Problem running a game.

I've been watching Rome and want to play some Rome: Total War. So I dig out my copy, install it, but no go. The Rome: Total War splash screen pops up, then it pops up on the taskbar for a split second, and then nothing. I've tried multiple things, but none have been successful. My computer specs go above and beyond what is recommended, so it's not that. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice?

EDIT: After pounding the icon for around ten seconds, making it open again and again, it finally ran once. Any ideas?

Did you patch it to the most recent version before playing it?

It would still be nice to know your system specs, OS, drivers, etc.

Yes, I've patched it up and still no go. As for my specs: Windows XP, 7600GT, 1024MB 3200, 1.9ghz Athlon XP, onboard sound, and the drivers are all current. I tried rolling back to a graphics driver from a couple of years ago, but that also didn't solve the problem.

I've done further research and discovered it's a problem with a MacroVision copy protection scheme. I still have no idea how to fix it, though.
