing stopping either of you from returning your unit then repurchasing to take advantage of this deal. Or better yet, if you explain the situation to customer service they may just offer you the Heroes set without going through that hassle.

Well, you can still get five free games, but it seems like they took the crappy US list, removed all the good titles, and gave the offer to canada.

Canadian's one isn't too bad. I'd love to get TMNT on there.

I think I'm going to go with Aeon Flux, The Hulk, CatCF, The Frighteners and...I dunno for the last one. Darkman? I guess Troy would be the better 'hi-def' choice though.

Though, I'm not quite sure yet. I may go with Pitch Black instead of The Hulk...

I bought the drive a few months ago, and I'm still depressed at this awesome offer I can't be a part of.

It's almost to tempting to buy it ago for Heroes and another 5 free HD-DVD's.

    Way to tempting.

    I might do it. D:

I don't have a 360 yet, but I was planning to pick one up within a month. This is so terribly tempting. 6 decent movies plus Heroes along with the player and remote for $180... nice.

Edit: Wait, the drive will work on a PC too? Or am I misreading that earlier comment?

Edit 2: I'm an HD-DVD/BluRay newb. So I saw this: "Only HD DVD offers a 'combo' disk: DVD on one side allows playback on all your existing DVD players in your home or car" and was pretty shocked. Is that correct, that every HD-DVD has one side as a regular DVD that will work in any DVD player? That seems too good to be true... is that just a possible feature, or do HD-DVD discs really come that way?

Some do, but not all, yes. However Ive notice there is a slight load delay. Although it's most often very slight. I like the feature personally since I still have a use for it but I have read a lot of HD purists don't like the feature, though I've never really found out why.

    Here's the thing though ...

I was the one that originally complained to Amir (Microsoft HD DVD Insider -- a VP) over at AVS, that Canada was getting the shaft. I noted that Blu Ray offered the 5 disc deal in Canada and that this gave the PS3 a competitive advantage over the 360.

He said he'd look into it, and apparently he did.

Sadly I'm an impatient motherfucker and I bought the HD DVD add on anyways for 199 CDN.

Because those discs are $5 more than the HD only versions. This wouldn't be an issue, really, if they released two SKUs but they don't. So I have to pay an extra $5 for a feature I'll never use. Plusin some cases that means the HD DVD version is $5 more than the Blu-ray.

And, yes, the player works on PCs. I know it is plug and play with Vista.

Questions about the 360 HD-DVD player - how long are the cables that connect it to the 360? Does it need to be positioned right next to/on top of the 360, or could it be on a separate shelf altogether? Does the HD-DVD player use an IR remote (thus requiring line-of-sight) or does it use a wireless connection similar to the 360 wireless controllers?

Mine is one shelf above the 360 and could probably go one shelf higher. These shelves are tall enough to fit a 360 (with HDD) vertical. So it has a nice length to it. Even if it isn't long enough you could just grab a USB extension cable.

You control the HD DVD player through your 360, just like playing a DVD on your 360.

For the record, Heroes Season 1 on HD DVD is incredible. The show is already awesome but it looks so clean on HD DVD.

Plus, getting to rip through 3 or 4 episodes at a time is a real treat, especially if you've never seen the series before.

Did the budget shipping go UPS ground also? If so im about to complain! Also I can't even track my order at UPS, it says it cannot locate the shipment details.
