See, xeno, if this was your first time doing something like this, I might give you the benefit of the doubt.
But I've seen you horribly bash popular games, and then when people call you a troll, you start trying to defend yourself vehemently like you are now. Except you still troll regularly.
Guys, don't feed him.
So, you're crying because I don't like some game you do. Very mature of you. Adding lots to the discussion too. At least I'm talking about the game.

Has anyone reported Xeno to the mods yet? It seems like he keeps trolling and bitching and hasn't even gotten a jailing for it.
And I hope this is true, I played a PC demo of Psychonauts on a PC that could barely run it, but from what I saw of the writing it was awesome.

See, I think the problem here is some people come to these boards because they enjoy posting and chatting with the other people here. You seem to come here so you can try to feed us your shit-sandwiches. The frustration comes from the fact that we don't need you to do our thing, but you need us to continue your shit-sandwhch delivery campaign, yet we hate the taste of your shit-sandwiches.
There is an elegant solution to this problem hidden in there somewhere.
It better be a god damn sequel. I don't want a fucking port. Okami and RE4 will both be on the Wii and those are the only two games I wanted with some extra waggle.
Bring on the original games god damnit. I would love a sequel for psychonauts.

Well played good sir. Adding a few extra words to my quote to turn it against me.
So what is this bullshit I'm supposed to be slinging? I just happen to think this game is pretty crappy and that a sequel would be a terrible idea for the company's bottom line. That's it. This plus that interview a couple months back shows that the guy wanted this game on the Gamecube and that he loves the Wii. Add the teaser image with this knowledge with a little easy waggle port money and you have yourself one decent scenario for this game appearing on the Wii.
Well played good sir. Adding a few extra words to my quote to turn it against me.
Thank you. I figured I would put in as much effort as you have into your own ranting.
So what is this bullshit I'm supposed to be slinging?
Well the first was the part where you said they wouldn't make a sequel to a 'crappy' game, referring to your subjective opinion rather than anything having to do with the financial success of the game versus its cost to produce.
Then there was the bullshit where you tried to play the bullshit 'omg dissenting opinion isn't tolerated' card, when several other people in this very thread commented on the game's shortcomings without being gutted. I wonder what was different between them and you...hmm.
Oh, then you went with the oh-so-meaningful and worthwhile 'overrated hack' line, without making any attempt whatsoever to explain what makes him a hack. Here's a hint: making games you don't like doesn't make someone a hack. And having 'flat jokes' that you 'really didn't like' doesn't make someone a hack either.
And let's not forget the part where everything else you said was bullshit because you've made it painfully obvious that you don't like anything this guy has done and whatever little discussion you've added stems directly from that bias.
I mean, I don't care personally. It should be obvious to anyone with a decent understanding of story in games and writing in general that whatever he is, he's not a hack and is deserving of all the writing kudos he's gotten and more. His games have had flaws that he and we have all acknowledged without flying into a rage. And yet, somehow the way you talk just seems to piss people off. I just thought it would be nice to clarify why they do that, in case you didn't get it. Which I'm sure you do, and just like to present your opinion in the most inflammatory, pointless way possible.

I didn't really care much for the game when I played it on the OXbox (I think I only finished the first 2 stages), but after watching the Zero Punctation video and seeing all the love that the game gets on the boards, I might give it a second chance. If it's on the Wii, even better, as I don't mind waggle that much, although I would much prefere a true sequel to a port.
Psychonauts wasn't perfect platforming. It hinged on too many collectables (though I did like the ones that had no purpose beyond giving us background on the characters), had some dodgy parts and I really hate the "point of no return" area that prevents from going back to camp after you beat the game.
That said, I enjoyed the powers, characters and adored the level design and general style. While I adore Mario, I have no doubt it'll regurgitate the same lava/water/snow levels we've seen endless times in the past. Psychonauts showed us just what places you can take platformers.
A port of the original for the Wii after all these years would be welcome, b/c it's the only way I'm ever going to play it at this point. A sequel could be better or it could suck balls. But obviously it's not gonna be a port, I mean, come on. My money is on a proposal for an unnumbered Wii sequel that some publisher has expressed an interest in.
Y'see, here's my problem Xeno. I have NO interest in, say, Skate. Personally I found it a horrible game and didn't like it in the slightest. Up pops a Skate thread... I don't instantly jump in their and yell "This game is crap! Crap! The crappest crap!"
When you see a thread about a game that you quite clearly didn't like, why hop in and trash it?
The sad thing is, if this goes to Wii, again it won't sell well. Those that want it have pretty much picked up copies on the PC/Xbox/PS2 and won't want to purchase it again. And I can't see the "casual" market really getting in to it.
It sold like other awesome games like Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia, Dreamfall, Panzer Dragoon Orta and other great games that didn't get the advertising and hence the sales they deserved.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time sold around 2.5 million copies, and both sequels came pretty close to those sales figures. The only Prince of Persia game that didn't have impressive sales figures was Prince of Persia 3D, which was, by all accounts, terrible.
The initial release of Prince of Persia was pretty bad in terms of sales though - they started a promotion where they gave away Splinter Cell when you bought Prince and that really brought sales up. I know I couldn't afford it in the sea of releases when it first hit, but when they did their free Splinter Cell deal I jumped on it.
Having just picked up the original Psychonauts for PS2, I don't have much to say about this yet.
If it is a sequel though, the obvious challenge will be smoothing out their platforming and game mechanics while retaining the same level of writing quality. That can get quite hard with some sequels.
I honestly didn't see anything wrong with the platforming mechanics. I'm currently up to the stage with the Bull and have had zero problems or issues. To be honest it's one of the most fun games I've played in a while.
So far I've just done the first section. Boot Camp, is the best description.
It handled fine. It's basic, but it works.
All I meant is that for a sequel they'd want to polish it up more. Not because it's bad as it is, but because you always want things fuckin' shiny in a sequel.
I honestly didn't see anything wrong with the platforming mechanics. I'm currently up to the stage with the Bull and have had zero problems or issues. To be honest it's one of the most fun games I've played in a while.
Wait until the last level.
You will rip out your own hair.
The Velvet Painting and Milkman levels are probably some of the most original and well designed levels I have ever seen though.
Psychonauts is one of the most imaginative games I've ever played. Each level is fresh. I'm glad it's reappearing. And here is why:
A note on Wii Ports - by Lave Station, aged 25 3/4
Lots of people bemoan the Wii for it's lazy mainstream appeal, and it abadonment of the "hardcore" gamer. They differentiate themselves from "casual" gamers and feel abadoned.
Another subset that overlaps that previous set bemoans the lazy Wii ports. And worry that developers are too cheap to make new games for the console.
But look at the Lazy Wii Ports.
Okami
Psychonauts (not confirmed, but as you can play it on the 360, PS3, and PC today it seems likely)
(and to a lesser extent: Resident Evil 4 and Prince of Persia.)
Yes, these are "lazy ports" but they are not for you. You are the geeks, the enthusiasts. Some of you make take you hobbie so seriously you think you are expected to rebuy this game. But you are not.
These are niche, cult favourites (bar RE4) they represent the games that we champion.
They are not releasing these games again for us. They are releasing them because they think they will appeal to those you call "casual." And too a great extent they are right. My non-gamer friends love Psychonauts. With the right advertising they will do very well to the new people joing our hobby. They are perfect for the Wii's audience.
So stop worrying about these cult hits being re-released, it is because the games that are "cult" in our world of geeky stuff like Halo and it's army of gritty teenage boy FPSs (don't get me wrong, I halo) are the mainstream games for a casual "audience."
It's why I believe that amazing games like Zack and Wiki languish in an ignored thread on G&T - despite a destiny of cult classic status amongst G&T'ers will do great on the Wii - because it's audience is wider than the people here. And if the current population of gamers are too cuntish to make Psychonauts a hit, then fuck you guys, I'll turn to the casuals.
TL ; DR This game isn't for you. It's for our new casual friends, and it's great that they want this kind of stuff.
Taken on its own merits, it's just terribly mediocre and very frustrating. Compared to the rest of the game, though, it's an abomination. I don't think I've seen such a dramatic dip in quality elsewhere.
So has it been confirmed that it is indeed a Wii port or is there a possibility of a Sequel/Prequel?
Personally I'd buy either one in a heartbeat, I'd love to see a game based around sending in a crack team of Psyconauts (including Raz) to places all around the world, diffusing all kinds of situations involving psycic terorrism. A prequel would be just as fantastic, playing as Ford Cruller, Sasha, and Mia years before the events of the origonal game. In one of Mia's memories there is a slideshow of a bunch of James Bonde esqe scenarios so this could be a really great game.
I'm thinking along the lines of something like Tim Shafer's Psyconauts in a parody of the 'Tom Clancy' games.
So in high school I dated this girl, awesome relationship. Anyways, her fathers name is Tim Shafer, and he is quite possibly the most conservative, religious person I have ever met. Like, you know those crazy-religious people who you're like "DAMN I understand and respect your beliefs but Christ we're not in the 1600s anymore"? Yeah, this guy was the guy who those people say "DAMN" about.
So it's always a little strange when I hear about a new wakcy-crazy twisted mind child of Tim Schafers.

I can't really see Psychonauts 2 being made until Brutal Legend comes out and hopefully make some serious bank.
So um, why has no one thought of the possibility that they may be going the episodic route to continue the series in a way that costs less money. Release it over services like Gametap, Steam, PSN, and XBLA, and there's less pressure to perform well in the marketplace while giving them a chance to make an actual sequel to the game instead of a port. I personally hate episodic releases for games, but I would put up with it for this.

Because it sees improbable that a company that has only released one game that was a massive commercial failure has the money, time, or influence to make new content based on that game. Especially when they're working on their next game which will probably make or break the company.

Then why is it any more likely that the same company would work on producing a port, putting extra time into developing additional content, or at the very least altering the game to fit into a new control scheme, for another platform when it previously failed on three previous platforms. That doesn't make a tremendous amount of sense either. In fact I would say it makes even less sense. Something episodic would be on a much smaller scale, it technically doesn't need the cost of manufacturing since they could release it on download services, and it will likely gain more sales since a lot of previous customers aren't going to repurchase it because of a change in control scheme.
you give that back, he's been looking for it everywhere.
Also, 'Lave Station'. Nice touch :^:

keep the dream alive. I nearly asked "How's X", where 'X' would be the name of another station, but i couldn't think of any. That was a sad moment.
On topic, i played the Psychonauts demo on Steam, and it was okay, but it didn't really grab me. It is one i do want to play more and support, but i'll want to hook a controller up to my pc before doing that, really. Or try to find a cheap copy for the XBox.

First of all, creating a new game means creating new content. New art and writing, new voice acting new gameplay. This has to be more time and work than porting.
Second of all, ports are often done by or with the help of third parties anyway. The publisher could just had it off.
Third, Psychonauts never came out for a Nintendo console, where it probably would have done best, so a Wii port would probably be a good idea. Especially since it may have finally gotten some decent word of mouth and press at this point.
Hey, episodic would be cool I just don't think they have the creative energy right now to release to the limited episodic game audience.
Having just picked up the original Psychonauts for PS2, I don't have much to say about this yet.

The PS2 port is notorious for fucking up the already mediocre gameplay and making it much much worse. At least that's what I've heard. I have the PS2 version too, and (aside from the humor) never really understood why people like the game so much. But as soon as you say PS2 version, you're thrown out of all discussion about the game's merits.
I might consider picking this up again if the reviews said they improved the platforming beyond "playable".

If it were going to sell a ton of units, it would have been on that particular console from simple sheer numbers of systems in households.

I don't really think the PS2 install base is a factor here. The Nintendo audience is pretty platform-friendly and hasn't been taped yet. A port would be less expensive than creating new content. So it's more probable than episodic content.
