I'm more interested in the "why in God's name did they order someone to kill the wife of one of their agents and then lie to him."

I think the idea here is that not all branches of the CIA are informed about the operations of others.

If that's the case, and a branch of the CIA separate from Shaw's ordered her killing, then who told him a Ring agent killed his wife?

The branch that killed her? No, because under this assumption they don't know that she's connected to Shaw. There's no reason to tell Shaw a lie because they have no idea that the husband of their target is a CIA agent.

The branch that commands Shaw? No, because they have no clue who did it because there's no evidence (Beckman never saw the tape). Why would they tell him that a Ring agent killed his wife when they had no evidence to the fact? It could have been a mugging gone wrong from what happened out there.

So who told him his wife was killed by a Ring agent? Unless he's just assuming she was...

Beckmen is NSA, just a FYI.

Anywho, did anyone find the "You didn't think we'd send you there alone" conversation was kinda odd? I expect Chuck to at least say "Well, yes I did think you'd send me alone, because Agent Shaw said as much. 'The interesect is designed to work alone' I believe he said."

Chuck is not working for me right now. I fought the shippers because I really enjoyed most episodes this season, but the last one almost proves them right. At this point I really wouldn't mind Sarah taking a head shot. Also, you can't bring Morgan into the fold and just magically reinvent him. My 2 season theory of good shows seems to apply to Chuck. What was good about Chuck was that he wasn't a spy and he worked at the Buy More and he was a lovable underachiever. It is not shame on the writers that they couldn't turn him into James Bond.

What's going to happen to Chuck as far as the DNI (there, we combined them) is concerned changes from week to week depending on the requirements of the plot.

Dunno about the American version of who do you think you are, but the UK original is usually pretty good. The David Baddiel special that sort of became separate from WDYTYA is really good. (essentially it became about him finding out what the Nazi's and various governments after WW2 did with all the seized property, gold etc of the Jews.)

    Mostly bloodlust.
Shaw and Sarah go to place with Sarah's red test looped over and over, reveals are had, Shaw is fine with it, Chuck saves her needlessly, I wish for someone to get trigger happy. That's the basic summary of the cold open.

Also: Thank God, hopefully we can tell some interesting stories. Now somebody reinstate Casey!

I didn't care for the fakeout at the beginning, but at least it all worked out in the end of the episode. Everything's back to normal and finally Chuck and Sarah can be happy together, for a while.

The ending may have been the most excited I've gotten about any tv show in a while
Not just Chuck & Sarah getting together, but Chuck killing Shaw and everything in between.

Looks like we're gonna have dueling Chuck/Sarah and Casey/Morgan storylines, with some appearances from old side characters. The crazy thing might be dumb, though.

The crazy thing gives us Christopher Lloyd.

    So things of note:

    1) Beckman is a highly useful character. The Atlas Shrugged line made me laugh for reasons I'm not sure of.
    2) Semi-status quo restored! Hooray!
    3) More than one character smiled! A seeming high for this season!

One of the better episodes IMO and certainly the best of the season.
Shaw actually as something more than a very poor man's Bryce Larkin, if only for 30 minutes was nice. Hopefully him falling in the river doesn't give him a chance to return.

Three week delay sucks but then we get some Bakula

You should shun and ridicule people who watch it.

    fixed.

Also great episode. I'll say, for me anyway, it made up for a lot of the dumb in previous episodes and all the terrible lame and cliche ways they kept keeping Chuck and Sarah apart.

    However I noticed
they didn't make any mention of finding or disposing of Shaws body. I suspect he's not gone.

Also with them going to Paris I was really afraid that Hanna would show back up and it would be an incredibly lame way to yet again keep Chuck and Sarah apart.

    But thank god no.

    Because he's not really.

I mean not anymore than he was previously, the biggest difference is that instead of chuck having him help with things unwittingly, he now knows why he's doing whatever.

I think Casey just made the General play along to make Morgan feel good.

"yeah yeah, you're a spy now, just don't quit your day job. It's your cover.

Also because it was getting old having his main purpose in episodes to make puppy dog faces after Chuck runs off and leaves him there not knowing the secret.
